We are usually meeting up at City Brew on the corner of King and 24th in Billings at 9am. With the latest changes to restrictions we can probably have our meetup if we maintain proper social distancing, something we are probably well-practiced at by now.

For those who would like to do a drive, we will leave about 9:30 from that City Brew and drive to Woodbine Campground near Nye. It is about 96 miles one-way. Bring a sack lunch and be prepared for some great scenery.

Russ invited us to join the local Mini club for a drive that took us past some historical points in our area. It was lots of fun and finished at the Yellowstone Vineyards for their annual Grape Stomp. There are a few pictures on the Events Page.

Unfortunately, the All Euro Car Show was cancelled due to the several days of rain we have been enduring. That's disappointing but the organizers might/maybe will try to put something together in its place.
In the meantime, last week a bunch of us drove up to Beartooth Pass and had a great time. You can check out some pictures on the Events Page.

This coming Saturday, August 16, 2014, is our meet up day, however, we have a club drive planned so we won't be at our regular location.
We will meet up at City Brew on the corner of 24th Street West and King Ave., Billings, at 8:30 am. We will depart at 8:45 am and drive to Autozone in Laurel, next to the Walmart, for fluid topping and any other last minute detailing. We will then drive to Rockvale and stop for breakfast. About one hour later we will drive to Mark's cabin in Red Lodge. After regrouping we will drive across the Beartooth Pass. After a return we will enjoy our lunch back at Mark's. We have been invited to camp overnight at Mark's. Those who wish to drive back on Saturday will do so at a time to be determined.
It should be lots of fun. If you are not a member, sign up, it's free, and it will get you on our mailing list and you will receive more detailed instructions.

This Saturday, June 7, 2014, being the first Saturday of the month, is the next scheduled meet up of the Northern Plains Vintage Foreign Car Club.
We will be doing something a bit different for this get together.
We will rendezvous at City Brew on Main Street in Billings Heights at about 8:30 am, grab a cup of coffee, and then head out on a drive by 9 am. The destination is beautiful downtown Shepherd, Montana. We will travel by this route:
North on Main Street to Highway 312
East on Highway 312 to 12 Mile Road
North on 12 Mile Road for 20 feet and then east on Chicago Road
Chicago Road east to Shepherd Road
North on Shepherd Road to Carey Road
West on Carey Road (about 1,500 feet) to 5515 Carey Road (AKA Shepherd Acton Rd)
That is the Emmanuel Lutheran Church where we have permission to park in their lot (and I didn't even have to drop Mark Donald's name)
So, why a trip to Shepherd? Well, we haven't driven there before and it's a nice distance for a shake-down drive to see what's loose and what leaks before we tackle longer drives this summer.
Another reason is that right across the street from the church is Carter's Camera Cottage, a new and used camera store that is having a swap meet on Saturday. I plan to bring some of my old equipment to unload, I mean to enrich someone's photographic hobby, and will set up a table or tarp over there. Here's the web site:

When it's time to hit the road, I suggest continuing west on Shepherd Acton Rd (it's all paved) to Highway 87 (Roundup Road) and take it south back to Billings Heights.
Something else to think about, this summer, a Dutch Vintage Volvo Club is having a drive from Panama to Alaska and will go through Montana in early August. It might be fun to meet up with them. For more information:

The weather is supposed to be "brisk" with maybe a little bit of fresh snow overnight so bring your modern rides and let's see how everyone is doing watching their fun cars hibernating.
In case you are not aware of this, Jerry Seinfeld has a web-based TV show called "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee." The premise is pretty simple. He picks up another comedian in some vintage car and they drive to a coffee shop, have coffee, and then drive back. While it can be pretty funny, it's the cars that are of interest to us. The new season has just started and in the trailer we get a glimpse or two of the car line up which includes a Volvo 1800. You can see the trailer here along with the new episode:

Winter is upon us but we've still done a few meet ups. Our December 7th one included a field trip to new club member Vern Ball's shop to see a couple of DeLoreans. One, a reconstruction to match up with the film "Back to the Future," is a real work of art and technical wizardry. Vern, the car, and his crew were featured in an article in the Billings Gazette.

This Saturday, November 2, 2013, being the first Saturday of the month, is the next scheduled meet up of the Northern Plains Vintage Foreign Car Club. We'll be getting together at 9am at City Brew on the corner of 24th Street West and King Avenue, Billings.
I just returned from a last minute road trip to central Wisconsin. While there, I picked up a travel brochure on the "Yellowstone Trail" describing where it went through Wisconsin. I was not familiar with this road and it turns out that the "trail" was the first attempt to have a transcontinental highway across the U.S. and predates the Lincoln Highway by a year.

As it turns out, a portion of the trail ran through Montana, right through Billings, and one leg still bears the name "Yellowstone Trail."

This coming Saturday, August 24th, 2013, we will be having a club drive. We will meet up at the City Brew on King and 24th in Billings at 9:00 am. We will leave by 9:15 am and drive, via Duck Creek and River Roads, to the Autozone in Laurel to meet up members who live out that way. Let's plan to leave Laurel by 10 am.
The drive route will be to head out to Joliet, just like we did a few weeks ago when we made a run to Red Lodge. Just past Joliet we will turn on Highway 421 and follow that to Columbus. We will stop in Columbus for refreshing.

A BIG APOLOGY to everyone who has tried to join up on our site in the past month or so and had difficulty doing so. Your webmaster had overlooked something when some changes were made on the site which rendered the Join Page non-functional. Think of it as reassembling an ignition system and trying to figure out why it won't start only to find you left the points out.
All is now well and if you want to join, you can do so through the Join link at the top of the page. Those who gave me their information at the All Euro Car Show, I will sign you up and send you an email with the log in information.

Tomorrow, Saturday, August 17, 2013, is the annual All Euro Car Show at Veterens Park. Our club will have our meet up there. Set up is 9-10am and the show is open from 10am - 3pm. The registration fee is $10 but the event is free to the public. The marque of the year is Jaguar and there will be at leat two of the new Type-F Jags on display and the rumor is that test drives will be available. Organizers expect there to be 100 cars there this year.

Today's Billings Gazette announces that the Vintage Lamborghini Garage is doing a northwest drive with 35-40 vintage models and will be in Billings for a mini-show in the north parking lot of the Montana Grand Holiday Inn, 5500 Midland Rd., at 5pm on Thursday, June 20th. A big shoutout to Autozone in Laurel who hosted our latest meetup. We had a fantastic time and Autozone was very generous with hats, door prizes, and lunch.
Prizes were won by Arthur, Vince, and Joel and featured a nice wash bucket with all kinds of car maintenance supplies in it. We're wondering which Triumph Arthur will be using his new R134 recharge kit on.

Winter has slipped away and we are now into "Car Season." Our meetup today was well-attended. You can find some photos on our Events Page.

Winter has finally left town and it's time to get back to turning a wrench and driving. Just a quick review of our last few meetups: We did continue to meet in February, March, and April and the turnouts have been pretty good. The weather has been generally dry but a working heater has been an advantage on a few of those Saturday monrings.
In upcoming news, our meetups in May will not be at the City Brews. On Saturday, May 4th, we will be meeting at 9:00 am at the American Legion Hall on Broadwater Ave. between 15th and 16th Streets West. Bring a few bucks for breakfast. We did this last January and those who attended can tell you that we had a great time.
On Saturday, May 18th, we will be meet at 9:00 am at Expert Tire, 3016 1st Ave. N. That's downtown Billings across from Pug Mahons. Rod, the manager of Expert Tire, will provide coffee and donuts and we'll park our cars in and around his lot for a bit of a show. Weather premitting, there will be the opportunity for a drive afterwards so gas up and pack your tools.

Thanks to Vinnie's F's suggestion, we convened our meeting at the American Legion on Broadwater and had a great visit and a fine breakfast. While the was a bit of a chill in the air, that didn't keep most of the classic cars at home.

We had our last meetup of the year today and had a pretty good turnout considering the light dusting of snow we had overnight. And we want to welcome our newest members who happened upon at City Brew, Mickey and Heidi. They are visiting from South Dakota and are members of the Blackhills Classicsportscar Club, a group that is very similar to our own. They have a Facebook page here.
After our meetup a few of us went over to Mark R's place and got a tour of his man cave. He's restoring an elderly John Deere tractor and gave us a bit of a tech session on sheetmetal straightening and welding. Thanks, Mark.

Our web site is undergoing some more upgrades. The most noticible is what you are seeing here. The front page will have the latest updates and the general information about the club will be found above, under the "About" link.
Other changes include an upgrade to the "Events" page. Most of the work happened behind the scenes with features that will make that page easier to update. Also, it now allows for the inclusion of videos in addition to the pictures.
If you look to the right, you'll see a link to "Club Drives." This will be a growing list of suggested routes to take in our area. This page features a video fly-over of the route and a printable set of driving instructions.
Another feature is the ability to print out a sign for your car. You can do this from your Member Site Administration Page after you login. You select your car and a new page will open, suitable for printing, that has the club information on it along with the year, make, and model of the selected car and your name and city. These would look great displayed on our cars when we have our meetups.

We had a great meeting at City Brew. About a dozen cars showed up including the yellow 1972 Ferrari and two Jaguar E-types. While standing around in the parking lot, someone saw an Austin-Healey speed by on King Ave. They need to join the gang.
After kicking tires we did a drive out westward, up and over Buffalo Trail Road, with a return trip on Molt Road.
