1939 - Arch Oboler's Plays presented the NBC Symphony, for the first
time, as the musical backdrop for the drama, This Lonely Heart.

8/28

1922 - The first commercial to be broadcast on radio was heard on WEAF
in New York City. Announcer [removed] Blackwell spoke about Hawthorne Court,
a group of apartment buildings in Queens, New York. The Queensboro
Realty Company, of Jackson Heights, bought what was called Toll
Broadcasting. WEAF, owned by AT&T, sold their block programming, five
one-minute programs, one a day for five days, for $50 plus long-distance
toll fees. The Queensboro Realty Company paid $100 for 10 minutes of
commercial airtime.

1938 -- The first degree given to a ventriloquist's dummy is awarded to
Charlie McCarthy--Edgar Bergen's wooden partner. The honorary degree,
"Master of Innuendo and Snappy Comeback," is presented on radio by Ralph
Dennis, the dean of the School of Speech at Northwestern University.

8/30

1951 - Screen Directors' Playhouse was heard for the final time on NBC.
  The program had featured some of the biggest stars in Hollywood.

Hi, If there is anyone on the list that still has reel to reel capability, I
have 6 reels of a series called DESTINATION FREEDOM that I no longer need. The
reels are recorded 2 track and is on good quality [removed] it could be reused.
If you will re-imburse the postage the reels are yours.  It is an interesting
series that was done in Chicago that started out with Civil Rights Stories &
then later switched to stories with a patriotic theme. Dates of the shows are:

Subject:  Lone Ranger important question

I have read many questions & answers regarding the Ranger.  I haven't
read about his "disguise". The narrator tells that LR goes to town to
investigate a crime or other reason, he is in a disguise.

 Dose he change cloths, have a fake mustache, Change his guns & bullets.
I would assume that taking off his mask would be enough of a disguise,
because know body, except Tonto and his nephew, knows what he looks like
with out the mask Isn't that enough of a disguise?

Two members of the MWOTRC (Metro Washington Old Time Radio Club) have
a television show on a local Virginia Cable station.

Last month they had me on their show for an interview. The program is
