It was his partner's (Sgt. Ben Romero) children who were discussed. Friday
was never married.

 > Would Friday be considered a detective?

I've always believed so; just because he's an LAPD employee and not in the
private sector, it doesn't make him any less a detective than, say, Philip
Marlowe. Plus, in today's world, "Detective" would be his LAPD rank, as
opposed to "Sergeant."

I've just listened to the first episode of Latitude Zero, a 1941 SF
adventure series. Unfortunately, it may be the only one I'll ever
hear. According to John Dunning's ON THE AIR, "nearly all we know about
this series comes from one surviving disc". However, this series ran from
Feb 11 to Sept27, 1941 so there could possibly be some additional episodes
out there somewhere. Does anyone here know of any? How about the scripts?
Do they survive anywhere?

 >I never heard or read that she was related to Eddie Anderson.

I don't believe she was related to Eddie Anderson. However, on the
Jack Benny Show, the character Butterfly (Mary's maid) was related to
Rochester. She was his niece.

I always thought Mary's maid was named Pauline. Mind you the shows I am
think of are from the Lucky Strike era and it's quite possible she might
have had a maid named Butterfly during the General Foods era (Jello/Grape Nuts)

Subject: First Day of Commercial Television

Russ Butler asks about programming on NBC on the first day of commercial
broadcasting, 7/1/41. Every source I see says a version of TRUTH OR
CONSEQUENCES was telecast. I believe this was a specially made for TV
version, not a simulcast of the radio show, but perhaps someone will
correct me. Does anyone know what else (if anything) was broadcast that day?

Of course, that was the beginning of COMMERCIAL television. NBC started TV
as a regular service on 4/30/39 with the opening ceremonies for the 1939-40
World's Fair. Just think, if you were one of the few people lucky enough
to have a TV set then you could have watched for 26 months before you saw
your first commercial.

Help! I'm stumped in trying to gather bio information on OTR actress Edith
Spencer who played the title role (Aunt Jenny) on "Aunt Jenny's Real Life
Stories" from 1937 to 1951. My OTR reference books barely mention her.
There's plenty of info on the program itself, but not on Edith Spencer.
Anyone have any clues as to her birth/death dates and locations, plus any
other vital stats? Besides her role as Aunt Jenny, she also had a short
stint as "Aunt Tildy" on "The Old Homestead" (Blue network-1937). Even Ron
Sayles came up empty on this one! Anybody?

Subject: Dust Jacket for CBSRMT Handbook

Hello everyone:

I'm a newcomer to the email list and am enjoying it tremendously. I do
have a request to anyone out there who might have the dust jacket for the
CBSRMT Handbook by Martin Grams Jr and Gordon Payton. I noticed that
Martin Grams Jr is a frequent visitor here. I have the book but am
missing the dust jacket.

I would greatly appreciate anyone sending me a scanned copy of the dust
jacket. Thanks!
