As I looked at this email from the OTR Digest this morning I remember when I
first signed up for The Digest back in [removed]
Sure, it was a different list then - but I enjoyed reading posts from all of
the members as well as getting introduced to Anthony Tollin and all of the
New Shadow Collections that were coming out around that time (1996-1997) as
well as the "Lost Shadow Show" ...
I remember looking forward to this Digest being in my work email each morning
and it was the FIRST thing I read each [removed]
I remember carefully reading and thoroughly enjoying Elizabeth McLeod's
wonderful essays on all topics radio from Amos and Andy to some Fibber
[removed]
I remember when the poor gentleman who ran the original list died in an auto
accident and we then had the great fortune that Charlie stepping up and has
continued this work for so many years . .
I remember the ongoing (sometimes heated debates) about the company that
started as Adventure in Cassettes, then Media Bay, and finally Radio
[removed]
I remember watching with great excitement and then a tinge of sadness as
digital and MP3 grew and overtook this hobby of ours. Sure, greater access to
content that I never new existed, but gone was the thrill of the cassette
hunting expeditions for new material . . . .
I remember reading about all of the events in detail at the various annual
OTR [removed]
I remember all of the incredibly intelligent OTR historians that congregate
on this list over the years . . .
I remember getting introduced to the print periodical "The OTR Digest" and
getting my article pushed about when I actually met Dennis Day (at 16 years
old) . . . .
I remember reconnecting with one of my favorite OTR folks and dealer, Bob
Burnham at BRC Productions . . . .
I remember when I used to muse that the edition number of the OTR Digest
matched the number of days in the year (daily deliveries) . . . .
I remember trading tapes with a gentleman named FiremanOTR who found some
great Phil Harris Airchecks for me . . . .
I remember getting the line on the trulls great books to get like "The
Encyclopedia of Old Time Radio" as well great reads on Jack Benny, and some
Ron Lackman books, Leonard Maltin's books and the Shadow Scrapbook . . . and
the Fibber McGee books!
I remember two folks who are about my age and started listening to OTR in
their teens as also (in the 1980s) and we bonded over being slightly out of
step (in a good way) with our peers and what our peers were missing by not
listening to OTR . . .
I remember when my grandfather gave me his old radio fro the 1950s and the
folks on this list helping me date it and come up with its history . . .
I remember people still commenting on my old radio in my office and asking me
what it is . . . .
I remember loving being part of this OTR community . . . . . .still do.
Season's best to all of you and thank you for being part of this Digest - I
still love it.
