Subject: Chico Marx' Orchestra

I know that there was five Marx Brothers and the most famous of them was
Groucho, Chico, Zeppo, and later another one came along and joined the group,
Harpo. There also was a fifth that never joined the group and if he did
it was only in the very first movie.
I was just going through an old issue of a magazine, (Movie-Radio Guide),
which talked about the movies of the time and also talked about the radio
programs that they had then.
I also noticed that there was one program that stared Chico Marx and he had
his own orchestra, the Chico Marx Orchestra.
That is new to me and I was wondering if there is anyone out there that
knows anything about Chico and his orchestra.

Subject: Salinger on radio

With the recent news of the passing of the great novelist Jerome David
Salinger, I was wondering if Salinger ever graced the OTR airwaves. I have
long been quite a fan of Salinger's oeuvre so much so that I once adopted
"Holden" as my middle name.

There was, of course, the "Lux Radio Theatre" production of the film "My
Foolish Heart," which was based on one of Salinger's New Yorker short stories
"Uncle Wiggily in Connecticut." Having seen the movie version, I can see --
given the liberties the screenplay took with the original short story -- just
why Salinger folded up tent and never again allowed his works to be adaptaed
in Hollywood.

Since "The Catcher in the Rye" was considered quite controversial in the
early 1950s, I was wondering if there were any OTR references to it. Was it
ever discussed on book discussion forums and other type of "egghead" shows?
Did Chester A. Riley have a fit when he found a copy of "Catcher" in Junior's
room?

Students!

Thanks in advance,

Derek Holden Tague (which serendipitously is an anagram of "a golden ether
duke")
