Subject: New Broadcast Log Available - The Line Up
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: from multipart/alternative
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: Alternative section used was text/plain
My series broadcast log on THE LINE UP is the result of extensive research
carried out over a period of several years. The research on this series
included identifying, acquiring, viewing and/or listening to a variety of
Primary Sources (scripts and network documents, broadcasts, and interviews)
and many Secondary Sources (newspaper daily radio programming listings and
notes, trade magazine articles, and books on Old-Time Radio.) The broadcast
log contains much new information about the series and corrects much
misinformation that has been in the Old-Time Radio community for many years.
I identified, acquired, and listened to all 73 episodes of the series that are
currently available. I also acquired and listened to interviews of one of the
series' primary writers and others who participated in the series.
In
mid-March, 2013, I traveled to an archive where those printed Primary Sources
for THE LINE UP reside. This archive only allows on-site access to their
collections and usually does not allow photocopying of scripts and other
documents. I spent five days at the archive looking at all of the scripts and
extensive CBS and other documentation (approximately 5,000 pages) for THE LINE
UP that reside there.
To the best of my knowledge, I am the only researcher
who has actually gone to the archive and actually viewed the scripts and CBS
and other documentation on THE LINE UP.
The log for THE LINE UP can be found
in Adobe Acrobat PDF format at:

Radio Drama Variety and Comedy. This article includes much new information on
THE LINE UP that will be incorporated at a later date into my broadcast log.

Just watched the 1945 version of Brewster's Millions on Netflix. Eddie
Anderson's character is named Jackson. Is that a nod to Jack Benny,
Anderson's longtime radio employer, anyone know?

Subject: Honoring Art Hellyer on Those Were the Days
This Saturday, "Those Were the Days" celebrates the 90th birthday of a
legendary Chicago broadcaster, the great Art Hellyer, as we devote our show
to "Art Hellyer and the Other Madmen of Radio." We'll present a conversation
we recorded with Art Hellyer at his home last year, and we'll hear some
samples of the groundbreaking (for the time) wackiness that made him one of
the city's top-rated personalities. We'll also hear from some other radio
madmen, Bob Arbogast and Bob and Ray.
"Those Were the Days" airs every Saturday from 1-5 pm CST on WDCB ([removed] FM in
Chicagoland, [removed] everywhere).

Subject: MANC hotel
The hotel where MANC (the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention) is held has 450
rooms reserved each night at a discounted convention rate. They were sold out
as early as May. Some people have been able to find ways and means of getting
the convention rate through third party venues. The other day the hotel
opened up an additional 50 rooms at the discounted convention rate --
something they did not have to do. If you have not booked your room yet, use
the enclosed link to book your room now. They are available first come, first
serve.
If you have made a reservation and it is more than the convention rate, book
your room through this link and then cancel your old reservation. If you made
a reservation through a third party venue (which means you did not call the
hotel direct), let me know as we get credited for every room booked as a
result of the convention and unless they specified the convention rate, the
hotel does not know you came because of the event.
We have more old-time radio events this year than ever before. There will be
three radio recreations (one is a recreation of the only "lost" NERO WOLFE
episode with Sydney Greenstreet). Jack French of the Metro Washington OTR
Club will discuss "The FBI on the Airwaves," John Abbott will discuss YOURS
TRULY, JOHNNY DOLLAR, Michael Hayde will talk about Hank Williams on radio,
Brace Beemer's grandson will present exclusive footage from his up-coming
documentary about THE LONE RANGER, Sally Stephens will have a fascinating
slide show presentation about Gracie Allen ad her 1940 run for President, and
so on. [removed]
