Subject: Father Knows Best and Rhoda Williams

Joe Mackey's reference to Father Knows Best in the August 20^th Digest
reminded me of an event that happened to me a number of years ago.

I received an email from a friend of Rhoda Williams, the actress who
played Betty, Robert Young's oldest daughter on the popular NBC radio
[removed] I recall, Ms Williams' health was poor, and either the author
of the email or Ms Williams' husband, David Van Meter, had stumbled
across my collection of episodes from the series on the Internet and
wondered if I might provide copies of the shows to [removed] course I was
thrilled to do so. If I recall accurately, while unable to speak with Ms
Williams, I was able to speak with her husband and mailed him my
collection.

Rhoda Williams enjoyed a career long after radio that included
television and motion pictures. You can find a very nice biography of
her on [removed][removed]

Martin Grams has a nice tribute to the late Rosemary Rice titled "I Remember
Rosemary Rice" at his website for his Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention

My pal Doug Douglass sent me a link to her obituary in the "Stamford (CT)

Ms. Rice was a classy and gracious lady and she will be sorely missed.

Subject: OTR App for Android

In response to Don Fisher's comments about the Kindle Fire app, I too have
used this, both on my Kindle Fire and on my Android Phone, and I love it.
As far as I can tell, it streams them from the internet. I tried playing an
episode and changed my phone to "airplane mode" and it stopped playing after
a few seconds. I don't think you need to have a wi-fi connection, but if
you are like me, and have a limited plan, use wi-fi when using this app.

I love using it when I'm not near my computer or don't have my mp3 player
handy. It has 70 show titles and over 10,000 shows (according to the
description on Amazon). I'd also recommend it.

Ron Vickery (apparently not in lurker mode today either)

Subject: SUMMERSTIME

Dear Radio Enthusiasts:
SUMMERSTIME is going to be a great success thanks to the bubbly personality
of Katie and her genuine love for the art form and for Charlie's loving
and far-seeing vision to create something like this so folks can hear for
themselves the wonder and magic of radio. Especially as performed by a
father-daughter team.
I just received a very nice package with a warm and beautiful card from
Katie and nice words from Charlie.
Thanks guys!!
I was honored to be asked to participate and state right now that should
more work from me be required I would be more than glad to help.
You know how to get in touch.
Now, to some other good news.
The sadness that was going to be October for me with the lack of FOTR
making its appearance for the first time in many years has been assuaged
somewhat by the creation of a new group called NYOTR who have asked me to
participate in their maiden voyage in mid October.
Look them up and make plans because this is also going to take place at
the same hotel in Newark with many of the same people and some surprises
[removed] will make my October a very happy one.
Always a happy month for me especially as it starts with my birthday on
the first and ends on Halloween with the World Series, OTR and the birthday
of my sweetheart Gina in between.
Wonders will never cease.
It's up to us to discover them.
See ya in Newark.
Check the dates at [removed].
Bye for now.
