A weekly [removed]

For the best in OTR Chat, join IRC (Internet Relay Chat), StarLink-IRC
Network, the channel name is #OldRadio. We meet Thursdays at 8 PM Eastern
and go on, and on! The oldest OTR Chat Channel, it has been in existence
over nine years, same time, same channel! Started by Lois Culver, widow
of actor Howard Culver, this is the place to be on Thursday night for
real-time OTR talk!

Our "regulars" include OTR actors, soundmen, collectors, listeners, and
others interested in enjoying OTR from points all over the world. Discussions
range from favorite shows to almost anything else under the sun (sometimes
it's hard for us to stay on-topic)...but even if it isn't always focused,
it's always a good time!

For more info, contact charlie@[removed]. We hope to see you there, this
week and every week!

Subject: 21st Precinct Radio Program

I just found, while looking over production paperwork from Warner Brothers
Studios, that in May and June of 1962, script writer Stanley Niss
successfully sold Warners two of his radio scripts from 21ST PRECINCT. Seems
because the radio show was no longer on the air, he was selling the rights to
"some" of his radio scripts to the movie studios -- under certain conditions.
For this particular case, Warners bought two radio scripts. "The Mover"
broadcast October 20, 1953 and "The Foundling" broadcast July 7, 1954. The
terms of the contract was for Niss to combine both scripts into one, for the
basis of "Nine To Five," intended for a new television series of the same
name. They even produced a sales film version of the same name. Ultimately,
they could not sell the pilot film so they recycled the television script
(changing the names of fictional characters) and used it for a fifth season
episode of 77 SUNSET STRIP (Initial telecast: March 8, 1963).

Reason I'm bringing this up is because I would like to listen to these two
radio broadcasts, if recordings exists. If anyone has any of these
recordings, please let me know.

Subject: Re: Favorite OTR Streams

Tom Greenli asks about OTR on his new iPod Touch. It's gotten to the point
where there's so much OTR out there that it's like having about a dozen radio
stations to choose from. If you don't like what they're playing on one,
change the "station."

On my iTouch, I have a couple of apps. One is called OTR Streamer where you
can pick out a show from many different categories to listen to whenever you
want, kind of like having Archive OTR at your fingertips (although not nearly
as extensive). If only they'd stop putting Escape in the Mystery category
rather than Adventure. Go figure. You can also download shows for listening
to later when you're not near a wi/fi source.

Another is TuneIn Radio that lets you listen to thousands of radio streams
from around the world. The OTR streams I have as presets are
AM 600 Conyers GA,
AM 1710 Antioch,
OTR Now Radio,
MPIR (Mystery Play Internet Radio),
Brando Classic Old-Time Radio,
Alltime Oldies Radio Theater,
and Old Time Radio Fan.

Then there is the app Stitcher, which is available for iPods, Androids,
Blackberry and who knows what else. Some of my "Favorites" (even though I
haven't had the time to listen to all of them) are
Relic Radio
Old Time Radio Thrillers
" " " Scifi
" " " Comedy
" " " Suspense
" " " Mysteries
" " " Detectives
Botar's Old Time Radio
and Tuned to Yesterday

I'm sure this is by no means exhaustive. But it does mean that it's possible
to plug in to OTR 24/7 and probably not hear a repeat for months (years?).

Happy listening and come up for air once in a while.

Alan

In Digest #66, Tom asked:

Which are your favorites? I'd like to make sure I'm listening to
the best OTR that this technology has to offer

Allow me to suggest [removed], on which I'm an occasional guest.
Not only do they stream OTR shows throughout the day, but they also feature
live programming in the evenings. Live shows might include authors of
nostalgia-related books, guests with particular areas of interest, or just
shows with a particular theme. Listeners can interact with the live show
via Facebook, email, or by phone.

They're available through Live365, iTunes radio, etc. You can go to
[removed] for more information.

And as a special plug, let me remind Tom to tune in Friday night at 9:00
EST, where I'll be discussing Gunsmoke's Chester, and we'll be listening to
episodes which show sides of Chester not normally heard on the show.
