Subject: Sound Level Meters
I have a contact who is looking for a vintage sound level meter. These are
the kinds of devices that were used to measure applause levels on shows like
"Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts" and "Queen for a Day".
Does anyone have any idea where he might be able to find one?
Thanks.

Our local theater group is going to get to do TWO OTR performances this year
-- and one will be held on Sunday afternoon so we can attract some senior
citizens groups. We're excited. One will be the weekend of Valentine's Day, so
we'd like to do a love story. Can anyone recommend a good one? I wanted to do
one from Mr. First Nighter, but I think the effects are probably too much for
our capable but one-man effects crew to handle.
Would love to hear any suggestions. I usually listen to the scary stuff, so
I'm having trouble tracking lovey stuff down.
Offlist replies are welcome, unless you want to share with the group.
Thanks.
Paul Adomites

Subject: Jack Benny time slot
I recently watched a part of the old movie "paper Moon", in one scene
Tatum Oneal is lying in bed listening to Jack Benny. I thought this
was strange, why would a teen age girl go to bed at 7:00. Later I
thought that was east cost time, in the central time zone it would be
8:00 or later. When was the Benny show on in Kansas or wherever the
movie was set? Another movie question about the Benny show, in a Sci
Fi movie about a modern aircraft carrier being transported back in
time to Dec. 6, 1941 they are listening to a Benny show ( about
Carmical) I always thought that was a big mistake, but later
thinking was they didn't have live broadcasting of network show in
Hawaii. So when would the Benny show have been on in Honolulu.
Thanks

Forwarded for Bernard:
I must have missed the original posting, because I do not understand what
the member meant with "German Radio Day". Of course, German recordings
exist but they are not available to the common public if you are not in the
educational sector. There are excerpts of speeches etc available but
selected. Nazi material has been forbidden in Germany since the very first
days of German occupation in 1945 and it is against the law if you possess
such things, even today.
In case you are interested in the history of such recordings I'd like to
invite you to go to my homepage [removed] <[removed];
where you can find information on various German audio related subjects.

Here is a web site dedicated to Moe Keale. I remember him when he was a
regular during the last season of Hawaii Five O.

Wow! I remember READING that story, ages and ages ago!!! In fact
I believe our public library probably still has it -- "Why The

It's such a shame that Ted Davenport has decided to close up shop with his
"Radio Memories" business. For many years, Ted, his pal Tom Monroe, and their
traveling companions Bob Burchett and Harold Zeigler (who died this past
April) were front-and-centre in the FOTR and Cincinnati dealers' rooms with
their multiple tables. One could always be assured of high quality and
professional packaging with the RM product.
Ted and Tom always gave of themselves, and generously donated their wares
towards various OTR convention raffles and auctions. I saw this first-hand
because for many years,, I was the guy who pulled the winning tickets for the
annual FOTR raffles held during the banquets. It all started several ago. I
bought the requisite three raffle tickets (one for two dollars; three for five
dollars). On the first night, I won two prizes off of three tickets. I felt
that karmically and cosmologically I was not destined to win anything else
the balance of the convention and I really didn't want to spend any more money
on raffle tickets by the second night. When Jay Hickerson asked for a
volunteer to rip tickets and draw the winners, I stepped up, figuring I'd be
exempt from purchasing any more tickets in order to prevent any conflicts of
interest. The gig last about twelve years.
One year, I was seated up front at Table #1 along with Edward and Nana Clute,
Mary Lou Wallace, Dave Zwengler, and William Nadel. When I had gotten back, I
had seen our table had won a "table prize," [removed], one item for each person
seated at th e table. Said prize were ten "OTR sampler" packs from the Radio
Memories table. Each bookcase package contained six tapes of various OTR
shows--a perfect device for introducing non-OTR friends to the hobby. I had
noticed that there was a "Sherlock Holmes" tape in my sampler and I asked the
esteemed Sherlockian/Baker Street Irregular Bill Nadel if he had anything to
trade for it. Bill offered me a "Green Hornet," and the next thing you know,
everybody at the table was trading their individual sampler tapes with one
another around and across the table. With one [removed]
It seems that each 6-pack had at least one "Lum 'n' Abner" tape therein. If
there had been a gung-ho "Lum 'n' Abner" fan at Table #1, he would've cleaned
up, but, alas!, L'n'A had no currency that day and each respective banqueteer
was (for lack of a better word) "stuck" with his or her own LnA's.
[OK, OK. I know I have just ticked off and alienated all the "Lum 'n' Abner"
fans out there in the ether, but, to me LnA is an acquired taste. I just can't
listen to more than two of them in a row. I've tried! Although I do appreciate
character-driven comedy, I have just never warmed up to the going-on at the
Jot 'Em Down Store. I do dig "vic 'n' Sade" immensely.]
Back to Ted. I know I speak for the entire OTR community when I say that we're
all going to miss the ubiquity of the multiple Radio Memories tables at the
entrance to OTR convention dealers' rooms. For many decades, Ted, you've been
a archivist extraordinaire. The programmes you've uncovered, the hard work
you've done, and the appreciation you've gained in OTR collector circles will
assure your place in the OTR firmament. We all wish you the best of health and
overwhelming success in your future [removed]'ve earned it
Godspeed and Merry Christmas, Ted Davenport and Tom Monroe!
