Sprechen Sie Deutsche?

I have a copy of a documentary aired two years ago in Germany about how US
radio helped the US war effort (the theme of WORDS AT WAR; I was interviewed
for the broadcast). If anybody would like to hear it, contact me off line.
You must, of course, understand German!

During what years did the quiz show "Go For The House" broadcast on ABC?
Thanks.

Subject: Richard Diamond's Writings

I was just listening to an episode of The Saint, stariing Vincent Price
called "No Hiding Place". I noticed while listening to the credits at the
end that the script for the show was written Dick Powell aka Richard
Diamond. Did Dick Powell do other writing as well?

Hello,

I was listening to the episode, "Ann Tuttle Back in Town," from January 7,
1948, and Gildy is writing a letter to Ann Tuttle and signs it, "Yours Truly,
Throckmorten P. Gildersleeve, Esquire." Was he at one time trained as a
lawyer, or back then did "Esquire" have some other meaning?

Thank you.

Subject: one meatball, the song

a poster earlier mentioned the song as being from spike jones. i dont
remember spike doing it, but it seems to me that louie pastor as well as the
andrew
sisters had big hits of one meatball. i think the andrews also recorded it
with
bing crosby.

Now I know that it is possible that Louis Prima recorded the song and that
Tony Pastor may have recorded it, and I know that the Andrews Sisters
recorded it, but Louis Pasteur(Pastor)? What label did he record for?

Actually in those days whenever someone had a hit, it was covered by many
other artists. At least one artist per label. I remember that it was also
featured in a movie, the name of which I don't remember, but I'm sure that it
was a B movie. The other thing that I remember about the song, from somewhere
in the past, is that it was really a very old song written in the 1890's!
Anyone else remember anything about that?

George Aust

Yes, I've seen "The Night That Panicked America" a couple of times over the
years. It's a very entertaining telemovie -- a nice peek at the world of
Old Time Radio for the mass audience. It would be nice if they released it
on DVD for the modern audience.

Subject: Did Anyone Out There Win Any Of These Prizes?
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: from multipart/alternative

Hello,

In the series of episodes where Gildy is trying to name the baby he finds in
his car (starting in September 1948), Parkay is offering a contest where
listeners send in potential names. They must send in the flap from the Parkay
margarine container and the possible name, and in exchange, they were offered
the chance to win one of the following prizes:

20 Ford Sedans
200 General Electric Radios
100 Corey Coffeemakers
100 Toastmaster toasters
plus cash prizes, plus a $1000 bonus to the listener whose name is selected.

It sure seems like a very generous giveaway. 20 cars alone is worth quite a
bit of money. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone out there remembers this prize
giveaway, if anyone sent in a name (do you remember the name you submitted?),
and most importantly, did anyone out there win a prize?

Thanks.
