CLASSICS & CURIOS
"Echoes of Songs and Laughter"
Episode 16
Now enjoy a collector Amos & Andy Show from 1953 celebrating 25 years
on the air by featuring the life story of creators Freeman Gosden and
Charles Correll with special guests Edward R. Morrow, Jack Benny, and
longtime announcer Bill Hay. Also, here is a rare recording of "We
wonder what Amos & Andy will do tomorrow night." For some of the best
and most fascinating background and stories on Gosden and Correll, check
out broadcast historian Elizabeth McLeod's work online and in bookstores.
Amos & Andy Show Music Hall from 1955 -- which aired evenings for a
half hour with their comic conversations and musical recordings, often
with guest stars such as, on this show, Frank Sinatra. It certainly
wasn't vintage Amos & Andy, and yet it was wonderful to hear them doing
their thing, still giving us more smiles and memories -- as well as some
good music. So, here are Amos & Andy and some top tunes of the time: a
happy combination.

Subject: Academy Awards on radio
Hi. Just a quick note to tell you about an essay I finished last week. It
is my unofficial history of the motion picture Academy Awards on radio,
covering the years from 1930 to 1968. A friend of mine read it and he took
it to movie historian and film critic Leonard Maltin. Mr. Maltin liked it
so much, he has a link to my article on his Movie Crazy website, along with
a nice introduction about me and the essay. I sent it to some of my
friends last week. I thought I should also tell the readers of the OTR
Digest about it. So, if anybody is interested in reading about this topic,
you can check it out here:
