    ADMINISTRIVIA:

The data center housing our server (you remember, the one we went
with for RELIABILITY?) has been on-and-off the Internet for the
past 24-hours. There is nothing wrong with the server, it is the
main connection to the Internet that is flaky. If you received
bounce messages for mail sent to the Digest, please resend.

I am currently setting up the backup server to accept mail and
    web connections in the event the conneciton goes down yet again;
until I speak with the company's representatives (I've been
trying since yesterday morning with no luck), I don't have any
timetable for the problem to be finally and properly corrected.

Subject: Hi, Matt

The " Hi Matt" was done by John Dehner in an attempt to get William Conrad
to muff a line. John Dehner would do this some times when Matt was riding
out in the middle of nowhere. Conrad, as far as he was concerned, never
missed a beat and replied to the impromptu "Hi Matt" with the brief "Hi
John" and continued doing what ever the script said at the time.

A researcher friend of mine is seeking copies or photocopies of the actor biography
sections of the National Radio Artists Directory (particularly any volumes between 1945-
50). He'll gladly pay for your time, copies and postage. If you can help, please email me
off list. Thanks much.

Dick Backus asks,

Can anyone suggest where I might find a program on which "All I Want
for Christmas is My Two Front Teeth" was performed.

I believe that was a Spike Jones song, so one of his shows might have it.

I was at OfficeMax this morning and they were selling 100 slim CD jewell cases
for $[removed] The rebate for these is $[removed] Free is a pretty good price.

Wish I would have known that last [removed]

I went to the Microcenter web site ([removed]) to buy some
slimline CD jewel cases & found the Fellows brand (100 pack) on sale for
$[removed] for the black ones. Site has an in store pickup option (on the
checkout page) which I have used before since I have a store in my city &
usually wait for the email (next day usually) then go get it at the store.
This time however I just drove over there & bought the package off the
shelf. Not bad when other 100 packs are $16 to $24 on the site & in the
store. In store pickup sure beats time & shipping when the store is in your
city!

In a message dated 12/10/2003 Ian Grieve quized:

Why do archives store for future generations
but restrict access?
Greg Dyke says the BBC plans make as much of its radio and TV archive
available on the Internet as it can, considering restrictions and copywrite
issues.
The cost will be nothing for non-commercial use. Access will be free. No
details yet. The announcement was last August.

Subject: That Gunsmoke Saloon question again.

I notice a question suggesting that Mr. Bartell would solve. I guess it
is time again that I ask about that mysterious saloon referred to in the
early Gunsmoke episodes. I have no idea how to spell it nor any idea as
to what might have been the origin of the name. It SOUNDS something like
"Alafaganza."
