Subject: Travler radio info
I recently acquired an antique radio and I am trying to research it.
There is no model number on it, but the brand name Trav-ler is on the
front dial. It is a cathedral style with a flat top.
Can anyone recommend a web resource that might be able to give me
further information on this radio? One site I visited had it listed
as a Model 53, but I'm not sure that's it.
Thanks,
Mike

I've read a bit about a series with Joseph Curtin and Barbara Britton

Are there any eps of this program available and are they of any note?
Is this program as good as "The Thin Man" and others with crimesolving
couples, or better? Possibly worse?
Kenneth, if you'll reach up on your bookshelf and grab your copy of
"Private Eyelashes: Radio's Lady Detectives" (which all Digesters have
heard you quote many times) and turn to my chapter "The Better Halves"
beginning on page 53, all your questions will be [removed] much

Subject: A little bit about Joseph Curtain
Joseph Curtain had a long career in radio, not just on the Mr and Mrs
North show, but he did many others radio shows. A good example is his
starring role on the X Minus One radio show called "The Parade." Did
a wonderful acting job on that.
Curtain had three children; two daughters and a son. One of the
daughters I knew quite well. Valerie Curtain -- who went on to star
in the tv version of 9 to 5, based on the movie of the same name. (I
wish I knew where Valerie is now)
Years ago, she told me that when TV came in, her father laughed it
off, saying it would never last and that radio was here to stay.
Of course, we know the outcome of all that, don't we. What is not
known is that Joseph Curtain was offered the role of playing Mr.
North in the television series that was planned --- and he turned it
down! Valerie told me that, years later, he always regretted not
taking up the offer because he genuinely believed that radio was here
to stay. He did not enter television but instead ended up being an
insurance broker and agent. She said it broke his heart. Sad ending
to a wonderful career in radio.

I seem to recall this program originated in Dallas, or Ft. Worth. I
used to listen to it fairly regularly in the 1940's era. Does anyone
recall it, or have information about it?
