Circuit City has the Rio Sonic Blue portable CD/MP3 player (SP150) on
sale thru Saturday (Oct 11) for $[removed] with a $30 rebate; final price

I think I've read good things about this machine on this board?
Well, certainly not from me. I have one of those machines and think it
is the worst one they have put out. It doesn't have the usual firmware
so you can't upgrade it, it doesn't have an adapter and I wouldn't pay
even $29 for it. I presently am using an iRiver player which was $59 and
is a much better machine, and much more worth the money than the Riovolt
SP150. However, that is just my rather biassed opinion. Kurt

I was listening to My Friend Irma Christmas show called "Irma's Christmas
Party" dated 12/22/53 I believe, and I notice that some of the main characters
such as Al, and Jane were not heard. I heard names such as Joe who is Irma's
boyfriend and Kay who is Irma's roommate on this episode. In the episode
Richard who was Jane's love interest is now Kay's. Can somebody tell me when
these
two characters were introduce to My Friend Irma.

I see Heritage Radio Theatre is streaming GREAT CAESAR'S GHOST, 3-8-46
an Audition Show.
This was Perry White's fav expression on the classic Superman TV series.
I've often wondered at the origin of this, was it from OTR?

danhughes@[removed] called our attention to a sale on
the Rio Sonic Blue portable CD/MP3 player (SP150) at
Circuit City, ending with "I think I've read good
things about this machine on this board?"
You've read many good things about the original Rio
Volt (SP100), but whatever you do, don't buy the
SP150!! Not for OTR, at least. It does not have a true
resume feature, which means that if you stop in the
middle of a show, when you turn the player back on
again it will start at the beginning of the episode.
Also, the firmware on that particular unit is not
upgradeable. If you're looking for a portable cd
player that's great for OTR, buy the iRiver iMP-150,
which is basically the same as the original Rio under
the hood. Amazon is currently selling this for sixty
bucks with free shipping. (I have no affiliation with
any of these companies, I just hate to see somebody
buy a Rio Volt 150 and return it three days later, as
I did this spring.)

Ruk77@[removed] asked:
I was searching the net about orson welles and one sight mentioned a radio
drama called Socony Vacuum. Does anyone know about this series? was it a
radio drama? I have not seen any of these radio programs. Do any still exist?
Sounds like someone put a little inaccuracy on the web. I doubt "Socony
Vacuum" was the title of a radio drama. Socony was the name of a company
that sold oil and automotive parts, and is best known publicly as MOBIL OIL.
Mobil sponsored numerous radio programs including a form of Screen Guild
Theater, Information Please, and We, The People. What they probably meant
to say was that Welles was on a program sponsored by Mobil Oil.

I have seen Larry Dobkin in quite a few series over the years as a guest
star. One of the most memorable for me is from a 1971 episode of Mission
Impossible. This is where
Dobkin plays a Colonel in apartheid Africa who is turned completely ,
utterly and inexplicably black by Jim Phelps and the magic tricks of the
IMF. Dobkin's performance
made this scenario completely believable.
I had a chance to ask Dobkin about this show at a REPS OTR convention and he
told me
"that's certainly not one I am inclined to forget ! "

I found this entry at the website for the Metropolitan Washington Old Time
Radio Club:
"<[removed];Radio Spirits Inc. under the title of
"World's Greatest Old Time Radio Shows", has organized the equivalent of a
radio "book club". It's a system where you get some to start, and then they
send you more unless you instruct them not to. Their initial offering is
fairly generous; when you purchase your first two CDs, they give you two
more free, plus a sturdy binder to keep them in. You can phone them at
800-606-0709 during normal business hours (EDT) or write them for info at

Hope this helps,

gone). Can anyone else help? Thanks

Ron Sayles recently uttered:

often referred to as the "Bible" of Olde Tyme Radio." If that be the case then
maybe we can say that Dunning"s books are the Old Testament and Cox"s books
are the New Testament.
To which Barbara Watkins replied:
Back in the 1980s we used to say that The Big Broadcast was the Old

What books are considered Apocryphal?
Where does one place Jay Hickerson's 'Ultimate History of Network Radio
Programming and all Circulating Shows [including post-1961 programs]' and
works by Martin Grams Jr. Perhaps the equivalent of 'Numbers' or 'Acts' or
(in the case of post-1961) 'Revelation'??
Or perhaps they are different interpretations? Cox is NKJV and Dunning is
KJV? Omart? Tolin? Schwartz & Reinehr? Goldin?
Barabas must be Psalms, it's sooo thick.
And then I hear [removed] "In the [removed]"
