Joe Mackey posted:

5/6 1937 A student of history, a broadcaster or anyone interested in
news coverage, will remember this day and the words of NBC's Herbert
Morrison. "Oh, the humanities!"

I never liked that course either.

I'm pretty sure he said "Humanity" but let's see next year.

Subject: Art Linkletter's House Party?

I was going to do my OTR show this week using an episode of Art Linkletter's
House Party, but after writing up my intro, I couldn't find any episodes
anywhere!

The show was on the air daily all through the 1950's, and there aren't any
copies of it anywhere?? Totally bizarre.

Warren Jones wants to know about this 50s radio quiz [removed] would
like to hear an audio copy.

This Mutual Quiz show was not in the 50s. It aired from September 1944 to
December 1948 as a Mutual Network show, although it had been broadcast
regionally west coast only on Don Lee Network since 1943. It was a half hour
show evening once a week, usually on Thursday, Saturday or Sunday. Dud
Williamson was the [removed] for most of the run. Knox Company sponsored it for
the first two years; thereafter it was sustaining.

It's musical theme song was "I Know That You Know." Only one audio copy
exists, but I'm not sure which dealers might have it.

In his 1991 book, "Quiz Craze" Thomas L. DeLong describes the show as one
that "challenged studio audience members in Hollywood to identify songs and
then sing the lyrics. Cash prizes of $ 5 to $ 50 went to contestants and to
those mailing in questions."
