Subject: Last Debut Show
This is intended as more than a mere trivia question. I have developed the
parameters for a project that I will unveil some time next year (and, if
everything falls together properly, announce on the list later this
year). However, to make sure those parameters include everything I want
included from OTR, can some one tell me when the last mystery/detective
show *debuted* on radio? That is, I know Johnny Dollar was just about the
last OTR show in this genre to go off the air in 1962, but when was the
last debut show of a mystery/detective show?
I definitely am *not* interested in anything that would have debuted after
YTJD left the air.
Many thanks,
Bill Harker, who could probably spend hours tracking this down but figures
someone on the list knows off the top of his/her head.

Subject: Its curtains for you, ya mug
Derek Tague wondered --
Erwin instructs a stage-hand to "draw the curtains." At this
point, a curtain partitioning the small in-studio audience (about two
dozen persons) was drawn so that Erwin could attempt to pull off this
ruse. Did radio studios actually employ the use of curtains with their
live audiences?
I'll leave the offical reply to our 1930's expert Elizabeth, but I
would imagine its a bit of stage play as on Jack Benny where he would be
spoofing some popular film and when introducing say "And now on with our
play. Curtain. Action!"
Joe

The Freberg show only lasted a short time and that newfangled
contraption, television, was blamed for the show's quick demise.
As I recall, it lasted the summer. In the fall, Jack Benny reruns returned
to that time slot.

Subject: Diskwasher Woes
Some time ago, I researched recommendations for an LP cleaning solution and
I found that many people use a mixture of 20% isopropyl alcohol and 80%
water (I use filtered water). I use a fine-spray bottle to apply it and then
wipe it off with a freshly washed cloth that has somewhat of a nap to it so
that it might clean the grooves. This seems to work OK for me, but I have
nothing else to compare to.
Could anyone elaborate on the cloth/brush/whatever they use to remove the
solution as this may be something I could improve on. How do you keep it
clean from grit to avoid damage to the vinyl?

Subject: Frances Langford Has Died (age 91)
MIAMI (AP) ? Frances Langford, whose steamy rendition of I'm in the Mood for
Love captivated soldiers stationed overseas on Bob Hope's tours during World
War II, died Monday. Langford died at her home in Jensen Beach, her
secretary Kim Stanton said.
A complete obituary can be found many places, including this USA Today link:

Subject: Archie Andrews - question for Hal Stone
I recently heard a special 15 minute episode of 'Archie Andrews' dated
5/7/46 titled "Archie Andrews' Day at Camp", a special program presented by
the YMCA. Bob Sherry is the announcer. Archie is played by James Dobson,
the only acting credit given, but Jughead sure sounds like Hal Stone.
Dunning says that the NBC period started on 6/2/45. Can Hal provide more
information, and why wasn't Bob Hastings playing Archie?
