Subject: "Radio Once More" is brand new

For anyone who hasn't been keeping tabs of internet radio, Neal Ellis
launched his "Radio Once More" web-site as of January 4. The site address is
[removed]. Neal and his co-host Ken Stockinger appear live for
three hours every night starting 9 pm Eastern, Monday, Wednesday, Friday and
Sunday evening, offering documentaries, informative discussions and deeper
insight into old-time radio. To give an example, I tuned in for a few
broadcasts and past discussions have included Roy Bright's recollections of
Jim Bannon. Roy was a close friend to Bannon, who was an announcer for many
radio programs and was "The Man in Black" on SUSPENSE. Neal offered sound
clips from VIC AND SADE that, if picked up in the middle of the broadcast,
would be mis-construed as perverted humor. Francis X. Bushman and his work on
movies, radio and television went in-depth. Recent restoration of Charlie
Chaplin film shorts was explained. Details regarding shortwave broadcasts of
the 1940s were described with recordings played for demonstration. A history
of outhouses was amusing. (I kid you not!) Babe Ruth's radio career including
his appearance on GANG BUSTERS and BILL STERN was on the other night. Author
Jim Rosin just recently talked about the classic TV series, ADVENTURES IN
PARADISE.

On Wednesday, January 20, Jack French from the Metro Washington Old-Time
Radio Club will be guest to talk about syndicated radio programs, and will
offer some famous and not-so-famous programs. On Monday, January 25, Rod
Serling's radio work and his TV series, THE TWILIGHT ZONE, will be discussed.
On Friday, January 27, Terry Salomonson and I will be talking about THE GREEN
HORNET on radio and not only will rare clips be played, but freebees will be
given away to callers. Neal will be posting "conception art" of THE GREEN
HORNET mask and [removed] Ward oil paintings on his web-site for listeners but
ONLY during those three hours.

In short, this has become an amusing and entertaining listen. I recommend you
check it out at [removed]

Subject: Jack Benny - radio to TV

from the April 16, 1949 New York Times:

"Jack Benny, who has made a decent living on radio for 17 years as the
amiable tightwad, doesn't give the impression of being a bit disturbed about
television. He already is convinced that he will succeed in the new medium as
in the old . . . he wants to start in television in the [removed],

". . .His own television debut several weeks ago at the KTTV dedication
program in Los Angeles was nothing short of terrific, Benny declared
modestly. In defense of his statement, Benny explained that even his wife,
Mary Livingstone, thought that it was good -- praise which he had not
expected.

". . . Benny's principal concern over television at the moment is whether he
will be able to put on his shows from the West Coast. If he has to fly to New
York to do the program, one show a month will be his maximum. . . .the
comedian said that he did not believe he would switch completely from radio
to television before the coaxial cable is laid across the country to allow
simultaneous nation-wide telecasts. That is not expected for a year or two .
. ."

In fact, after his token appearance on the 1949 KTTV special, Benny's first
full Lucky Strike Program show on TV didn't happen until Oct. 28, 1950,
eleven months before the coaxial cable was in place

I am trying to track down Larry White, a member (or former member) of the
Radio Historical Association of Colorado. I have sent a number of e-mails to
various club members and gotten dead ends. Anyone know if he's still around
and where and how I can contact him?
