Saw an obituary in the newspaper for Doris Dowling. She was in the the
movies "The Lost Weekend" (Ray Milland's prostitute drinking partner,
Gloria) and "The Blue Dahlia" (the murder victim.) Anyone know if she was
ever in radio? She certainly was active in show biz during the 1940's in
this country.

Can anyone help Theresa?
Dear Mr. Hickerson,
I am writing to you at the suggestion of Janet McKee, reference librarian at
the Library of Congress.
I am trying to locate a radio interview by the African American sculptor,
Augusta Savage (1892-1962), with Joe Bostic on "Tales form Harlem" WMCA, New
York, ca. 1939-40. She appeared on the program on a Sat. at 5:30, 3 weeks
after the program began, but I don't know the start date--do you? I would
like to know the exact date of her appearance, and get a copy of the
interview, if possible. Janet told me that, your 1996 book, you list just
one broadcast of the program in circulation among vintage radio collectors
(Jan. 8, 1938). I do not need to hear this, but wonder if you have since
heard of other relevant collections.
Also, this may be out of your area of expertise, but I am also looking for a
record that Savage recorded of her poem, "At the Crossroads," ca. 1939,
possibly on Columbia. The Schomburg has the red disk, but is worried about
breaking it if they play it. Janet said this is not listed in OCLC, the
Rigler & Deutsch Index, the International Index of Recorded Poetry, or
Literary Recordings (in the LOC), so it might be a one-of-a-kind
instantaneous acetate recording or test pressing. Do you have any thoughts
on this?
Many thanks in advance whatever help you can offer.
Theresa

I guess I'm curious about Ronnie's name since mine is similar. Feagan is
Gaelic (FAY-gun). I seem to recall Art Linkletter introducing Ronnie RAY-gun
for the opening day of Disneyland in 1955. Any 1930's recordings found?
Anxiously,
Leslie Feagan

Got a query from a gentleman who asks:
Hello
I have a specific question that you might have the
answer for.
My mother named me after a character on a daily (I
think) radio show in 1946-7. The character's name was
"Bradley".
She lived with my father in Colorado at the time. I
was born in October 1947.
I would like to find out what the show was, who the
character was, and if there are any recordings
available of this show.
Would you possibly have any information on this, or
could you lead me to someone or some organization that
might?
Many thanks
Brad Bernstein

I've been watching "The Winds of War," that ambitious TV miniseries from
the 1980s, on DVD. I noticed that Charles Correll is listed as
cinematographer. Forgive me if this has been asked/answered before, but was
he the son of THE Charles Correll of Amos 'n' Andy fame? Did he sort of
follow in his father's footsteps? (Gee, none of my kids has.)

Subject: audio sports broadcasts
I am a boxing fan, especially the fights between fighters of days of yester
year.
I have been trying to find a place or a person that might have some of
these fights on audio
CD's or cassette tapes that would sell some of them to me.
I am new at this so pardon any blunders or spelling mistakes I make.
I have a DVD player too that plays MP3s so that would be fine too.
Its boxing matches that have boxers like Floyd Petterson, Sugar Ray
Robinson, Sonny Lisdon, Joe Lewis, George Foreman etc. etc. Possibly I
should just say matches from the 1930's, 1940's, 1950's and even the 1960's.
I have one match on cassette and that one is Casius Clay vs Floyd Patterson
on Nov 26, 1965 that is not a complete match but I think I have listened to
it over 20 times and just love being taken back to the good old days of boxing.
I appreciate being able to make this request and would really appreciate
hearing from anyone that could sell me some other fights.
Please contact me at fightfan7@[removed]
Thanks again
George
