Hello again --

In answer to Dr. Jim who asked about the specific series and date of the
radio dramatization of "The Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," I find among my
tapes a Suspense episode from 12-9-56 starring Victor Jory.

I'm also wondering what the connection is between Owl Creek Bridge and
Hitchcock's Vertigo and/or their discrepancies. I'm at a loss to find any
connections between the two.

JBelpedio asked:
I do not have a radio script of An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge,
however I have a copy of the Ambrose Bierce short story and a video
(VHS)of the movie short. On what radio series was the story broad cast?
. . .
I would like to know when the story was broadcast and on which series. I
am guessing it was Suspense.

"An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" aired on least two series:
ESCAPE and SUSPENSE.
ESCAPE Air Date:
12/10/1947
 And
SUSPENSE Air Dates:
12/09/1956, 12/15/1957, & 07/19/1959

Signing off for now,

Quite possibly the best explanation of MP3 conversion and process I have
ever read. Complete with tests and graphs, theory and fact.

I have seen many questions and many more explanations on this site and was
thinking that this might be of interest to many of you.

Subject: playing 78s

I've picked up several dozen 78 records over the past
couple years and would like to listen to them, at
least once. I've read one should never use a regular
record player, even an older one with 78 capabilities.
Do any readers have suggestions for how to enjoy these
records without harming them or the player? Feel free
to contact me off list.
Thanks,
Ryan

Television is bringing back The Saint. Sadly, this article in today's New
York Post glosses over Vincent Price and the radio [removed] can only hope
this will work out better than the teenage angst version of The Lone Ranger
they tried a couple of years
ago.

Subject: Mermaids

I know of several shows about mermaids (or at least with mermaids in
the title):

Let's Pretend 08/29/42 Little Mermaid, The
Lux Radio Theater 09/06/48 Mister Peabody And The Mermaid
Lux Radio Theater 12/14/53 Million Dollar Mermaid
(not technically about mermaids, from what I know of the film)
Philip Marlowe, The Adventures of 10/01/49 Tale Of The Mermaid
(I'll bet the Mermaid here refers to a ship)

Also, some recent BBC broadcasts:
Tale Teller for our Times - Hans Christian Andersen 05/16/05 1 The
Little Mermaid
Just A Minute 01/31/05 What I would say to a mermaid
Just A Minute 01/15/07 Mermaids

I'm also sure I listened to a horror show about mermaids--possibly Dark
Fantasy or Weird Circle. I think it was about a man who gets sucked
into an undersea world by a treacherous beauty. It may possibly have
been:

Dark Fantasy 11/28/41 The Thing From The Sea

I'm sure other horror shows have touched on similar topics. (Lights
Out's "The Sea" has a related theme of a drowned man coming back from
the dead to seek revenge--not a mermaid story, but very effective!)

An Occurance at Owl Creek Bridge was on the series Escape. Harry Bartell
played the lead role and it is said that this was one of his all time favorite
shows that he did. Every year to mark the anniversary of Harrys passing, I sit
with a bottle of wine, listen to Occurance at Owl Creek Bridge and the
Gunsmoke Episode Doc Holliday (which Harry also starred in) and salute his
great career. We Miss You Harry.
