About the question of dummy microphones -- they were a lot more common than
you might realize at first glance, and precisely for the reasons suggested.
An actual velocity microphone is a heavy object -- a common 44BX weighs
about eight pounds, and the regular 90A floor stand adds at least another
thirty pounds. The 77 series is smaller and lighter, but it's still an
ungainly thing to be moving around a studio. Empty shells or fabricated
props were much more convenient to use for photo shoots, and if you've ever
been in a studio where such microphones are used, the easiest way to get
yourself killed is to swing them around and subject them to a brisk and
violent air flow. While the mike casing itself is very durable, the ribbon
inside is more delicate than a hair from your head, and if you broke or
stretched it, the microphone had to be shipped back to RCA for a proper
repair. Hacky engineers might try to put a piece of tinfoil from a gum
wrapper in there, but it would sound like a gum wrapper.
The CBS prop mike was very common in photos taken from the early forties
onward. It's based on a model 77-C, which had the twist-ring at the bottom
for switching the pickup pattern. NBC had a prop 44A that turned up a lot,
often painted white.
Haven't posted here in years, but it's good to see the list is still around.
Facebook is the bunk.

Subject: Need help finding Great Gildersleeve scripts 439
and 490
Fellow OTR enthusiasts -
I am trying to find two Great Gildersleeve scripts titled: The Easter Sunrise
Service.
The first was broadcast in the 11th season on April 9, 1952 (#439) and the
second was broadcast in the 12th season on April 1, 1953 (#490).B I would
love for our radio player troupe, The Advent Radio Players, to put one of
these on live this spring if I am able to locate a [removed] (We have been
putting on live radio shows twice a year for the last seven years here in
north Denver.)
If you have either one of these scripts or can assist me in getting either one
or both of them, I would be extremely grateful!B Thank you in advance for
your [removed] B
