Subject: Kitty
One more thing on Kitty. On the radio episode "Kitty's
Outlaw", A stranger comes to town and Kitty seems to
know this man. Later he robs the town bank and it
seems that Kitty Russel is aiding him. Of course she
wasn't but when she described her relationship with
him to Matt she said, "He was the first man I ever
knew." ( In the biblical sense of "knowing" some one
meant a sexual relation) In the video version of the
same episode the lane was deleted.

Subject: Starring Jack Benny, With Phil Harris, Bob
Crosby, Abe Lyman, Your Rexall Druggist And Yours Truly, The American
Tobacco Company
JackBenny@[removed] notes that:
Strangely enough, I recently saw the show from 11-4-1951
with Dorothy Shay, and Bob Crosby walks out and sings a
song. And this was almost a year before Bob Crosby
took over the orchestral duties from Phil Harris on the
radio show.
It wasn't so unusual. Bob "Yes, I'm His Brother" Crosby had a good working
relationship with Jack going back to 1942, when he was the most frequent
fill-in for Phil Harris during his aborted stint with the Merchant Marine
and, along with Abe Lyman, often subbed for Phil at other times when either
Harris had a commitment elsewhere or Phil could not escape another
commitment in [removed] when the cast was on the road.
By the fall of 1951, the regular show was generally, if not always,
transcribed in advance of the broadcast. This meant that there was no longer
any real reason to pay to transport the entire cast and crew back to New
York when Jack had a telecast scheduled, just to put on the regular radio
broadcast; it could simply be recorded in the same session as another
broadcast the week before, or at a special session prior to Jack's
departure.
This also meant less friction between Harris and Rexall who , according to
Jack's autobiography, had balked several times at having to move the
Harris/Faye show's cast to New York on American Tobacco's orders. Though
Harris was able to stay and do his show on a regular schedule, it also meant
that he was no longer able to work on the live New York Benny telecasts. So,
if Jack needed a bandleader for his TV show, he would have had to get the
one with whom he felt most comfortable who was in the area. My guess is that
Crosby was that guy.

Subject: Vic and Sade and the Air Adventures of Jimmy
Allen
Well, I hope the list can help. I've been trying to find good quality
copies of Vic and Sade and the Air Adventures of Jimmy Allen on cd. The
typical MP3 compressions leave much to be desired--at least the ones I've
heard. Does anyone know a source for good quality copies of these two
shows?
Respectfully,
John N. Evans

Although we don't do the MP3 thing, we do offer high quality shows on both
CD and cassettes. For the last 2 years we have been transferring a number
of programs directly from transcription discs. As a collector since 1952
and a dealer since around 1971, I may be one of the oldest collectors of
OTR as far as number of years collecting. And as a company, one of the
earliest dealers.

would be most of the shows with Gildersleeve
and Nick Dapaolous(sp?)
I especially remember the gildy vs fibber feud where they acted like they
were gonna box and they ended up playing a game of chess
it was where I felt fibber truly earned that nasty yellow streak down his back

Subject: Onion Skin
I'm amazed too, because ONLY AN IDIOT would type a script on
onion skin paper!
Nonetheless, it *was* done, at least by some programs, for carbon-copy
purposes.
I can understand using onion skin for carbon copies. Well after the
advent of photocopies, it was common to use onionskin for carbon copies,
and I did so in my office well into the 1980s -- actually, until the
changeover to computers made carbon copies impossible. But I can't
understand using onion skin for scripts to be used on air.

I received a private email from Lee Munsik asking for more information about
the incident where my father saved Arthur Godfrey's wife's life. I called
my Dad to ask for more information and as soon as he realized that someone
would be looking into this he remembered that it wasn't Godfrey's wife but
someone else.
I apologize for spreading a rumor. I grew up believing that it was true.
My father is an honest person but I guess this story grew because it was fun
to tell and it got out of hand.

Subject: VOA near Cincinnati
Hello,
Thanks to the person who alerted the community about the "Ohio Magazine"
article about the VOA Museum project near Cincinnati. I've been out of this
group for several months with computer problems and was heartened to come
back and read the post. The museum, once completed, will be quite
interesting to many I'm sure. The Gray Wireless Museum will occupy 1/3 of
the space with their rare, historic collection of broadcast equipment. The
middle third will be a museum dedicated to the history of the VOA. The final
third has been assigned to our organization, Media Heritage, for a
museum/library/research center dedicated to Cincinnati broadcast history as
well as some national programming.
In terms of the building itself, there's not too much to see right now. The
original Crosley 200-KW transmitters are gone, but we've managed to keep one
of the Continentals from the 1960's in place. The 1960 control room is
intact as is the outside switching bay (the antenna were taken down ten years
ago.) The building is in good [removed] have a few temporary displays set
up. Tours are given by reservation-only at this time.
HOWEVER, if anyone is passing through Cincinnati and would like a personal
tour, please contact [removed]'d be happy to do it (as long as I haven't
promised that particular hour to someone else obviously).
