Subject: scarecrow press
(Libraries will order, but individuals won't.)
Well, to be fair, Libraries and academia are Scarecrow's primary market, not
the general public. Same with publishers such as McFarland and Greenwood.
These companies tend to deal in titles that mainstream publishers aren't
interested in. They do small press runs and tend to assemble their books
using more durable, higher quality bindings that are designed to hold up
under heavy library use. Those are the reasons why their prices run higher
than those of the books you'll find on the shelves at Barnes & Noble. These
publishers are all more than willing to sell to individuals, but that just
isn't who they're primarily in business to sell to.

From: "B. J. Watkins" _kinseyfan@[removed]_ (mailto:kinseyfan@[removed])
If you're coming to the SPERDVAC convention this weekend (and if not, why
not!)
Alas no, as I live on the Right Coast, and am a starving actor.
don't miss the two recreations I'm directing on Saturday afternoon
Folks, Barbara's (& Bobb L.'s) work is fun. I've had the pleasure of being
at mic with them several times at FOTR, as well as with another of their
compadres, Stuart Lubin - he of last year's nice "Hans Conried" turn.
Barbara directed - and played the lead in - the solid DATE WITH JUDY a few
Octobers ago.
Best to all - wish I could be there!

Subject: What's Old is New Again
A lot more comments that I hear on radio and television and read in newspaper
columns sound like the public service announcements I've heard on OTR from
the WWII
era. They ask us to use it 'til it can't be used anymore then try to repair
it and
use it more. Cut back on expensive food items and make do with store brands
and
cheaper cuts of meat. Recycle, recycle, recycle. Prepare meals at home and
stay
away from restaurants. Use alternate forms of transportation, consolidate
trips,
share rides or walk. In a recent newspaper column the author advised us to
seek
advice from older people that lived through the depression and The War, buy a
pair
of stout shoes, to plan on walking more and to plant a (victory?) garden.
He said
it worked before and it will help now, in other words 'We've done it before
and we
can do it again!'.
We haven't gotten to the point of boy scouts collecting bundled newspapers
and worn
out metal cooking utensils or housewives saving their cooking fat and taking
it to
the butcher but I wouldn't be too surprised.

Subject: Adventure podcast
Listmembers,
I'd like to call your attention to a new podcast that I produce. It covers
adventure stories from all mediums, including old time radio. Episode 3
features a review of Captain Midnight and his appearances in radio, film,
TV, comics, and strips. We also talk about some of the radio premiums.
In the future we hope to present episodes on Superman through the ages
(featuring the radio show and Fleischer cartoons, of course). The newest
episode will cover a couple of Doctor Who adventures.
I've thought about starting an auxiliary podcast devoted to just playing old
radio shows, but haven't gotten around to it. I may still do it in the
future.
This venture is totally non-profit, and just for fun; that is until somebody
from satellite radio calls with a multi-million dollar offer!
Seriously, I hope some of your will enjoy our show. Please don't hesitate
to send us your comments and questions.
Here's the link: [removed] . And our email address:
