Subject: David Siegel, RIP
Folks;
It's always more difficult when it's one of our own.
From Susan Siegel through friend Jack French comes the news that David
Siegel, long-time old-time radio collector, author, and all-around good guy
David Siegel passed away 20 September from complications of Parkinsons. He
was 84 in August.
Outside the OTR Hobby, he worked for 37 years as teacher, principal, and
superintendent in schools in New York state. Inside the OTR hobby, he
archived one of the largest collections of programs, helped many of the "old
guard" begin their collection in the days when there was no Internet only
reels, and wrote or co-authored books about many of the programs we all love.
On a personal note, David and Jack gave Katie and me our first opportunity
to work together on an OTR-related project, their book Radio Rides the Range,
for which I can never thank them enough. Not many fathers are blessed to
spend time working on book chapters with their child, and not many
13-year-olds receive a publishing credit.
Back in 2007 as part of Radio Hanukkah on XM Satellite Radio, David and
Susan Siegel were interviewed about their book Radio and the Jews. As a
tribute to him, I've placed a copy of that program in the pCloud OTR Digest
Shared Folder. If you don't have access (no worries, it's completely free),
drop me an email for instructions.
Charlie
