Subject: I will miss Imagination Theater

Imagination Theater will be ending at the end of February. The dedicated
cast and crew deserve a lot of thanks for a lot of enjoyable series over
the years. Their flagship series; Harry Nile - really fun and
enjoyable. The Sherlock Holmes were well-cast and Larry Albert was very
faithful to the spirit of the original Watson. I prefer the Lowrie
version, but John Gilbert was a really great Holmes as well. Let's not
forget Raffles (really good, they didn't have all that many), Hilary Caine,
Kerides (interesting concept; a Ptolemaic-era detective), Kincaid (I like
the early ones), Mr. Darnborough Investigates, Call Simon Walker, and
original Halloween specials. I also liked Dameron, a pre-IT series.

And many thanks to Jim French. He has much to be proud of. What a
career! He has done audio drama since the 1960s. And Jay Green the
announcer held up magnificently well. It wouldn't be a Harry Nile without
him announcing.

Their website is open til the end of March, but per information sent to
their subscribers, if you want to buy anything do it before
mid-March. Personal note; I'd recommend the CDs over the mp3s. The mp3s
are a bit flat. However, if you go the mp3 direction, there's much choice
and the website is easy to order from.

If you're a subscriber, rip the CDs to wav/flac! Pc-burned audio CD is the
most unstable, ephemeral medium of all. Much more than even cardboard ETs
(those are still playable after 70 years). Happily, the IT ones seem to
hold up a lot better than most. I've only come across a couple with
problems. They used silk screen instead of labels. Rip the latest white
label ones immediately. if they're anything like their DVD counterparts,
the modern white-toppers go bad way more quickly than anything else.

All of the wonderful, dedicated, performers and crew deserve our applause.
All are really great. It will certainly be different not having the IT
envelope show up weekly.

Subject: Eddie Cantor

Hi

Just heard on "Those Were The Days" radio program something interesting about
Eddie Cantor. The host Steve Darnall was discussing Jack Benny with Chuck
Schaden. Chuck started broadcasting old time radio programs in the Chicago
area in the 1970's. Chuck was saying how Jack Benny let his players get the
laugh. He didn't mind playing straight man to any of them. Then he compared
Jack to Eddie Cantor. Per Chuck, if another person got a laugh during
rehearsal, the punch line was given to Eddie Cantor for the broadcast so he
would get the laugh.
