Hello,
I recall the old-time radio episode of the missing British train that
disappeared between two stops without a trace. If I recall, this was an
episode from Sherlock Holmes. The mystery was solved when Sherlock and Watson
traveled on a train taking the same route. Sherlock finally solved the mystery
when it was discovered that there was an abandoned railroad track that led to
an abandoned mine. I believe the train was made to "disappear" as part of a
robbery.

Subject: Disappearing train is ...
The poster who asked about the story about the disappearing
train is very likely the A C Doyle story called. . .
"The Lost Special."
One of my recordings is from Escape, starring Ben Wright. I won't divulge
the plot but this is well worth listening to. There is another
recording of the program by Orson Welles, same title, but on
Suspense.
Welles takes a slightly different approach, but the story
is basically the same.
This will keep you glued to your loudspeaker, or headset!

Subject: Ghost [removed]
Speaking of trains, I strongly recommend your
listening to the BBC recording of the 1920s story
"Ghost train." (I don't recall the date of the program,
but the story was first produced as a stage play in the
1920s. The author (Arnold Ridley) did some interesting staging when
he brought a steam locomotive onstage as the curtain
opened.)
It runs about 80 minutes but is full of neat comedy.
Listen especially to the maiden lady who carries
her parrot on the train ride.
