Sorry about the mistake regarding "Scotland Yard." The star of that program
was Basil Rathbone, not Vincent Price. Anyone have any episodes from that
program?

From: "Jan Bach"<janbach@[removed];

While listening to one of the many streaming audio OTR stations the other
day, I heard the announcer on Dragnet (George Fenniman?) remind everyone to
read the Dragnet comic strip "in your local paper." I wonder how many of you
knew this fact? The strip continued for three years, from 1952 to 1955, and
there are some examples of it here:

I remember seeing the Dragnet comic strip in the Albany Times-Union when
we moved to Albany in 1953. I hadn't seen Dragnet on television very
much, but I remember thinking that the drawings really did look like Joe
Friday (Jack Webb).

One of the interesting things about the strip was that, while most comic
strips were headed by the title of the strip on the left above the first
panel and the writer or artist on the right, Dragnet had no writer or
artist credit (at least in the Times-Union). Instead it said, "An
authentic police story."

BTW, I recently got hold of some DVDs of old 1950s episodes of the
Dragnet TV show, and I was surprised to see (or hear) that the famous
Dragnet theme music was blanked out wherever it appeared. I'm guessing
that the episodes were determined to be in the public domain, but the
theme music was not.

Wasn't there a "Radio Reader's Digest," as well as some daytime show

mistaken, the
"March of Time" program was produced by Time magazine.

In issue #97, Ted Kneebone asked:

Does anyone here have any episodes of "Scotland Yard's Inspector Burke" (or
some such title) starring Vincent Price. The show ran on Mutual during
1947. I have a friend who is trying to find this program.

To the best of my knowledge, there is no surviving audio copy of any of
the "Scotland Yard" programs. The program had a full one-year run from
January 21 to December 29th of 1947. Inspector Burke was played by Basil
Rathbone, and it was one of two radio series that Mr. Rathbone had
subsequent to his run on "The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes", which
he left at the end of the spring 1946 season because he thought that he
was becoming type-cast.

The other series was "Tales of Fatima", which ran on CBS radio from
January 8th to October 1 of 1949. The theme was that of Basil Rathbone
(not Vincent Price) playing himself, in a situation where various people
came to him to solve their problems because of his fame as the portrayer
of Sherlock Holmes. It was sponsored by Fatima Cigarettes.

God bless us, every one!

I'm sure I won't be the only one to say that the series starred Basil Rathbone
not Vincent Price. It was a vehicle for him after he decided to move on from
Sherlock Holmes (he was afraid of being type cast apparently). It was written
by Peter Barry (Falcon, Shadow etc.) and produced by Carlos de Angelo and
started on 21st January but I don't think it found a sponsor and it didn't
last a full year (ending 29th December).

I read some time ago that all the episodes had been rediscovered but to date
I've never seen or heard any.
