I'm catching up on the backlogged messages. As soon as I get
additional info about Jay's condition, I'll "break in" and push
    out the info ASAP.

For those few of you who might be confused about why so much
attention is being paid to this, I can only say that Jay Hickerson
probably brought more people into the hobby of collecting OTR than
any other single person. He is certainly not alone in his devotion
to the hobby, but he is responsible for a whole lot of us here
being as involved as we are. --cfs3

real-time OTR talk!

Our "regulars" include OTR actors, soundmen, collectors, listeners, and
others interested in enjoying OTR from points all over the world. Discussions
range from favorite shows to almost anything else under the sun (sometimes
it's hard for us to stay on-topic)...but even if it isn't always focused,
it's always a good time!

Subject: George Ansbro is gone

I received an e-mail earlier this afternoon stating that George died
this morning at the age of 96.
I am sure there will be more about him in the newspapers.
George was a fixture for years at the FOTR conventions.
He was a hit when we brought him out to SPERDVAC close to 20 years ago.

Subject: Your Hit Parade mystery solved

Dan Hughes sent me a copy of the YOUR HIT PARADE dated June 24, 1947, which
has been in circulation. Thanks to Dan, we now have the correct date. It
should be June 28, 1947 because it matches what we have for June 28.

Broadcast June 28, 1947
4) "My Adobe Hacienda" (Andy Russell)
6) "Linda" (Pied Pipers)
a) "Nobody's Sweetheart" (Orchestra)
5) "Chi-Baba, Chi-Baba" (Martha Tilton)
b) "Three Little Words" (Pied Pipers)
7) "That's My Desire" (Andy Russell)
c) "Brazil" (Orchestra)
3) "Mam'selle" (Pied Pipers)
2) "Peg O' My Heart" (Andy Russell)
1) "I Wonder, I Wonder, I Wonder" (Martha Tilton)

Not sure how the recoding came to be labeled June 24 by accident, but since
the show never aired on that date, we knew it had to be wrong. Not it's
corrected. If anyone has a recording dated June 24 and it matches this lineup
of songs, it's really June 28, 1947.

Subject: Memories of George Ansbro

I just heard that longtime radio/TV announcer George Ansbro, age 95,had died
over this past [removed] Ansbro was a really nice guy. What I remember
most about him was a truly funny thing he once said to me. One year he was
present at the planning meeting for the annual Friends of Old Time Radio
(FOTR) convention. As a Certified Braille Transcriber via the Library of
Congress, I volunteered my skills by offering words to the effect of "If any
re-creation director wishes to utilize a blind actor, get the script to me in
time because I'm a certified Braillist."

George remarked, "Funny, you don't look Braillish!" At the 2000 FOTR
convention, Mr. Ansbro was there not only to appear as an announcer in
re-creations but, also, to promote his autobiography "I Have a Lady in the
Balcony: Memoirs of a Broadcaster" (McFarland, 2000). I had George inscribe
my copy with this "Braillish" witticism.

George Ansbro was a class act all the way and will sorely be missed.

Yours in the "ether" (dots 1-5, dots 2-3-4-6; dots 1-2-3-5),

I was watching TV this weekend, and saw an eps of "The Dick Van Dyke
Show"
which showcased some radio performers on it. Some of the ones that appeared
were The Mad Russian and Arlene Harris. When she was on it, she reprised her
act and it was hilarious! It was mentioned that she appearedon Al Pearce's
radio
program when on radio. Are any of these programs available now?
