I have been a member of this community for around 23 years. I loved that Cha=
rlie stepped in when Bill Pfieffer passed. It has been an internet hub for m=
y OTR news and interests.

I, too, have been a long-time member of this list, for at least 25 years
and possibly [removed] And I recall that when Bill Pfeiffer passed, the
digest also operated on autopilot for [removed] I think it was a relief
to all of us when Charlie stepped in and continued the [removed] I hope
that someone will do the same this [removed] I think Charlie would want that.

BTW, We've been seeing a demonstration of one of the things Charlie did
on the list, removing the various spurious equals signs and other
symbols that get introduced when we send messages that aren't in pure
ASCII [removed] after several attempts, with help and advice from Charlie,
I still haven't been able to get my client software (Mozilla
Thunderbird) to do it.

To view posts from Harry Bar= tell and Hal Stone, you will need to do a search while on the page. A searc= h from a PC is Ctrl F, which opens a box usually at the bottom of your brow= ser in Firefox and at the top right in Chrome and Microsoft Edge. Then type = in or paste in these two ids for each gentleman: Harry Bartell <bartell@[removed] hal stone <dualxtwo@[removed]; You can then go down and find each entry with those text searches. This is as I said quick and dirty and perhaps with time, I can clean it up= and make it more elegant. If you just need the text file versions of these, = I'll try to get them onto my site for downloading. Time is the issue at th= e moment. I have digests from the start of Charlie's site in 1998 to 2002,= plus some from pre-Charlie when Bill Pfeiffer was the host. From what I ca= n tell Hal Stone and Harry Bartell posted through the two years I have post= ed. Jim Widner jwidner@[removed] ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 11 Dec 2020 16:13:03 -0700 From: Vince Long <vlongbsh@[removed]; To: [removed]@[removed] Subject: Archiving the OTR Digest Walden Hughes asked about an archive of past digests. I've been on the list since before Charlie's reign and did some saving. From before Charlie took over the list I have: Volume 95 : Issue 338 - 28 Oct 1995 through Volume 96 : Issue 507 - 31 Dec 1996 which is 634 files, [removed] MB. These are all in plain text. (I had to resurrect one of my old computers to get these as these were on 3-1/2 floppies!) Then from Charlie's era, I have: Volume 01 : Issue 26 - 24 Jan 2001 through Volume 01 : Issue 235 - 22 Jul 2001 which is 211 files (a few side letters included) for [removed] MB. These are in HTML format. After that last one he changed the Volume to match the 4-digit year so I continue with: Volume 2001 : Issue 236 - 23 Jul 2001 through Volume 2020 : Issue 62 - 9 Dec 2020 for another 4,606 files, [removed] MB, in HTML format. All total, 5,451 files, 111 MB. There might be one or two here and there in those runs that I missed but not many. While I have some programming skills and space, I'm am not up to creating a searchable archive if someone else would like to take it on with these files. The files are named as my email client at the time exported them, which for the plain text was OTR followed by the year and issue number. The HTML files are named by the full mailing date along with the volume and issue number. As the file naming is pretty consistent, inserting these into database and extracting dates, volume, and issues would be relatively easy. So, if someone wants to take this I can get them the files.
