Joe Mackey had a nice story in Digest #103 about the half hour "The National
Barn Dance"
The show lasted about 2 hours. In the middle the announcer told
the audience the show was going on the network. After the commercial half hour
the show continue for some tine.

In 1942 or 43 We lived in Oak Park about 9
miles due west of Chicago's Loop. The 8th street Theater was on Wabash Ave &
8th Street., A block from Michigan Avenue .
When school started in September
he was a boy in my class (6TH Or 7th grade) Bob Archer moved to Illinois from
Indiana. We got to great friends and we walked to and From school.
Bob was
never able to get together on Saturday night because he had to go with his
mother to pickup his Dad from work in the Loop. So What does Dad do he has to
go t the theater for rehearsals of the "National Barn dance Radio Show" .So I
asked what do for the show, and Bob Repays "He Owns It" Have you heard it and
told him I never missed on Saturday Night.

So Bob asked his mom if I could go
with the to the show, My Mom OK. Archer's Car was 1941 or 2
 Packard coup,
with a back set. It was beautiful and road like it was on a cloud.
 So we
drove the theater around 7:00 when we arrive the show had started. As we
walked into the full theater, an usher welcomed Mrs. Archer and lead us to 4
seats in the middle of the front row. Mr Archer would come from back stage and
sit for a while, and the would go back stage. Why I never asked. I was a guest
3 or 4 times what a great way to spend a winter Saturday night.
When School
started in September Bob wasn't there and no body seem to know what happened.
My family had been away on vacation, and that is when the Archer's moved .

Subject: Comedy history on the Nostalgia Digest Podcast!

The new Nostalgia Digest Podcast for October presents an education in comedy,
as we share our recent conversations with Lawrence Edwards and Robert Klein,
producer and narrator (respectively) of the new documentary, "When Comedy
Went To School." This film examines the comedy legacy of the Catskill resorts
and features recollections from some very "distinguished alumni," including
Jerry Lewis, Sid Caesar, Jackie Mason, Jerry Stiller, and the late, great
Mickey Freeman. You can download this and many other Nostalgia Digest
Podcasts (including our recent conversations with Bob Elliott and Joan Benny)
at iTunes and/or [removed].

You can also hear an excerpt of our conversation with Robert Klein this
Saturday on our "Those Were the Days" show, as part of our show about the
radio work of the great Danny Kaye (himself no stranger to performing in the
Catskills)! You can hear TWTD live every Saturday from 1-5 pm CDT on WDCB
([removed] FM in Chicagoland; [removed] everywhere). Information about the Podcasts
and the show can be found at [removed]!
