]In his remembrance of Richard "Dick" Beals, regular Digest contributor James
H. Burns recounted witnessing Mr. Beals's unfortunate encounter with a
electronically activated sliding door while attending the Friends of Old Time
Radio convention at the Holiday Inn near Newark Airport in 1999. Mr. Burns
recalled a look of frustration coming to Beals's face and then ended his
posting with the speculation:

Beals might simply have been miffed that he was in [removed]!

As a lifelong resident of Essex County NJ, I'd like to ask James: So, what's
wrong with Newark?

[ADMINISTRIVIA: Discussing Newark's relative advantages or disadvantages as a
municipality is outside the charter of the list. Discussing why Mr. Beals
decided not to attend additional Newark conventions, however, should be ok.

Subject: re Address to a live radio Audience

Christian Blees asked about an announcement to an audience about a live
broadcast.

Maybe not quite the era you are looking for but at the start of the "The
Last Goon Show of All" broadcast 1972-10-05 as part of the 50th anniversary
celebrations of the BBC there is quite a nice introduction.

Hope this helps.
