Subject: Re: Green Hornet question; and a Dan Reid
question
RyanO said,
I've also learned that there is a run of GH episodes in which Ms. Case
learned the true identity of the Hornet. Are these episodes in circulation
yet?
In the episode "Road to Ruin", broadcast Dec. 30, 1948, there's a statement
to the effect that Lenore knows Britt is the Hornet. There may well be other
episodes, maybe even a running subplot, involving when and how Lenore learned
this. I don't recall, but I suspect the "Green Hornet" book by Martin Grams
and Terry Salomonson would give you a definitive answer.
Now, here's my question. Who played Dan Reid on "The Lone Ranger" in
1943-1944 (and possibly longer)? I'm currently listening to "The Lone
Ranger", and there's a long run of programs during 1943-1944 where Dan rides
with the Ranger and Tonto. He's then sent off to school during the "Barbary
Coast" episodes of the "California series", appearing on occasion during that
series, to tell a story in flashback to a friend at school. On the Feb. 9,
1944 episode, Dan finishes school for the term (the
dean/principal/schoolmaster/whatever his title knows the Lone Ranger is Dan's
uncle, believe it or not), and Dan appears in three episodes (including that
one) up through Feb. 23, 1944 (the episode I'm currently listening to).
In all these episodes, the same actor is playing Dan. By the time of the 20th
anniversary episode in 1953, someone else had taken over. But who is the
actor who played Dan in 1943 and 1944? "On The Air" lists names of the Dan
Reid actors, but not dates they performed the part. "The Lone Ranger Log"
doesn't seem to give specific information either. Nor does "From Out of the
Past." In an interview transcribed in "Who Was That Masked Man", Ernie
Winstanley (the only Dan Reid actor whose comments appear in that book, so
far as I can tell) said he played the role in the 1930s. Which, if he wasn't
misremembering, helps with 1930s "Lone Ranger" episodes; but not with what
I'm looking for.
