Subject: blank open reel tapes

Hi,

Is there anyone still recording onto open reel tapes? I have a bunch of blank
reels, both 7-inch and 10-inch, that I want to get rid of. It seems like a
crime to put them in the trash but I fear they would end up there anyway if I
took them to a thrift store. Any ideas will be welcome.

Thanks,
Barbara

Subject: Lights Out Actor

Hello, David. The actor to whom you are referring was Lou Merrill. He
appeared in the vast majority of the Lights Out shows from the 1942-1943
Hollywood season. He was Santa Claus in The Cinnamon Bear, Thomas Highland
on Crime Classics and appeared in supporting roles on dozens of shows
including Suspense, Sam Spade, The Man Called X, Escape, This is Your FBI,
The Whistler and many more.

Other notable Lights Out episodes featuring Lou Merrill include "Revolt of
the Worms," "Scoop," "The Little People," "Kill," and "Valse Triste."

Subject: The Rise of Communism?
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: from multipart/alternative
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: Alternative section used was text/plain

With the country in such dire financial straits and the unemployment rate so
high, the interest
in Communism (whether real or imagined) was obviously the current 'elephant in
the living room'.
It proceeded until Senator Joseph McCarthy made it an even bigger issue. This
was before my
time, but as I understand it he organized a blacklist of Hollywood celebrities
who he claimed
were, or had associations with, communists and communist organizations within
the United
States. How many were actually guilty of this is questionable. Several movie
stars rose up
against this practice. Lauren Bacall, in her book "By Myself, and Then Some"
said that she and
her husband Humphrey Bogart were against the McCarthy practice of blacklisting
[removed]
especially since some weren't Communists at all. She said that once someone
was placed on
the blacklist, it was quite difficult to get off of it, even after your
innocence was proven!

McCarthy sure came down strong on the folks in Hollywood. It just shows what a
dangerous
mixture fear, paranoia, and panic can be. IMHO.

Hello

I've listened to a couple of Richard Diamond shows recently where the actor
portraying Walt Levinson didn't sound like Ed Begley. Who else would have
played that part? One of these episodes is dated Sept 20, 1953, the Edna
Wolfe Case. There is no song at the end, just music.
