Before 1938 when Sunset and Vine was built, where were NBC's studios?

Doug Douglass

NBC's broadcasts originated from radio station KFI in Hollywood. My dad, Jess
Oppenheimer, wrote for two shows broadcast live from KFI over NBC from 1936
to 1938: The Packard Hour Starring Fred Astaire, and its replacement
"Hollywood Mardi Gras." I've posted his home movies (taken in 1937 at KFI,
and featuring, among others, a very young Mel Blanc and an equally young
Frank Nelson) at

Subject: Golden Age Radio Theater

Jerry has told about Frank Bresee's old time radio show. Several years ago,
boxes of LP/ETs came to the SD School for the Blind labelled, "Golden Age
Radio Theater. These programs arrived with both the discs and the cue
sheets. Host was Victor Ives. The programs ran about 58:00 mins, with
local ads to be added. Since the School was not interested in the gift,
they were given to me. I started to dub them to cassette, omitting the
commercial breaks -- but the project has a long ways to go!

I plan to get these discs cataloged and dubbed to cassette for my
collection. The collection includes comedy, drama, anthology programs, quiz
programs, and some documentary stuff (Cavalcade of America). I have written
to Ives to tell him of the discs in case he wants copies of some of them.
There are over 600 hours of recordings in this collection.
