Dennis Crow wrote about Vinton Hayworth, concluding:
Hal Stone has promised more info on Hayworth in his forthcoming book, which
we Digest readers are eagerly anticipating.
Here, here! I recall Hayworth's work as General Schaefer on "Jeannie," and
also his two appearances as a judge on "Dragnet 1969." However, I was
greatly surprised to find him pitching the Buick commercials during "The
Berle-Buick Hour" in 1953. That strikes me as something of a comedown for a
fine actor.

It was nice to see the name of Vinton Hayworth mentioned a few days ago.
He was a very distinguished gentleman from the old school who was one of
the regular actors, along with Betty Garde and Kathleen Cordel, that I
worked with when I was the CBS engineer on the Phillip Morris Playhouse
for the last two years that it was on the air. Also I was pleased to see
the mention of Johnny Roventini who I also knew quite well. I can still
hear his "Call For Phillip [removed]". All, including director
Charlie Martin, were fine people!

I know there will be many listers answering this: The theme is
"Omphale's Spinning Wheel" by Camille Saint-Saëns.
. . . I also wanted to ask about the theme to The Green Hornet/
he Flight Of The Bumblebee. . .
The Flight Of The Bumblebee was written by Nacolai Rimsky-Korsakoff

The title track to The Shadow was Omphale's Spinning Wheel (Le Rouet
d'Omphale or something of the sort) ... IIRC by Camille Saint-Saens.
Regarding why classical music: I'm no expert but I suspect it was
economics. It would be cheaper to have the studio orchestra perform
already composed music -- especially music already in the repertoire --
than to commission a theme. I wonder if it was a variation on "public
domain" (which has never truly applied to classical music the same way
anyway).
BTW can Mr. Tollin or another Shadow expert confirm a suspicion of mine?
While the Welles/Johnstone episodes feature either organ or studio
orchestra themes, some of the wartime or immediate postwar episodes
(possibly some of Morrison's early shows) feature a very elaborate
orchestral theme -- much fancier than I would expect a studio orchestra
to be able to do. Was this theme cribbed from the serial, and why?
(IIRC the later Morrison shows go back to the organ theme.)

AandG4jc@[removed] asked about the famous theme to The Shadow. I believe it
was
"Omphale's Spinning Wheel" by Camille Saint-Saens. I have no idea which
orchestral recording was used for the broadcast intro or the
organist(s?) who played it for the outros. I suppose the Shadow [removed]
and probably somebody else on the OTR list.
