Here is something that might be of interest to the techie types on the list.
A brief article - which mentions the BBC's attempt at a stereo broadcast
in Dec. 1925, but doesn't go into details.

to learn more about the Philadelphia Experiment - the one with some
stereophonic recording of the Philadelphia Orchestra's radio broadcasts,
I mean. Some of the recordings were stereo, not all, and the b'casts
were not stereo. But they certainly pushed the envelope of b'cast radio
frequency response in their day.

Subject: Bob Mitchell RIP (1912-2009)
Legendary silent movie and radio organist, Robert (Bob) Mitchell passed away
July 4, 2009, after a short illness. He would have been 97 on October 12th.
I was waiting for an obituary to send to The Digest, but none has yet
appeared. There is a story of his professional career at this link:
[removed]
Mr. Mitchell was an honorary member of SPERDVAC, and he performed last May at
the SPERDVAC Convention. He was active and, despite his age, accepted almost
all invitations to perform, up until his illness a few weeks ago.
Services will be this Friday, July 10, at Christ the King Catholic Church,
624 North Rossmore Ave. (south of Melrose Avenue), Los Angeles, CA at 9:30
AM. Interment follows at Hollywood Forever Mausoleum, 6000 Santa Monica
Blvd., Hollywood.

Subject: Barrie Craig bridge music

X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: Alternative section used was text/plain
The bridge music that you are referring to is identical to the LP that was
issued back in the 1960's I believe. My brother purchased it at that time and
transferred it to digital a few years back. I've been listening to it and one
of the last tracks on side 2 sounds very much like what we hear on certain
episodes of Barrie Craig as well as other programs from the 1940's and 50's.
The title of the album is "Big Sam et son saxe langoureux". The translation
would be "Big Sam and His Languishing Saxophone". All of the selections have
this haunting if not sad delivery but are a pleasure to listen to. The album
must have been issued in English and a later released with French text. I
tried to find information on Big Sam on the Net but was not successful. Hope
this gives you a lead.

Subject: Dates
I wonder why it is so difficult to come up with the broadcast dates for some
shows. Didn't the networks maintain records? The sponsors? Writers?
Stars? I realize most of this information is in archives somewhere today.
It just seems odd to me that we can never find out the air dates. I suppose
one reason for latter shows is that once they started transcribing shows
there wasn't "one" broadcast date. Stations could pick up the recording and
play them at a later date. Maybe not.
For shows sponsored by tobacco products the [removed] website
would be a great help. But that still leaves a huge gap in having a
complete log for many shows.
Just curious.
