Subject: Cinnamon Bear Long Theme
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: from multipart/alternative
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: Alternative section used was text/plain

Hi Gang -

In issue 244, Glenn P. asks about the Long Theme Music used on the Cinnamon
 Bear, and states,

" ...It must really have driven the poor kidlets CRAZY when it actually
aired, as
they waited impatiently for the show to actually [removed]"

I was (am?) one of those poor kidlets who listened to the Cinnamon Bear on
the radio way back when. We did not hear all that music. We heard
commercials with the music in the background. On the Chicago station that I
heard, the commercials were for "Wieboldts Toy Teria" in that city. In other
towns stations would insert their local sponsors' messages. Also, these
commercials were not necessarily as long as the music played. The individual
stations could edit as they saw fit.

Personally, I am very happy to have recordings of the entire transcribed
programs. Too many transcribed shows have been 'truncated' before being put
into circulation. Another great "kidlet" program with lots of lead-in
music is "Speed Gibson of the International Secret Police". Again, the
actual
broadcasts did not play the music without a commercial announcement in the
foreground.

Hope this helps - Ken Piletic - Streamwood, Illinois and Alma, Arkansas

With the recent announcement that longtime TV soap opera "As the World Turns"
is shutting down come September. I'd like to give the proverbial shout-out to
one of its veteran actors, OTR performer Don Hastings (brother of our good
friend Bob).

Regular OTR convention-goers Dave and Barbara Davies like to regale fellow
fans with an interesting piece of trivia about Don in that Don Hastings has
been continuously employed since circa 1952 when he started on one TV soap
opera (I forget whichone) where he stayed for many years until ending his run
on a particular Friday, and then segueing onto ATWT the following Monday,
effectively being unemployed for the grand total of one weekend these past 57
years.

If I'm not mistaken, Don may be the longest continously and
currently employed dramatic performer, at least in [removed] TV history. Bravo, Don
Hastings!...and if you're not just ready to retire, let's hope one of the
other remaining TV soaps (all six of 'em) might enjoy make room for a
seasoned vet like yourself.

Yours in th ether,

Derek Tague

Subject: An Enchanted Forest [removed]

Is there anyone in (or who grew up in) Youngstown, Ohio that might help me
with some identification of a show?

I recently got a lacquer transcription from someone that originated at
WKBN in Youngstown. It features an episode of a 15 minute children's
adventure show that's a bit like "Cinnamon Bear", written and broadcast
just for the holidays.

The label identifies it as "Mystery Castle - Ep 9", but I think that's the
name of the episode, not the series. The opening has the "Princess of the
Enchanted Forest" introducing the show and the announcer noting that we've
heard the adventures of the kids in the Enchanted Forest over the past few
days.

The characters spend the show breaking into a "Mystery Castle" with a
special key to open a "Mystery Package". At the end of the show, we're
encouraged to get our own "Mystery Package" from a local store, Stambo
Thompson, where we can see characters from the program and, at Christmas,
see the contents of the "Mystery Package". According to the label and
show credits, it was written by "Ellamae Casteel".

This appears to be a previously undocumented local show, so I'd appreciate
any help in figuring out possible dates and what the heck the actual title
of the show is.

Here's an incentive - if someone digs up the title of the show, I'll post
it on my blog before Christmas. :)

Thanks.

Randy

Folks in the vicinity of Santa Rosa, California may be interested in a show
now running at a local playhouse titled "Ham for the Holidays". A brief
description is as follows:

"It's the winter of 1939 in tiny Hamlin, Ga., where a rare blizzard has
gripped the town for three days. At radio station WHAM, the cast and crew
anxiously await a visit from Orson Welles for a special holiday broadcast."

I have not seen the show so can't weigh in on it merits of lack of same.
