Subject: On A Note of Triumph and Cincy OTR Convention
All,
Is there a way that someone could get a hold of a copy of the "On A Note of
Triumph "on DVD and possibly show it for the audience at the
upcoming Cincy OTR convention? I sure it would be enjoyed by all.
Dan Riedstra
[ADMINISTRIVIA: Public display of a copyrighted work requires licensing
arrangements with the rightsholder. I'm quite certain the $15 tax-deductable
donation being requested by NomaFilms does _not_ convey rights of public
display, which would put the convention at risk.
Better we _all_ send them $15 to encourage them to continue making
documentaries of radio greats. I know I did. --cfs3]

understand Little Orphan Annie offered this. I sent in 1943 or 44. Was
Orphan

Subject: Question for the list
My family and I are all OTR fans!
For our church family camp, we do re-creations of OTR programs.
This year we want to do "The White God", a 1939 program from "The
Shadow".
Questions:
1. Does anyone know where I can get the script?
2. Some help on sound effects:
a. How did "The Shadow" filter his voice to get "The
Shadow" effect?
b. Any general helps on creating radio sound effects?
The books I have purchased haven't been very helpful.
I love the OTR digest! Keep up the great contributions.

Slightly [removed] I shall tie it all into OTR.
Lately, some friends and I have been discussing the notorious episode of TV's
"The Adventures of Superman" appropriately titled "Great Caesar's Ghost!"
(based on a comic book story) in which Perry White is scheduled to be the star
witness at the trial of some gangland kingpin; this prompts the crime boss's
minions to exploit Perry's notorious proclivity for uttering his "GCG!"
catch-phrase by appearing to him as the ghost of Julius Caesar (via some
cheap theatrical pyrotechnics) all in the vain effort to have Perry declared
mentally unfit to give testimony. A crank caller to radio's "The Bob Grant
Show" often used the line "It is I, Great Caesar's Ghost. Why do you summon
me, Perry White?"
Anyway, since it has often been discussed here that many of the Superman
conventions & situations had originated on the radio, I'd like to know if,
indeed, the phrase "Great Caesar's Ghost!" had its origins on radio or in the
comic books. Maybe some Supes historian, like the one in Texas whose
specialty is "The Shadow" or the feller in the Washington DC area who doubles
as "Mr. Dragnet," can shed some yellow sunlight on said topic.
"Yours always in the ether!"
Derek Tague
