'Just to be clear--
And I was amazed to read how FAR BACK the history of WHBI went!
The station still had its Manhattan studios, at least as late as the
very early 1980s.

Subject: Walgreens OTR CD's
Bought a Fibber McGee and Molly CD for $1 at Walgreens and was very
disappointed that the 2 shows didn't include Molly. With over 700 shows
available it amazes me they would put 2 shows on the CD without Molly.
The best part of the show was the interplay between Fibber and Molly and
without her in the shows it just wasn't the same.
The sound wasn't too good on the first show but the second show played OK
with no extraneous noise.

It was a series in the mode of "Mr. Keen, Tracer of Lost Persons". It was
one of my favorites growing up, I preferred it to Mr. Keen. I am only aware
of two existing episodes: "The Case of Murder and the Million Dollar Smile"
4/23/53 & "The Perfect Maid Murder Case" 12/19/48. They used to be available
from Radio Spirits and might still be. I hope someone informs us that more
episodes have been found.
The Radio Spirits collection that these episodes appeared in was CBS's 60
GREATEST OLD TIME RADIO SHOWS. Unfortunately, this item has been
discontinued for some time, and I can't seem to find any other episodes of
this series here in house.

For those of you in the USA who can download BBC Radio 4, you might be
interested in a documentary about radio jamming in the Cold War era. It is
called 'Political Interference' and will be on at 2000 - 2030 hrs UK time on
Thursday 17th August.

I checked out the old time radio cd's at my neighborhood Walgreen's,
and found that they had a wide range of programs and genres. I purchased
5 different programs and each one had surprisingly good sound quality.
I'd suggest that, especially for anyone just starting out, this would be a
great
deal! Some of the titles I found were: "Casey, Crime Photographer", "Fibber
McGee and Molly", "Dick Tracy", "Father Knows Best", "Dimension X",
"The Great Gildersleeve", "The Fred Allen Show", "Burns and Allen", "The
Adventures of Michael Shayne" and "The Jack Benny Show". I'm certain that
there are others. But for $1 a piece, and having the sound quality that these
had,
it's quite a bargain!
Another OTR Fan,
Kenneth Clarke
