Subject: A Paul Frees question
Well Ben posted about Paul Frees and the work that his son is doing, which
prompted me to ask another Paul Frees question. I have a 78 of Paul Frees in
his character of Big Jim Buchanan, a record with Money on one side, and The
Convention on the other. By the way, I heard this voice on Suspense, and
didn't realize that it was Paul until I researched it. The episode is Old
Army Buddy, from September 8, 1957, with Victor Jory. So my question is,
were there any more records by Big Jim Buchanan? Did Paul make any other
records of any kind?
Thanks a lot.
Matthew

Subject: Lone Ranger doubles
Rick Keating asked whether either Earle Graser or Brace Beemer ever doubled
another character in an episode of The Lone Ranger. I know of two instances
in which this may be the case. In episode 70, from 6/27/1938 with the title
"Deal for the Soldiers", a member of the army detachment sounds a great deal
like Earle Graser. The voice never reappeared on any of the subsequent
programs.
In the accompanying notes for Radio Spirits sixty program release of Lone
Ranger episodes from 1952, the following quote appears, attributed to Dick
Beals: "Brace Beemer seldom doubled on the Lone Ranger, but plays a rare
second role as a posse member in Mesa Manhunt (program 2292 from 9/12/1952),
playing him younger and lighter than the Ranger".
In any event, such an occurrence was very rare. WXYZ had a large stable of
actors on which to draw for minor voices.
