Subject: Guide to the oral history of old time radio

A guide to the oral history of old time radio. What could be more natural?

For years, collectors, researchers and writers have scoured what
remains of the written record of old time radio in books old and new,
fan magazines and archival collections tucked away in the depths of libraries.

But surprisingly little attention has been paid to one of the most
obvious sources of information about old time radio: oral histories,
many compiled by such veterans of the hobby as John Dunning, Chuck
Schaden, Dick Bertel, Ed Corcoran, Richard Lamparski and Frank Bresee

Over the past 40 or so years, hundreds of individuals involved in all
aspects of radio from writing, directing, producing and performing to
the behind the scenes technicians, businessmen and station owners,
have shared their experiences with these and other interviewers. In
many instances, the interviews may be the only source of information
about a person, program or station history.

Least this valuable resource get lost in history, I decided to do
some research and compile a listing of what oral history interviews
existed, where and how copies could be obtained, and share my
findings with other collectors and researchers. The result is my
latest book, "Remembering Radio," a guide to more than 1,300
interviews of over 990 individuals located in 21 separate
locations. (Some individuals gave more than one interview.)

The 411 page book is available from Bear Manor Media, [removed]

"Remembering Radio" also includes the transcript of 14 interviews
that I conducted myself, including Parker Fennelly, better known as
Titus Moody (resident of Allen's Alley), along with the Incomparable
Hildegarde, Edgar Bergen's songbird, Joan Merrill, plus juvenile
vocalists Anne DeMarco, Mary Small and the Moylan sisters. Other
interviews include Miriam Wolff, Old Nancy from The Witch's Tale
written by Alonzo Deen Cole, as well as an interview with Cole's wife
Dorothea, and many other radio personalities whose candid interviews
add spice and insight into our perception of radio's Golden Age.
