Subject: RADIO RECALL April issue

The April 2011 issue of RADIO RECALL has been received in PDF format
by the subscribers who requested it in that venue; hard copies will
be mailed out the third week of April to the rest of the subscribers.

The lead article is on the career of Norman Brokenshire, a young
Canadian boy who grew up to become one of the best known announcers
on radio and television. His humble beginning will touch even the
coldest heart. Karl Schadow covers the famous horror series (from an
Oklahoma studio) in the second and last part of "Dark Fantasy" which
includes plot summaries of this remarkable broadcast series.

There is an article about "Land of the Lost" the Saturday morning
kids adventure-fantasy program in the late 40s. Isabel Manning
Hewson, a native of Baltimore, was the writer, director, and narrator
of this undersea series. One of the main characters in it, Red
Lantern, was played by Art Carney. "Joe Palooka" was a long-running
comic strip but a very short radio series. In April issue, learn all
about this champion boxer, including his movie reincarnations, and
the tragic end of his creator, Ham Fisher.

"Quiz Kids," radio's pint-sized version of "Information Please" is
discussed in this issue as are the reasons for its integrity and
popularity. A special feature "ShorTakes" compiles radio quotes from
various books, this time by Mickey Rooney, John Houseman, Nancy
Sinatra, Richard Lamparski and others. All this plus Letters to the
Editor, details on upcoming OTR conventions, a scramble puzzle by
Adam Roslewicz, and at least two April Fool entries.

Subject: This is War

A friend of mine is looking for a copy of an episode of THIS IS WAR, March
28, 1942, "It's In The Works" with John Carradine. It seems no one I know has
a copy of this, and he'd like to listen to it for a John Carradine book he's
finishing. My source that said they had it turns out they don't. My friend
needs a CD, an mp3 if desperate and the only format possible. Anyone able to
send me a file or CD? I'll make sure he knows your name to credit you in his
book. Many thanks in advance, Martin

Subject: Thank you for your Gunsmoke Help

Thank you to everyone who helped me with my Gunsmoke questions. Jack French
and Scott Livingston were very kind, and I especially want to thank John
Heimann who went above and beyond researching the shows for me.

BTW, the episode where Chester spits in the snake's eye is called "Kitty
Caught" and the one where Chester stops a fleeing man by dropping a chamber
pot on his head is "Confederate Money."

I'm working on a show for [removed] about Gunsmoke and Chester,
particularly focusing on episodes where Chester is played as more than just
the affable sidekick. Watch this space for scheduling details.
