Subject: SPERDVAC Convention 2012
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: from multipart/alternative
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: Alternative section used was text/plain

The Convention team at SPERDVAC has been working to put together an
enjoyable, entertaining event for OTR fans. Remember we are gathering near
LAX
Friday, Nov. 9 until Sunday, Nov. 11.
Our recreations will include lots of laughs when Gregg Oppenheimer
and his crew of thespians perform a presentation of It Pays to be Ignorant.
And they'll also take us on a memorable visit with The Shadow and Margo
Lane.
Herb Ellis, long-time radio and tv actor, will produce and direct a
recreation of the New Adventures of Nero Wolfe story "The Case of the
Calculated Risk." We are presenting two adventures of The Mysterious
Traveler
-- one on Friday evening and the other on Saturday afternoon. Both employ
scripts of 1944 shows which have not yet surfaced: "Blood on the Moon" and
"Escape by Death." The scripts were donated to us several years ago by
David Kogan, one of the program's writers.
Our pal Ken Greenwald has organized a recreation of the Suspense
story "The Keenest Edge." It's a presentation otr fans haven't heard since
the CBS broadcast of Feb. 28, 1946. No transcription of the show has
surfaced so far and the story was never re-used on the dramatic series. We
hope
our audience will enjoy watching productions of programs they haven't
heard in recent times.
And speaking of the Suspense series, Ken Greenwald is also bringing
us a color film made during the rehearsal and broadcast of "Nobody Loves
Me" starring Peter Lorre. It will include the complete story which aired
Aug. 30, 1945.
Two special presentations are planned for Saturday. They are titled
"Moments in Time -- Rare Recordings of Early Radio 1928 - 1940" and "Rudy
Vallee: Pioneer of Early Radio." Marc Friend has assembled still
photographs and films Vallee made during rehearsals of his radio shows plus,
naturally, audio for this presentation. We'll see footage from Vallee's
programs
of the 1930s plus scenes from his Sealtest series with John Barrymore in
the early 1940s.
On Sunday, Nov. 11 Nancy and Fritz Foy will be on hand with a
presentation on their father, announcer Fred Foy, and his career.
We really suggest strongly that those planning to attend the
SPERDVAC convention make reservations in advance. A reservation form is
available
from our web site: _[removed]_ ([removed]) . See
you there!
