Yes, I wrote that Wikipedia [removed] sources is the way to avoid such
tampering, apparently.
Don't be too sure about that. As Spike Jones' biographer, I tried to police
his Wikipedia bio and correct the various errors and distortions; it
eventually proved to be an exercise in frustration, regardless of sources
cited. And I got blasted by their in-house staff for citing my own books as
sources for material other people had copied from them.
regards,
Jordan Young

1956- Wild Bill Hickok (and Jingles) rode off into the sunset on Mutual
for the last time, having been on radio since 27 May 1951.
I think this was one of the small handful of shows that started on
television and then added a radio version. Does anyone have a
definitive list of these? The ones that come to mind are Tom Corbett,
Space Cadet; Space Patrol; and My Little Margie.
There were also at least a couple of shows that started on radio,
expanded to television, and then added a new radio version of the TV
show. I know of two such shows: (1) The Goldbergs, which started in
1929 on radio, ended on radio in 1945, then started again on television
a few years later and at some point added a radio version of the TV
show; and (2) Howdy Doody, which began as a character on Bob Smith's
Saturday morning local New York radio show, Triple-B Ranch, moved to
television in December 1947, and then added a Saturday morning radio
version circa 1951, which lasted until Buffalo Bob's heart attack in
1954. Are there any others?

there was no mention of the LR's first name.
I have amended my LR/GH post adding:
(*The name of John is disputed since his first name is believed not
to be recorded anywhere).

Subject: Clive Rice, RIP
Rosemary, the sister of Clive Rice, Mutual's last "Bobby Benson", phoned me
today with the sad news of Clive's death last night in Roanoke, VA. He was 75
years old and succumbed to cancer after a battle of about six months. Funeral
arrangements are incomplete but will probably be in Roanoke on Saturday,
February 20th.
Clive was born January 17, 1941 in Surrey, England. His family immigrated to
the [removed] when he was in grade school. After Ivan Cury and Bobby McKnight had
the role of "Bobby Benson", Clive took over the title role in 1951 (using the
professional name "Clyde Campbell.") He played that role until the series
ended in June 1955. He was also in a 5 minute spin-off, "Songs of the
B-Bar-B" during that same time, as well as a local "Bobby Benson" TV show in
New York City.
After high school, Clive enlisted in the [removed] where he had a long career.
He retired to Roanoke, VA several years ago. His wife, Betty, preceded him in
death; she died in April 2012. Clive attended several OTR conventions
including FOTR and Cincinnati where he met with his fans.
I have been in regular contact with Clive for the past ten years. He and his
wife were involved in Civil War research and active in their community. He
recently donated all of his Bobby Benson materials (costumes, holster set,
souvenirs, publicity photos and posters, etc.) to the Library of American
Broadcasting at the University of MD, where they are presently archived.

Would someone confirm the starting date of this show. I have Feb 11th, 1949.
Also according to John Abbott's book that is the starting date. Also he has
no show on the 18th with the second one on the 25th. I have the 11th, 18th
and the 25th available.
I looked at James Jones newspaper accounts and he shows the NYT has the 18th
the first date and Jane Froman listed on the 11th at 10:30 pm. There appears
to be a discrepancy. What is correct? Jay
