Are there just four otr shows for actress Diana Barrymore? She is the child
of actor John Barrymore. Well, I have been searching the web to see if Diana
Barrymore performed on other radio shows and nothing has come but these. Jack
Carson Show, Lincoln Highway radio show, Jerry Lester Show, and Hollywood
Open House. Is that all she performed on? I know are movie career began in
the
1940's-1950's, such a cute lady who died very young and tragic. If anyone
knows of any other radio shows Diana Barrymore performed on, feel free to
share
this information.

Someone asked about The Anderson Family. I know only that it was in 1947 that
Walter Tetley signed for 38 syndicated shows. I have only two, one about an
election and the other about a lawnmower. Dick Lane and Louise Arthur were
featured.

does anyone know the date on this hetrodine radio
where Fibber sets the dial to tune in different years? Perhaps we could
figure it out if we knew the anniversary date of NBC.
My listing shows the date of this broadcast to be November 16, 1951.

Sorry folks, the other day I mislabeled the "My Friend Irma" show.

Subject: most confusing series to log/catalog?
The Witch's Tale seems to be the most confusing series
to catalog - There's an excellent log for the network
dates, but as most surviving eps are from the
syndicated series (I think I read in the past there
were two syndicated series? - the All-Star series,
which I have a disc of and another?). Then there was
the Australian run (and I think there were two of
those too?) Maybe 3? Because in the past, I dubbed
discs with the Macquarie label ("The Devil's Hands"),
it had #325. However, it seemed to be the [removed] cast
and the episode ran appx. 35 minutes (correct speed).
Recently, people have been slapping network dates onto
syndicated Witchs Tales, making it more confusing
still.
I wish people in the past had bothered to write down
the program number of some of the Witch's Tale
syndicated shows. Some in circulation are numbered,
some aren't.
Michael Shayne is another confusing one. Goldin seems
to be the closest to correct in program numbers, but
for some unknown reason, in the past people didn't
note the program numbers on the show (I don't know why
people do that).

Larry Moore asks:
In George Burns book "All My Best Friends" he mentions that Benny had
auctioned his violin for a benefit. Who has the violin now? Do we have
another "Red Violin" story here?
That was for WWII bonds, I believe. Not sure where it is now. Hard to say
because in subsequent years, Jack gave away a LOT of prop violins. So there
are plenty of Benny violins floating around in various places.

George Turebiter asked about OTR-era, non-retro films in which characters are
listening to actual OTR programmes.
Can anyone think of other films from this era where
fictional characters listen to actual OTR programs? I'm only referring to
films actually made in the OTR era, I know there are countless films made in
recent decades but set in the OTR era which include bits of actual OTR on
the soundtrack.
How about "Radio Bugs," a 1944 M-G-M "Our Gang" film short? It starts out
with Billy "Froggy" Laughlin and his folks listening to the tail end of "The
Red Skelton Show." I believe Red ends the show with the wartime reminder
"It's [removed] bondage." Froggy then gets the idea that he and the Gang (at
this point him, Bobby "Mickey" Blake, Billie "Buckwheat" Thomas, and Janet
Burston)
should start a radio acting [removed] I'll spare you the details. It's pretty
bad.
Of course, Red Skelton was also on the M-G-M payroll at the time acting in
films recycling 20-year old Buster Keaton scripts.
"Bye-Bye and Buy Bonds!" (my pal Anthony Tollin uses that line occasionally)

1933 - CBS debuted Marie the Little French Princess which had a run of
two years.
1944 - Norman Corwin hosted a program titled, Columbia Presents Corwin
on the CBS network this day.

1925 - Bernard McFadden was a physical culturist who had a radio show in
New York City. But not for long. McFadden failed to show up for his
daily morning program, causing a young, studio engineer, John Gambling,
to ad-lib on the air for a solid hour. As a result, the station (WOR)
decided to give Gambling the morning announcer's job. John Gambling
stayed at WOR for many years, then turned the mike over to his son, who,
finally, turned the program over to his son ... all named John. Mr.
Gambling's Rambling with Gambling program attracted tri-state (New York,
New Jersey, Connecticut) audiences in record numbers for over 70 years
on the 50,000 watt talk-radio powerhouse at 710 AM on your radio dial
from New York each morning.

1945 - Those Websters debuted on CBS. Willard Waterman starred as George
Webster.

1922 - Variety magazine greeted readers with the front-page headline
that read, "Radio Sweeping Country - 1,000,000 Sets in Use."
