I have two Jack Benny shows in my cassette library which involve The
Beavers. One is from 02-20-55 where The Beavers put on a children's
version of the jack Benny Program. The other is from 02-15-48, where The
Beavers have a birthday party for Jack. I don't know if that helps.

Subject: When did you hear The Whistler?
Trina must be a West Coast resident. She wrote:
Can anyone tell me if the Whistler radio show had the most runs on Sunday
nights or Monday nights during it's time on the air. I notice the Whistler
ran other days besides Sunday and Monday nights. Which is true?
>From one who was underprivileged ([removed], didn't live on the West Coast) I had
to depend on the full CBS network to deliver The Whistler to me, which it
did from July 3-September 25, 1946 and from March 26, 1947-September 29,
1948, both runs on Wednesday nights (no Sunday or Monday nights for the
whole country).
However, by examining the resourceful "Radio Crime Fighters" (McFarland,
2002) by a fellow named Cox, pp. 273-274, I discovered that The Whistler
mostly appeared as a CBS West Coast run on -- aha! -- Saturday, Sunday,
Friday and Monday nights. (Specific dates included, if you want to tally
the number of broadcasts by days of the week, Trina.) But then we vintage
old time collectors may have known that anyway since those transcriptions
we've listened to for decades mostly proffered Signal Oil, a West Coast
outfit. The Campbell Soup Co. and Household Finance Corp. underwrote the
features that everybody across the [removed] heard simultaneously.

Some time ago, I posed a question asking for more information about the
faked Pearl Harbor announcement on the Metropolitan Opera of Dec 7 1941.
No doubt you mean the NY Philharmonic broadcast. The Met has always been a
Saturday "live" matinee broadcast so that year is was on the air on Dec 6th.

Subject: Chuck Schaden on When Radio Was
Greetings, Digesters.
There was some chat yesterday about Chuck Schaden coming on board as the host
of When Radio Was. I am delighted to acknowledge that this is, of course,
true! However, the article in the Chicago Sun Times left out a few important
details, so I thought that I would share them here.
Mr. Schaden's first When Radio Was broadcast will air on October 9th. (Check
local listings for times - if you are interested in finding a station in your
area that carries the program, go to: [removed] and go to the
"Find Local Station" box on the top right of the page)
The article also didn't mention that Mr. Schaden will be sharing some of his
many interviews with OTR legends with When Radio Was listeners as a part of
some broadcasts. (The schedule should be up on the website soon.)
Here's looking forward to October 9th!
