Subject: YTJD Collection - Mystery Voice

Rick Keating asked me yesterday - via the Digest - whose voice delivers the
plug for Radio Spirits at the end of our new Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar
collection. Well, Rick, you have come to exactly the right place! The voice
at the end of the collection is none other than mine - Yours truly, Karen
Lerner! They have had me recording these promo spots at the end of our new
collections for a while now, and I've been wondering whether or not anyone
actually listened to them. I guess now I have my answer.

I'm really glad to hear that you are enjoying the collection and the new
packaging. Mary and I have been telling the powers-that-be all along that
there are plenty of customers out there who still want cassettes. The YTJD
cassettes have done well and we're planning on releasing a number of our
newer products in this format (in addition to CD).

Best,
Karen Lerner

Subject: Wrong! no Right.

Even when I get it wrong, I get it right. One of the main reasons, if
not the main reason I do the births/deaths list is to recognize some
of the lesser knowns of old-time radio, if nothing else but to
mention their birth and death dates. Recently I listed the wrong
birth place of Korla Pandit, which by the way I did get from a web
site. Seems he was born in St. Louis, not New Delhi like I had. But,
because of that wrong birth place much dialog on Pandit was
forthcoming. I was glad to see that. By getting it wrong it brought
Korla Pandit in the forefront, if only for a short while.

I want to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have helped
me, by getting names and by sending me corrections. It is very much
appreciated.

Subject: Korla Pandit ????

For the past few OTR Digests I have reading Korla Pandit and I said to my
who the hell is Korla Pandit? What sex is Korla man or woman? Well I have
read all the info about HIM one line and now I know his life history and I
assume that the people who knew him are those who live near the Pacific
Ocean, because his fame has never apparently never reached the Great
Midwest.

I have never heard of the man on Radio or TV and I have been listening to
radio and watching TV for a long time and been an OTR collector since 1971
and never seen or heard of Korla Pandit in my 76 years. I guess your never
to old to learn!

Do OTR collectors have Pandit's radio shows? Like some people of color he
found he could pass himself as an Indian, and was more acceptable to society.
How times have changed.

Subject: Origin Of "Don't You Believe It!" In Hollow
 Voice ???

I am the originator of the following question on Google Answers:

- ---
Title says it all: What's the origin of the phrase "Don't You Believe
It!" said in a hollow voice? It's probably from a commercial, and
probably a RADIO commercial at that -- but a commercial for WHAT? You
hear it from time to time, for example, in cartoons (I can cite at
least two "Tom & Jerry" cartoons where it is used), but I have no idea
what it is a reference to. Exempli gratia: Tom reads from a book which
says, "A cornered mouse NEVER FIGHTS", and attacks a cornered Jerry.
Moments later we see a black-eyed Tom intoning "Don't You Believe
It!". Are there any Old Timers "out there" who can point to a web
reference telling us Unknowing Youngsters the origins of this old
chestnut?
- ----

Following up on a response to this query has led me to subscribe, and to
post this query, to this Mailing List. Any information on the subject would
be very greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Subject: Large OTR Collection For Sale

Hello All,

Does anyone know anyone in the market for an instant
OTR collection? After almost 30 years of collecting
OTR I find myself needing to find a new home for
everything. Due to space limitations in my new house I
am trying to sell my entire OTR tape collection. This
includes approximately 2,000 - 7" reel to reel tapes,
approximately 100 - 10 1/2" reel to reel tapes, and
approximately 1,300 cassette tapes. You would have to
pick up the collection in person with a van or small
truck. I live just outside of Trenton, New Jersey so
it could be a good opportunity for people heading to
the convention in Newark next month. I will also
include one reel to reel tape deck and one cassette
deck.

If anyone is seriously interested please contact me
off list and I can provide more details and send
attachments of the complete collection in Microsoft
Word files.

Tom
