Thanks for the interesting piece on Chicago radio history. I just moved to
Chicago last summer. During the multiple trips it took to move, I was looking
for things to pass the time on road.
That's when I ran across Jack Benny Podcasts on iTunes from a guy who goes by
the handle of "Buck Benny."
His interesting gimmick is that he plays Benny programs from that specific
week ([removed] 3rd week of April) from 80 years ago - and also from 75, 70, 65,
and 60 years ago.
So you get to hear all Benny shows from around April (or Christmas, or
Valentines Day, etc.) from the years 1934, 1939, 1944, and 1949.
He also records a little introduction pointing out cast changes that were
made or what was going on in current events at the time or what the cast was
up to outside of the broadcast.
It is a clever way to make Old Radio seem refreshingly current.
He has a goal to do this for all 900+ Benny shows and he is about 2 years
from hitting that goal. [removed]
For what it's worth - I am now a steady [removed] (and not connected in any
way)
