Subject: Update for Arthur

Craig and Bernadette Wichman spent the afternoon of Jan 24th with
Arthur Anderson at the rehab center where he's recovering very well,
diligently doing his therapy. He will have to continue this therapy
at home as he is scheduled to be released on Wednesday the 26th.

While at the rehab center, Craig and Bernadette joined Arthur and
other patients for a gypsy jazz concert given by a combo, the Velvet
Kings. Arthur sang along with the old standards, "The Sheik of Araby"
and "Is You Is, or Is You Ain't My Baby?" and afterwards he chatted
with the musicians about his guitar and ukulele history.

To his friends in the OTR community, Arthur said "They can send
cards, if they'd like to."

Please keep Arthur in your thoughts and prayers, and Craig encourages
us to not forget Alice, as this has been very tough sledding for her.

For those Digesters who want to send Arthur cards or notes of
support, send them to:

Arthur Anderson
c/o Charlie Summers
211 Pauline Drive #525
York, PA 17402-4637

and he will forward anything received to Arthur.

I have the suspicion that this might be several obituaries that somehow got

Subject: Westerns for History Club

Keith Houdeshell asks about radio westerns, in addition to
"Gunsmoke," that should be included in a presentation to his local
history group.

Obviously two that leap to mind would be "Fort Laramie" and "Frontier
Gentleman." The skilled and knowledgeable quartette of John Meston,
Kathleen Hite, Les Crutchfield, and John Dunkel, who produced
historical accurate programs for "Gunsmoke" did the same for "Fort
Laramie." Even actual historical personages and events turn up in
their scripts. For background on "Fort Laramie" go to my article on
the web at:

<[removed]>

"Frontier Gentleman" was also scrupulously accurate in terms of the
period and the region. Tony Ellis, who wrote and directed the series,
had a massive personal library of western history books from which to
draw the facts of that era which he incorporated into his scripts.

All three of these series should definitely be a part of Keith's
presentation.
