Subject: Unique Radio Voices
I've been listening to a few radio routines between Rochester and Butterfly McQueen. That's got
to be the greatest pairing of unique comic voices I've ever heard! It got me to wondering, who
are some of the other great comic voices of radio with unusual vocal tracts? Of course there was
Mel Blanc, the man of a thousand voices, but even if he or she had only one voice, who else stands
out like Rochester or Butterfly?
I actually recall hearing a Jack Benny show wherein Rochester chatted
for several minutes with Andy Devine. Benny's comment was "Those two
voices drove Gravel Gertie into hiding!".

Subject: Unique radio voices
Some of the more unique comedic voices from old time radio would include
Harold Peary as the Great [removed] easy to tell it was him when he
talked. Others would include Leroy another voice that was easily
recognizable and stood out. Teeny the voice of the little girl on Fibber
McGee voiced by Marion [removed] Ace of The Easy [removed] of course
Lum N' Abner who both had unique voices.

Subject: XM vs. Sirius
As Christmas and Hanuka seasons approach, I am contemplating giving an avid
OTR fan satellite radio as a gift. Any thoughts out there on which of the
two systems has better OTR?

They both have exactly the same [removed] systems have channels named
RadioClassics programmed by MediaBay (Radio Spirits), which contains edited
(hacked-up) OTR to make room for the stream of contemporary commercials they
add into the service. Much like "When Radio Was," if you're interested in
OTR, you won't be interested at all in listening to their service. I wrote
about the channel on my blog at:
[removed]
...and said, "...a serious collector wouldn't give this channel more than
five-minutes worth of [removed]"
(XM _does_ have a contermporary audio theater channel I listen to
occasionally, and of course XMPR with its cornerstone, "The Bob Edwards
Show," but for OTR, you're better off downloading _complete_ episodes from
the Internet or purchasing from the reputable delaers who routinely post
here.)
