Mr. Ross definitely has me doubting [removed]! Perhaps my recordings are
misdated, though I seem to remember seeing a Variety mention of George'
mini-show (long ago). I will certainly check [removed] One other point:
George switched to CBS for the 1959-60 season; NBC had dropped him after four
years . This was the final season of George's show. He alternated with Jack
Benny, who was in his final year of bi-weekly programs before going to once a
week. So George was, at least, properly situated to dip into CBS Radio (not
that that proves he did, I realize!)

Thank you.

Among the things I'm grateful for this past year is that Donnie Pitchford took
time from his Lum and Abner duties to resurrect my radio program [removed] 50,
turning it into an engaging 90-minute video documentary. Beginning in 1922
WREC in Memphis pioneered a number of program types including remote coverage
of natural disasters such as flooding of Mississippi and Ohio Rivers in 1937.
The station was an early key CBS affiliate responsible for originating
numerous network shows in the Thirties and Forties, including regular live big
band broadcasts from the Peabody Hotel.

He guest-hosted the comedy quiz show "Two for the Money" once or
twice, and that was when I first saw him. He also made an appearance on
the Howdy Doody show, though I didn't see that until relatively
recently, when I saw it as an "extra" in a 40-episode DVD set of Howdy
Doody shows. He appeared on Jack Benny's radio and TV shows a few
times, and he became a regular panelist on "What's My Line?" until his
sudden death in 1956.

There are several Allen clips on You Tube, including some you
mentioned.

One show had a funny blooper, that being live nothing could be done
about it.

I forget the show, but around Two for the Money era. He was in a
skit and the man in front of him was waving his arms while singing or
the like and Allen was a just a tad too close and got socked in the
nose. From the look on his face it was not planned. He was unhurt.
