The publication of a list to a heretofore little-known collection of captured
Nazi recordings should require no elaborate justification. Serious historical
inquiry and unflagging popular interest virtually guarantee that nazism and
the Third Reich will be ever topical and relevant. Similarly, both the public
and the scholarly community readily agree that recorded oral history provides
us with a unique historical perspective on our times. Thus the combination of
an important historical subject and a fruitful form of source material should,
in itself, be sufficient reason to produce such a list, provided that the
material in the collection is historically significant and does not simply
duplicate what is already available elsewhere.

was making the audience laugh.

      -Hi:

Vic and Sade's theme song (in later years) was a beautiful composition
written by Franz Liszt (so I'm told) entitled "Chanson Bohemmiene". It bears
an uncanny
likeness to Jan Peerce's (and Jimmy Durante's) "Bluebird of Happiness".
I wonder if anyone else shares my thought. Either way it was a perfect theme
for V & S. --

Yes, he did and I showed up. I'd only found out about it a few days before
but joined the rest of the crowd for an enjoyable couple of hours. As a 54
year old it was nice to be the young kid at an event for a change. He was
well received and I thought that the mix of original TV and radio content
worked well in the show. Since I was sitting in back I was one of the first
to reach the lobby and was surprised to find Eddie already there ready to
greet his fans. I did get to talk to him for a moment and found him very
warm and friendly.

Subject: Why the Chimes Rang

Around this time of year, many people trot out their
lists of favorite old time radio Christmas shows. I
would like to recommend one that may not be on
everyone's list: "Why the Chimes Rang" on "The Great
Gildersleeve." Whether you listen to the Harold Peary
version (Dec. 14, 1949) or the Willard Waterman
version (Dec. 20, 1950 or Dec. 19, 1951), you may well
be moved by this touching take.

Apparently, Moe was also a Hawaiian musician and singer. I have a one hour
radio show from last June where Moe was the topic. It concentrates mostly on
his musical talents but also gives some history of the man. The MC of the
show, Harry B. Soria, Jr knew the man personally.

This is a very good show.
It is hosted on [removed] <[removed]; and a new
streaming show comes out every Friday, focusing on the history of Hawaiian
music.

I have uploaded this show to mediamax (used to be streamload) and if
you would like a copy of this show just send a request to stevendom.

in 1978 radiola sold "a cross section of broadcasts originated by germany
and nazi sympathizers during the second world war."

my two record set includes a speech by hitler, a bund rally in new york
city, popular american music from berlin, propaganda from lord haw haw and
axis
sally and paul revere (douglas chandler), as well as a speech by robert best

Subject: Past Present and future and Radio Memories

On Fri, 15 Dec 2006 10:12:54 -0500Rodney Bowcock Said:

Radio Memories produced a good quality
product, and I have some pretty strong feelings about
the events in the hobby that helped lead to this
happening. I don't know, I guess this sort of thing
is what happens when people start expecting something
for nothing.

It's always sad when we in the hobby lose a great dealer. I don't know why Mr. Davenport is quitting, but
let's not forget that the cassette format is dying. It may not have as much to do with "people wanting
something for nothing" as you might think.
Cassettes were a great way to carry around and store our beloved OTR shows. Were is the thing, though.
Tape is getting more scarce, It'll probably get more expensive, and a good quality MP3 is sonicly better
than a fluttery old cassette and a machine that is going to get harder and harder to get parts for.
Formats come and go so "getting something for nothing" may not be the total reason for Radio Memories
leaving the business. CDR blanks are better quality and much cheaper than cassettes and like I said the
cassette is a dying media.
Add to that the popularity of MP3 players and you can see that financially the market is changing and it
could be for the better. I hate the crappy encoded MP3's out there, but if it was done correctly You'd have
better quality products than our dearly departing cassetts.
