About the Book
When Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve bade farewell to Fibber McGee and Molly
and left Wistful Vista on a train in 1941, no one could have predicted that
he would be riding the airwaves with his own new show until 1957. But when
one listens to episodes of radio's first spinoff, it becomes clear the The
Great Gildersleeve succeeded because its likable and amusing characters were
appealingly fallible, much like the folks each of us knew in our hometowns.
This book is a guide to more than 500 episodes of The Great Gildersleeve that
are in circulation and also to the scripts of 46 episodes for which no
recordings exist. Background on the development of the program is included,
and
the appendices include a list of episodes as well as information about cast
members, notable occurrences on the program, ratings, and the films and TV
series.
About the Author
Clair Schulz served as the archives director at the Museum of Broadcast
Communications and is the author of two books and numerous articles about
old-time radio and vintage films. He lives in Muskego, Wisconsin.

Hi, I have a radio show labeled (mislabeled?) as Call of the West, 42-04-25.
The New York Times lists a one time 30 minute show on that date called Call
of the West, a musical comedy.
What is strange is that the show I have 1) never calls itself Call of the
West, 2) Calls itself
The Roy Rogers Show (at the beginning and end), 3) a nationwide search of
newspaper articles from 1942 shows no use of the
phrase Call of the West, 4) at the end, the announcer says you can soon see
the guest Ellen Drew in the
movie, The Imposter (which apparently came out in 1944), 5) the show is only
15 minutes long. It also announces it is the Blue Network and it came from
Hollywood. Next week's guest is announced as Rita Hayworth.
I am guessing that this is an unaired audition show for the Roy Rogers Show
(with a fake mention of a next week's guest) and that there never
was a regular show called Call of the West. I am also guessing someone
created this date by finding the NYT listing and assuming
they must be the same show.
Does anyone have more information about this show?

Does any one know much about the Roy Rogers radio show? There are a few
scattered variety type shows from the WWII era out there. Then there is an
audition tape with Gabby Hayes from 1948. Then after that, there are a few
scattered shows until virtually everything from the 51 to 53 seasons is
available. Did Gabby Hayes do many shows or just the audition? Are there
other shows out there that exist but are not publicly available? Any info
anyone has would be useful.

I am looking to see if youhave access to "This is Your Life" Radio
series? I am looking for a copy of the 3rd radio show broadcast, I
believe, with Ada Nelligan (I know her great-grandchildren, who may be
my cousins). If you don't, would you happen to know where I could find
this? Thanks in advance for your reply!
