Subject: Spike Jones and "Der Fuehrer's Face"
Teachers of history might consider playing Spike Jones' "Der Fuehrer's
Face". I think that even for kids who didn't live during the time of WW2 the song
could be amusing and get their attention. As there are a number of
allusions to elements and situations extant during the war, it could be a starting
place to explore the issues.
There are also a number of renditions of "Der Fuehrer's Face" on YouTube to
view.
Wikopedia discusses the song in length. Some of what is said might actually
be true.

When I first heard the song I played it over and over because of its
cleverness. Another case of didn't I have something better to do with my time than
listen to that song?

Subject: Sonny Raley
Sonny Raley, a staple at the old-time radio conventions in Cincinnati and
Newark as a vendor specializing in autographs and old-time radio shows,
suffered a heart attack this weekend. His wife Helen said he is in the
University of Maryland Hospital. Fred Berney suggested it would probably be
better to send get well cards directly to his home, which I highly agree.
Over the weekend I purchased a book (short story collection) of ZORRO stories
as I knew full well that Sonny LOVES Zorro. I had the author autograph it to
Sonny and was planning to give the gift for Christmas. It will not become a
road-to-recovery present. If his good friends on the Digest could send well
wishes to help him on his road to recovery, that would be wonderful.
His address is Sonny Raley

Subject: Re: Recording OTR onto VHS Videotape
The "videoless" videotapes I filled with OTR programs continue to play very
well on all my subsequent machines.
Moreover, I loaned the tapes to a man most of us know, Prof. Joel
Senter, and they also played excellently for him. In fact, he re-recorded
many of the shows back onto regular audio cassettes.
One evening Dr. Senter was playing an exceptionally crisp-sounding OTR
cassette in his automobile and I asked him where he'd obtained the program.
His reply: "It came off one of your videotapes!"
Sincerely,
George Wagner
