Subject: Table Top Radio Followup
I received several ideas for listening to MP3 OTR at night all of which
are suggestions for alternative methods to a genuine table top style
radio that can play MP3 from a USB flash drive or an SD film chip.
I realize that an inexpensive solid state MP3 player can be used to
power a pair of spare computer speakers and I will try that.
Let me ask a different question: Is anyone using a Sony ZSRS60BT CD
Boombox for OTR? This model plays USB flash drives directly, but from
the specs seems limited to a minimum of 32 kbps MP3 files. I don't mind
resampling to make the files compatible. I like the feature that this
radio can be used as a Bluetooth speaker with a tablet or smart phone.
Lastly, is the radio reliable? Some reviewers claim the radio has a high
failure rate.
As a side note: I spent six weeks in hospital and cardiac rehab nursing
home following heart surgery a few months ago. I can't say enough good
for having Sirius XM radio on my iPhone. I played the Sinatra channel
all night long every night. If you have an all-access account, you can
use apps for tablets and smart phones to receive Sirius XM. The bit rate
can be set to three levels and at the lowest level uses about 1 GB of
data every 25 hours. So it helps to have Wi-Fi available when on an
extended stay away from home. There are free streaming services
including OTR programs at [removed] and [removed]
