Subject: Re: Bob Hope at Fort Belvoir

Andrew S. has done some fine 'detective' work in
trying to find the correct broadcast date for the
above 1953 show (Digest #143 - he listed five content
clues). I haven't heard the broadcast or seen its
script and can only add, at this time, that it should
help somewhat if you could find the exact date Mamie
Eisenhower was accepted as a member of the DAR (for
example in the NY Times Index, biography on Mamie,
Mamie Eisenhower Papers, Google searches, ....).

And I believe the BBC did a Barman miniseries a few years ago.

There's something about this concept I like. Especially by the BB C!

Subject: OTR Stars from Kenosha

On Monday, May 14, 2007, at 12:18 PM, Jack French wrote:

RG Productions of Kenosha, WI will sponsor another in their series of
public OTR events on Saturday, June 30, 2007. This one will be a
tribute to radio's lady detectives and will (with the permission of my
publisher) use the title of my book "Private Eyelashes" to caption this
affair. It will be held in the Kenosha Public Museum, located on the
shores of Lake Michigan.

Since this posting, it's been pointed out to me that Kenosha, WI is the
birthplace of several OTR stars. Orson Welles' birthplace is within
walking distance of the Kenosha Public Museum, where I will be speaking
on the history of lady detectives. The Ameche Brothers, Jim and Don,
also first saw the light of day in this lovely city on Lake Michigan.
Raymond Edward Johnson was born and raised in Kenosha before he went on
the everlasting fame at the radio microphone.

There may be even more Kenosha natives who became big in radio, but
we'll leave that up to Ron Sayles.

Subject: Advice on two Suspense books please?

I notice that there are two books covering the Suspense radio series - one
by Martin Grams Jr. and another by Darryl Shelton. I'm more familar with the
one by Martin but I have never heard of the other one until now. I'm on a
limited budget and I would like to buy a guide to Suspense, has anyone read
Mr Shelton's book and can they tell me how it compares to Mr Grams' book
please?

Many thanks,
Charles Salt

Subject: Dennis Jackson (aka Peter Tripp)

Dennis Jackson (aka deejay, Peter Tripp), owner of several small FMs
around the northeast, including WCLX [removed] in Westport, NY, was
seriously injured in a motorcycle accident in southern Utah on Friday
([removed]). He was airlifted to a hospital in Arizona where he is
presently in intensive care. His wife has asked that people refrain
from sending cards, flowers, etc., until he is safely out of the ICU.

Jay "Biggie" Fink is acting as intermediary between the family and
Dennis's large circle of friends in the broadcasting community, and
has promised further updates on Dennis's condition as it improves.

Thanks to Garrett Wollman at Boston Radio Interest for the post.
