The death of Norman Corwin at the age of 101 is sad news for all OTR fans and
historians. My 37-minute interview with him, recorded in his home on August
6, 1976 (when he was 66) may be heard anytime at [removed] Just
go to "Interviews" and click on "Norman Corwin." Mr. Corwin and I were among
the 1993 inductees to the Radio Hall of Fame. Chuck Schaden

In his recent post, our ever hard-working radio historian, Joe Mackey,
neglected to mention the name of the Westinghouse engineer, who in 1920 was
broadcasting music and words from his garage in Wilkinsburg, PA. Therefore, it
allows me to mention his name. Dr. Frank Conrad. It also gives me an
opportunity, with Charlie's permission, to shamelessly plug my forthcoming
book,
Radio Pro (How to be a real air personality-BearManor Media) In Chapter
1, Learn from the Masters, there is a detailed account of how Dr. Frank
obtained records for his broadcasts from the Hamilton Music store in
Wilkinsburg. In exchange for the records, he gave the music store on-air
mentions.
Thereby, Dr. Conrad gave the world one of radio's first advertisers, and by
spinning the records on his program became one of radio's first dee-jays.
