Joe Mackey <joemackey108@[removed]; notes,
1938 Captain Midnight was heard on radio for the first time, on
Mutual. The Captain flew his single engine plane all over the place
fighting crime.
The /Captain Midnight/ adventure serial was originally a syndicated
program, sponsored by Skelly Oil, which also sponsored other
aviation-themed radio serials. Skelly owned Spartan Aircraft, which
manufactured airplanes, and ran a flight school.
/Captain Midnight/ ran for two seasons under Skelly Oil sponsorship, and
then was picked up by Ovaltine for the Fall of 1940. The
Ovaltine-sponsored version had the title character recruited by a US
Government official to head an organization to fight espionage and
sabotage within the United States. The new organization, the Secret
Squadron, was featured through the rest of the programs duration, through
1949.

Subject: Ken Nordine on Destination Freedom
Folks;
(Sorry about monopolizing the Digest [removed])
I'm wondering if anyone here has any information about Ken Nordine (he of
Word Jazz fame) performing on the Richard Durham-penned Destination Freedom
program. Someone asked about the connection through the Bob Edwards website,
and I couldn't find any listing in the credits for Nordine in the 75-ish
programs I have. But since not everything survived of either version of the
program, that doesn't mean he didn't perform on the program.

Subject: Fred Foy Memoir
Folks;
Received information today from Wendy Foy, daughter of announcer, actor,
and friend Fred Foy about an awesome fundraiser to put together a museum
display of Fred's history in radio, and The Lone Ranger program in
particular. A book authored by Fred is being made availabe in a very limited
numbered and signed (by Wendy) First Edition for a donation to The Wabash
County Museum. You can get complete details, and see the First Edition's
cover, at:
