Well actually there have already been three motion pictures about her
[removed] three perfectly dreadful and as contrary to facts as
Hollywood has ever been. She was the central character in a 1945 movie,
"Tokyo Rose" and a supporting character in two others: a John Wayne
1965 film, "In Harm's Way," as well as a 1950 British flic called "Into
the Wild Blue." In all three, she was a sultry, seductive temptress of
American military boys.
However a new film is in the works, with key production people who will
insure historical accuracy. Lead producer is Barbara Trembley, a friend
of Iva's, and the director will be Frank Darabont, known for his work
on "The Shawshank Redemption." Darkwoods Productions obtained complete
access from Iva to all her pertinent archives earlier this year. The
film will also highlight the decade-long efforts of her attorney Wayne
Collins, who eventually secured a pardon for her from the White House.

Can anyone tell me if they have a similar recollection and, if so,
what show it

Greetings, gates!
Allow me to articulate.
I am visiting my very first FOTR in a few weeks and I am looking forward to
meeting many of you for the very first time, also.
I hope to have the time to meet and greet all of you, but I am curious about
some of your feelings as previous attendees of the FOTR convention. How was
it? What was your overall feeling about it? What can I expect?
Let me know either through this digest or email me directly. Either way, I am
looking forward to hearing from you.
Anxious,
Randy Story

amongst all the danged yankees and sample FOTR)

Kay Lots says she is surprised that Maisie isn't better Known. Maisie Had a
little over a 2 year run of the syndicate series (11/24/49 to 12/31/51) .. I
never heard the program until the 1970's because in years that her series
was broadcast on Mutual, I was looking at TV and not listening to radio. TV
was really great, in those days, we watched anything and every thing.
Tuesday at 7:00 PM Central Time the world came to a stop to watch "The
Texaco Start Theater" (AKA the Milton Berle Show). What crazy costume would
Milty wear coming through the audience to the stage.
In the late 40's and 50's we, who had TV, sat in front of the TV set and
had our dinner. The TV dinner was invented and we ate of TV tables. We even
had TV time Popcorn that was easy and fast to prepare, so we never missed a
minute of TV.
I was married in 1951 and had a nice apartment and no TV. So the first thing
we bought was a 16" TV for $[removed], no color in 1951, just Black and white.
We didn't own a radio. Like most people we were hooked and fascinated by TV.
So Radio Programs Like Adv. of Maize, Have Gun will Travel and others of
that era were entertainment for people in Areas with no TV. Sponsors like
Kraft, Cigarettes companies, Hallmark, Soap & food Companies and other major
companies moved their advertising dollars away from Radio to the new media
Television. I f you notice radio had many various sponsor,

John Dunning calls Maisie OTR show and movies B-fare but to me it was a
showcase for the talent of Ann Sothern and have enjoyed listening to the
Maisie shows since our local radio stations never broadcast it when it was

Subject: Re: Rocky Fortune
I don't know for sure but I suspect money may have been a motivating
factor in Sinatra's doing the "Rocky Fortune" series. The same month
that the program debuted (October '53), the singer won approval for a
Nevada gambling license, having bid $54,000 for a percentage of the
Sands Hotel. But the Associated Press reported later that month, in a
story datelined Carson City, NV, that Sinatra "explained in an
appearance before the [Nevada state] tax commission that he is $90,000
behind on his federal income tax." (31 October 1953 Chicago Tribune)
With the same dateline, United Press reported that Sinatra "told the
commission he still owes the Federal government $90,000 in back income
taxes, which he is paying off at the rate of $1000 a week when he
works. Originally, he said, he owed approximately $160,000." (31
October 1953 Los Angeles Times)
Sinatra also began his twice-weekly NBC music series, "To Be Perfectly
Frank," shortly after "Rocky Fortune" premiered.
Sinatra was presumably not making a lot of money from his film career
which was at a low ebb in 1953 when he famously took a pay cut to land
the role of Maggio in "From Here to Eternity" (for which he won an
Oscar) . The film was in release just before and during the "Rocky
Fortune" series and Rocky sometimes uses the expression "from here to
eternity." So good old-fashioned self- and/or cross-promotion could
also have been a factor in Sinatra's doing the show.
Or maybe Frankie just dug those kooky Ernest Kinoy/George Lefferts
scripts.
Initially, NBC announced that Sinatra's dramatic vehicle would be
something called "Frankie Galahad, Private Eye" (or "Frank Galahad,"
depending on the newspaper).
Judging from all the [removed] actors in the series' cast lists, I'd
guess "Rocky Fortune" was transcribed in [removed] The 23 January 1954 Los
Angeles Times reports on an auto accident involving Sinatra:
***
Sinatra was en route from his Westwood apartment at 10372 1/2 Wilshire
Blvd. to the National Broadcasting Co. Studio in Hollywood where he
was scheduled to record the "Rocky Fortune" radio show. ...
Officials at NBC called Sinatra's home when he was 45 minutes late for
his recording date and they were unable to locate him. He arrived at
the studio later in the afternoon. ...

Subject: Encyclopaedia of Australian Radio Shows
Database
G'Day folks,
The Encyclopaedia of Australian Radio Shows database (EARSdb) has now been
released. It can be ordered at [removed]
The Encyclopaedia is on DVD (5 CD version on request) for installation on MS
Windows based computers. Sorry MAC owners at this stage. There is a
possibility there could be a MAC version if we get enough enquiries.
EARSdb is the beginning of our attempt to document Australian Radio Shows
from the 1920's to 1960's.
We will be adding a section for [removed] and [removed] produced programs broadcast in
Australia.
Currently EARSdb contains:
Over 5,700 Series/Serials/Plays documented (we expect to increase this to
possibly 8,000+ we already have over 1,000 ready to add)
Over 1900 People and 24,000 characters documented
Over 17,000 episodes logged
Over 2,000 Pictures and scanned magazine ads
Most Australian Radio Production Houses of the era or subsequent owners, are
in partnership in the project and we have licenced a representative episode
of each of their productions to be included as representative episodes.
Currently we have included 350 episodes which equates to approximately 104
hours of listening. Our aim is over 1,000 Series/Serials/Plays represented
by complete episodes.
It is our intention to continue to provide updates on a regular basis.
Purchase of the DVD does include the next 3 updates for just the postage and
handling costs of AU$[removed] People who are actively assisting the project
with information or recordings also receive a further 3 updates (total of 6)
for just the postage and handling costs of AU$[removed]
We will be supplying a regular newsletter advising of new finds and new
information. There is still a lot more work to be done on the website, but
we felt it was time to let people know about the project and our aims.
We hope to raise awareness of the rich heritage of Australian Radio, as well
as to let people know that we are looking for copies of documents and
recordings to include in EARSdb. Already, descendants of people involved in
Australian radio have come forward to offer photos and documents so that
their family involvement can be documented. The newsletters will also cover
those stories.
Many people in this group have supplied me with recordings, as well as
questions that made me undertake the research which led to my obsession with
documenting Australian radio Shows. Moris Sztajer has designed the database
and website as well as conducting the lions share of the institutional
research. The major Australian Transcription collectors, have been generous
with supplying their time and episodes. Magazine Publishers have given
permission for their magazines to be scanned and images included.
Production Houses and copyright Holders have given their permissions for
episodes to be included. In fact, only one Production House has withheld
permission. I will not name them as I am still hopeful they will join the
project. The National Film and Sound Archives (NFSA) are also partners in
the project along with the Australian Broadcasting Commission.
There are many Australian recordings held in the [removed] We are happy to trade
or purchase. We do not necessarily require the Discs themselves, good audio
copies are what we need.
All in all it is a great project with a pile of shareholders and I am
pleased to announce [removed] ready to go!
