The Adventures in Research Episode #95 dated November 21, 1944 appears
in some logs under the name "The History Of The First Regular Radio
Broadcast." I have this episode in my collection with the title "Eyes
and Ears for the Millions" which was the name given to this show by Dr.
Phillips Thomas, the Westinghouse Research Scientist featured in this
episodes 95 and 96. If anyone would like a copies of these programs,

1948 The Voice of Firestone was one of the first commercial radio
programs to be carried simultaneously on both AM and FM radio stations.

Before long, it was on AM, FM, and television. I remember discovering
it on radio while it was on TV and thinking something had gone wrong
with my radio. In fact, it was on two different radio stations. I
believe the show was on CBS at the time, and WROW, the CBS radio
affiliate in the Albany area (where we lived at the time) didn't have an
FM outlet. So WGY, the NBC station carried it, and since they didn't do
separate FM programs, they carried it on both WGY and WGFM.

It always bothers me when these references refer to Truth or
Consequences as a quiz show. It wasn't. The questions were
grade-school-level riddles, designed not to be answered by the
contestants. The point of the show was the "consequence" that had been
devised for the contestant, usually some sort of stunt and often a prank
of some sort that was unknown to the contestant, but was disclosed to
the audience before the contestant even came out. They were already
assuming that the contestant wouldn't be able to answer the question,
and they were right. The one occasion I saw the contestant actually
answer the question, the host (by this time Bob Barker) said he had just
gotten a signal from the control room that he had asked the wrong
question and asked another one.

Some examples of "questions" asked:

Q. What is a paradox?
A. Two doctors.

Q. What do a girl preparing to go to the beach and a man figuring out
his income taxes have in common?
A. They both take off as much as the law will allow.

Q. What do an elephant and a clam have in common?
A. Neither can ride a bicycle.

Not a quiz show.

1944 WQXR in New York City, owned by The New York Times newspaper,
banned singing commercials from its airwaves as of this day.
Understandable, since the station has always been the classical music
voice of Manhattan and there aren't many classical singing commercials.

The Geno's Pizza roll commercial with the William Tell Overture and the
Lone Ranger?

EDDIE HUBBARD SPECIAL WITH SONGS OF SPRING

"Spring is Here," as Carly Simon declares on her recording on Eddie
Hubbard's Special from 1990 featuring songs of spring. Other spring
songs are performed by artists like the Ink Spots, the Mills Brothers,
the Platters, Russ Morgan and the Ames Brothers, Perry Como, Evelyn
Knight, Nat King Cole, the Four Freshmen, Count Basie, and Mel Torme.

Examples of super recordings are "Queen of the Senior Prom," "Graduation
Day," "A Little Bird Told Me," "It Might As Well Be Spring," "Blue
Gardenia," "April Showers," "Everything's Coming Up Roses," and, one of
my Mother's fondest favorites, "Red Sails in the Sunset."

In Perry Como's "Songs I Love" from 1963 he addresses his true love as
he sings of "tender melodies" that echo experiences "that make [them]
cling together" and that help them "face the years" together. In
contrast, Eddie's last song stretches the implications of the meaning of
true love more than a bit, namely, "All the Girls I've Loved Before,"
with Willie Nelson and Julio Iglesias. In their words they sing of girls
traveling "in and out [their] doors," but it is a well-written and
pretty song and, of course, sung well.

It's truly a pleasure and an honor to play the wonderful radio work of
my late friend Eddie Hubbard who touched the lives of so many performers
in the music world. Eddie began his career at Chicago radio stations and
ended with the ABC Radio Network on hundreds of stations and a local
station in Dallas. He was a performer, actor, emcee, interviewer, and
script writer for TV shows like "Love, American Style." He especially
loved music of the 1940's and 1950's, was a personal friend and help to
many performers and began the famous radio Browsers shows. He was
responsible for my amateur "audition" on his show and therefore for my
modest future shows on streaming internet radio which have brought much
joy to me following retirement after some 40 years as a professor. As a
radio DJ, Eddie brought great joy to millions of fans (Hubbard's
Clubbers) as he demonstrated class and integrity, smooth
professionalism, and a vast knowledge of the big bands and performers.
Eddie was more than a friend. He was one of my heroes.

Subject: Whistler Show

Hello,

I am trying to locate a episode of The Whistler I heard a long time ago but
cannot remember the title or broadcast date.

The plotline concerns a woman who is romantically involved with a young man
who wants to stop seeing her as result of pressure from his older brother.
The woman kills him. Later she gets a phone call from the older brother who
is at his brothers apartment and knows she did it. He tells her he is not
gonna involve the police but take care of her himself. The woman flees the
city. Toward the end of the show she is on a train moving from car to car to
elude a man she thinks is following her at the behest of the older brother.
Finally, he catches her in one other train car's but she pulls a gun from her
purse and kills him. It turns he was a cop that was looking for someone else.

Does anyone know what episode this is?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
