Subject: Don Quinn

Has anyone heard the 1950 interview of Don Quinn, the brilliant writer of
Fibber McGee and Molly and later The Halls of Ivy?
It was done by a local Honolulu station, handled, unfortunately, by one of
those stuffy old time announcers who was a big HOI fan but hadn't done much
homework about Quinn so there were only brief mentions of FMM. Still, a
fascinating glimpse at the world of radio program writing with one of the
masters. Also a brief mention of the 'red-baiting' era of the time, with
Quinn, an old radio writers guild member, angrily responding to a charge by
Sen. Pat McCarran, a 'Joe McCarthy-lookalike' that the radio writers guild
was 'red dominated.'

Also recently found two interesting links regarding this great show. One, by
a relative of writer Don Quinn's childhood friend, includes letters from
Quinn to his grandfather and other reminisences:

Hello again --
Has anybody suggested setting Giddins straight on his misguided comments
about Jack Benny and OTR in general? You can write to his agent, Ms. Lee
Rothchild, at leerothchild@[removed] who may forward your note to him. If
the Digest was arranged like most blogs, it would be possible to send her
the whole thread of this discussion (but don't get me wrong; such a blog
format would make it nearly impossible to identify the new submissions each
day, and I much prefer the current and original format).
