Halloween in quickly approaching and so is the anniversary of the famous
Mercury Theater rendition of War of the Worlds. For a humorous and nostalgic
tale inspired by the famous Orson Welles broadcast, I invite you to go to my
on-line novel THE WISTFUL RADIO CHRONICLES to enjoy an epic saga wherein our
heroic protagonist, inspired by the Welles radio prank, attempts his own
Halloween alien invasion prank with spectacular results. It is called THE
HALLOWEEN HOAXERS MEET ORSON WELLES, and can be found at

While there, feel free to look around at my other stories inspired by Old
Time Radio, such as THE SAGA OF THE MARATHON FIVE DAY MONOPOLY GAME, inspired
by Fibber McGee and Molly, THE FLIM-FLAMMED SIBLING STRIKES BACK, inspired by
Inner Sanctum, BULLDOG O'HARA vs THE ADOLESCENT CRIMEBUSTER, inspired by
Gangbusters, and others.
Thanks for looking.

Subject: The Glowing Dial LIVE Halloween Show!
Hello OTR friends:
Just wanted to invite you all to listen to our first Glowing Dial LIVE
Halloween show this Sunday, October 30th from 4pm to approx. 11:30 pm EST.
The longer running time is so that, after the LIVE portion, we can present
our 2003 War Of The Worlds Tribute show.
The Tribute will include the Mercury Theatre original (timed to hit at 8pm
EST as it did 78 years ago), some interviews with Orson Welles and company,
the excellent WKBW, Buffalo remake plus our own
tongues-planted-firmly-in-cheek version of the classic radio play.
The LIVE portion of the show will feature myself and my co-hosts Stu and Greg
(and even a few friends thrown in for good measure).
We'll be playing some spooky old time radio shows, reading a few spooky poems
and sharing some of our spooky but real stories.
We invite you, our listeners to call in and share some of your ghostly
goings-on as well.
You can Skype us by searching for The Glowing Dial LIVE and adding us to your
list of contacts or you can simply phone us at 248-221-2011.
Please remember to only Skype or call during LIVE show times and wait until
we "open the Skype/phone lines" before calling.
We'll even have a trivia question (not too difficult). Be the first one to
answer the question either via Skype, phone or our chat room and you will win
a nifty Horror and Suspense OTR Sampler (about 15 shows) on a convenient USB
flash drive! Of course, if you're the winner, we'll need you to e-mail us
with your
mailing address so we can get your prize out to you.
You can hear the show by going to [removed] where
there is an embedded player.
You can alternately go to our Mixlr LIVE Page at [removed]
to hear the show there.
Just sign in at our Mixlr LIVE Page and you can join us in the chat room
while the show is on.
The fun all starts at 4pm EST!
Hope to see you all on the radio!
Best to all, Big John Matthews

1931 Myrt and Marge was heard for the first time on CBS. The program
centered on two chorus girls who competed for the same parts and the
same men. The creator and writer (Cliff Thomas wrote some) of the
series, Myrtle Vail, also played the role of Myrt; and the original
Marge was performed by Vail's daughter, Donna Fick. Three other
performers played the part when Donna died giving birth. Myrt and Marge
continued for 11 years.

1934 The first broadcast of The Gumps was heard on CBS. Wilmer Walter
played Andy Gump, Agnes Moorehead was Gump's wife, Min, and Jackie Kelk
was son, Chester. Karo syrup and Pebico toothpaste/tooth powder sponsored.
1950 "The greatest stars of our time on one big program" was the
introduction by actress Tallulah Bankhead, who opened the 90 minute Big
Show on NBC. It was a big show all right. The peacock saw red as losses
exceeded a million dollars ($9,948,942 in 2015 dollars) in the three
years the program was on the air.
