Subject: Herb Ellis on Those Were the Days
This Saturday, "Those Were the Days" is pleased to put the spotlight on
actor/writer/director Herb Ellis, as we share our 2011 conversation with Mr.
Ellis and feature four samples of his radio work: as an actor on "Dragnet,"
"Broadway Is My Beat" and "The Adventures of Nero Wolfe" and as the author of
"Jason and the Golden Fleece." We're pleased to honor this veteran broadcaster
and we hope you'll join us on Saturday from 1 to 5 pm CST at WDCB ([removed] FM for
you Chicago-area folk, [removed] everywhere).

Good Afternoon Fellow Digesters,
I tend to listen to a lot of Podcasts on my iPod and I ran across tis guy a
couple of weeks back who Podcasts Jack Benny Shows.
His 'handle' is BuckBenny and is gimmick seems to be that he tries to release
programs that were broadcast at the current time of the year ([removed] New Years,
January) from exactly 60 and 65 years ago. For example he just podcasted the
Rose Bowl tickets episode from the 1947-1948 season.
The other interesting thing that this guys does is that he puts his own
commentary at the beginning of the episode. So you find out any relevant
current events references that as a background to the program. He also gives
some interesting info on what the actors were doing in their careers when the
particular episode was broadcast (for example, Eddie Anderson was doing a lot
of movies that year)
Sometimes he pulls in other radio shows as well like Fibber McGee, Gunsmoke,
and Dennis Day.
Has anyone else run across this?

[removed] I am not affiliated with Buck Benny, receive payment from him, nor
endorse his effort - I just ran across him and found his effort interesting
:-)

I received a book on comic book advertisements for Christmas, and enjoyed
very much looking at the photos of mail-away products from my childhood. Can
anyone recommend a similar book about radio premiums? I'm particularly
interested in one that has good photographs.
Thanks!

I received the following e-mail from Kerry at kerrychrysiliou@[removed]. Can
anyone help Kerry?
Dear Martin
I am trying to locate a recording made of a radio broadcast, possibly
CBS, where a young British actress, June Bevis, read a script 'Total
War', prepared by the British Information Service. The Vice President,
Henry Wallace, was on the same programme. Can you give me any clue as
to how I might track this down?
Kind regards,
Kerry
