This is just a reminder that the "Lum and Abner" comic strip is still being
published every Sunday at this address:
[removed]

We just started a new series, "Rags to Radio."

With each strip comes an audio adaptation. I started these for our many blind
friends, but everyone is welcome to listen.

Thanks to everyone who has visited, read, listened, and commented. I hope to
improve as time passes and offer a better product for your entertainment.

I believe the Jack Webb show that Paula Keiser is looking for is the Escape
broadcast from 8/11/47 called "The Ring of Thoth"

Paula Keiser asks,

I want to show a friend that Webb did, indeed, do something other than
Joe Friday on radio. Can anyone tell me the series name and title of
the show?

One was "Pete Kelly's Blues," set in the Prohibition era. A film was
made of it, and unless one's heard the OTR show, the theme music, etc. is
overdone.
The other was "Pat Novak For Hire," a really interesting detective
pulp-fiction program, with beautiful purple prose. I confess it's one of
my favorite continuing-character half-hour evening shows.

Subject: Sgt. Preston name

Joseph Ross asked about Sgt. Preston's first name and where it came from. I
don't know if this is definitive, but there was a series of 15 minute
special Challenge of the Yukon episodes released in the early 1950's, one of
which tells of the sergeant's promotion after tracking down the killer of
his father. Paul Sutton casually introduces himself to a character in the
story as Bill Preston.

Subject: Jack Webb as an immortal

I can't help you with the immortal Jack Web, but two less-than-obvious
examples of Webb's range of work are the "Operation Fleur de Lys" episode of
Escape, and the (in my opinion pretty bad) The Jack Webb Show.

That sounds like one of the early episodes of Escape in 1947. I'm not
near a log to confirm but I'm guessing it's the show. Something to do
with Egypt . . . Well it's been awhile.
