I had the greatest pleasure talking with Eddie for a full hour of my radio
program three or four years ago. He was beyond talented and gracious, and I
took my daughter, then aged eight, to see him perform as Jack Benny (she's a
fan).

We spent time talking back and forth AS Bill and Benny, then as Bill and
Eddie, and he would be quick, energetic and talented at both. I treasure the
liner he cut for me as Jack.

After his performance, he insisted that I bring my daughter to the reception
afterwards at a local after-hours restaurant. Eddie clearly loved all his
fans, regardless of age, and I'll never forget him.

There's a nice article about Eddie in Sunday's Los Angeles Times:

I was fortunate to see Eddie's performance as Jack Benny at the Ritz
theater in Tiffin Oh. As we were leaving I saw Mr Carroll standing
in the lobby. I regret that I did not attempt to talk to him at that
time, but at least I did have the chance to see his performance.

I was saddened to hear recently of the loss of actor John Forsythe.
Although I'm too young to remember him as "Bachelor Father", I do seem
to remember him in what I consider to be the most creepy movie of all
time, "Madame X" with Lana Turner.

He had a style and sophistication in his acting which made him
memorable.
He was truly one of the best actors (IMHO) which ever lived and will be sadly
missed.

His work on shows such as "Dynasty" and his unseen, but always heard,
role in the groundbreaking series "Charlie's Angels" will be remembered for
many years.

As always,

Kenneth Clarke
