Adding to Larry Moore's comments on their "No-Singing Commercial" policy, when
other stations were airing the "43 Beans In Every Cup of New Nescafe" jingle,
the ad agency created a Baroque instrumental version especially for QXR, "The
Sonata For Forty-Three Beans".

Subject: Mythical newspaper?
Jim Cox wrote of Richard Widmark:
As David Farrell, the part he may be best tied to on the airwaves, he was an
ace reporter for the mythical Brooklyn Eagle.
Are you sure it was mythical? I've done OTR research in the radio pages of
the Brooklyn Eagle and it seemed pretty real to me :)
Actually, the paper had a run of over a hundred years. The Brooklyn Daily
Eagle was published from 1849 to 1938, then they dropped the Daily and
continued (not always as a daily) to 1963.

Subject: I'm also looking for info on an actress
As long as a few others mentioned radio personalities they were looking for,
let me add mine. For years a story has been told about a great-aunt of mine
who was supposedly in radio. I know she lived in the New York area. Her
brother, Joesph Tebeau, was an editor for the New York Times (note: AN
editor, not THE editor.) My great-aunt's name was Marguerite Tebeau. Of
course, she could have acted on radio under a different name. Has anyone
ever come across this person in their research?

Subject: Preston Tucker and Drew Pearson
Well I hope I spelled the names right to begin with, but I'm sure folks on
this list will figure them out even if I didn't.
I was watching The movie about Preston Tucker, the ill fated car
manufacturer, last night.
At one point they mentioned and played a reenacted excerpt from a Drew
Pearson news broadcast where he talked about Tucker and his problems. Any
chance anyone would know of this or have it? I'd love to hear it if it
exists.
Any other Tucker radio news blurbs would be great as well.
If anyone would know, the folks on this list would.
Thanks for any help.

The eminent Jim Cox commented on Richard Widmark's role in Front Page
Farrell:
As David Farrell, the part he may be best tied to on the airwaves, he
was an ace reporter for the mythical Brooklyn Eagle.
Though I am sure his intentions referred only to the radio program, the
Brooklyn Eagle was not "mythical." There was in fact a Brooklyn Eagle -
a newspaper through which [removed] Kaltenborn among others cut their
journalistic teeth.

Subject: Re: Jack Benny
Hello again --
I missed several posts during February -- Jack Benny month -- and don't know
if anyone has ever called OTRers attention to the number of clips with Jack
that have shown up on YouTube: he appears there with Rochester, Mel Blanc,
Frank Nelson, and others from his radio and television shows, but my
favorite -- one of the funniest -- is the guest appearance of Groucho Marx.
If you have high speed access, you can catch this clip at

Enjoy!
