Subject: The Report of this Death is greatly Exaggerated!

From: Art Chimes

Radio drama died about 50 years ago ... Himan Brown, though,
refused to go to the funeral.

Dear Art (& co.)-
Oh Lord, here we go again. Attention: please listen closely:

RADIO DRAMA IS NOT DEAD.

Can I get a "amen" here? Barbara? Christian? Martin? Steve? Jack?
Part of the problem is the SELF-CREATED funeral of the medium, by business,
art, & broadcast entities that should, & could, nourish this "body" - instead
of simply proclaiming it a "corpse". The medium, as a medium, is still viable
- and capable, in caring hands, of doing vibrant work.
Angrily,
Craig Wichman

Subject: Today in radio history

From Those Were The Days --

1935 - The O'Neills debuted on CBS. The theme song, Londonderry Air,
opened the 15-minute soap opera. The O'Neills aired Mondays, Wednesdays
and Fridays at 7:30 [removed] In 1936 it moved to daytime where it stayed
until 1943 on NBC's Red and Blue networks and on CBS, too. One of
radio's original soaps, it was sponsored appropriately by Silver Dust,
Ivory soap and Ivory soap flakes.

1935 - Wedding bells pealed for a singer and a bandleader who tied the
knot, making radio history together. The bandleader was Ozzie Nelson and
the singer was Harriet Hilliard. They would make the history pages again
on this very day -- nine years later.

1944 - The first broadcast of The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet was
heard on the CBS network.

Does anyone on this list have any experience
with the Apple [removed] version 10Gig, 20 Gig

I have had the 10 gig IPOD for a year. I bought it especially for OTR
and it works better than any other device I have seen. It is stable
and plays low bitrates. Designed primarily for audio unlike the
Archos, it is the best mp3 player on the market. It also plays the
new mp4 technology which is a lossless compression to a point. Jeff

Subject: Apple Ipod experience

First of all I must say I have no connection with Apple or Best Buy.

Now, I love my 30GB Ipod. I previously had an Archos Jukebox which was good
when
it worked. However the Ipod is wonderful! It takes a fraction of the time to
load
it using Firewire rather than USB which the Archos unit used. It has a large,
easily-readable screen which provides useful info. The unit is very easy to
use.
It offers true resume. When it is turned off and back on, it picks up exactly
where it left off.

I haven't discovered any mp3 settings it won't play, however I haven't
experimented with it. It recharges through the Firewire cable whenever it is
attached to a Macintosh computer. (I'm not sure about when it is attached to a
Windoze box.)

It offers contact and calendar modules for use as a PDA (I haven't used this
yet).
It does have some anti-piracy features built-in. These can be a little
annoying.
Overall it is wonderful.

When my Archos unit quit working for the last time, Best Buy allowed the entire
purchase price to be applied to the Ipod. I'm so glad I bought the extended
warranty.

In short, it's small, lightweight, easy to use and a delight to have. Highly
recommended.

Michael
