X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: Alternative section used was text/plain

I have not seen the Green Hornet movie, but I wonder about the music. Someone
stated that the music used was "horrible" or something like that.

It would have been quite easy to use the original music since most of it is in
public domain. There may have been a few items composed especially for it, as
in The Lone Ranger. I don't have a program handy, but I recall hearing a
portion of Stravinskii's Firebird, and the usual overtures, Dona Diana, etc.

Subject: Flo Gibson and New York Times use of the world
 "serial"

Today's New York Times has an obit for Flo Gibson, who is primarily known as
a reader for audio books, but who also has an OTR connection. The Times obit
includes the following paragraph:

"She acted in several West Coast radio serials - including "Pat Novak for
Hire," which starred a young Jack Webb - before marrying Carlos Gibson, a
Peruvian diplomat, and raising four children."

Again the word "serial" when series is meant. I noticed this is the review of
the current Green Hornet film and I see that has been mentioned here. I
wonder if the Times has some sort of stylistic rule on this?

The obituary for Ms. Gibson is here:

Subject: Fran Striker gets no credit

Rob Chatlin asked:

As the credits roll at the end of the movie, it says clearly "based on the
RADIO program". It also mentions the original creator of the series George
W. Trendle. I was delighted to see this when I watched it this morning.

Is there any mention or credit for Fran Striker?
Or is the radio equivalent of Stan Lee & Jack Kirby ?

Rob, there's a long story behind this (too much to type in a posting but it can be found in the GREEN HORNET
book Terry and I wrote). Long story short, Striker was a "writer-for-hire" so Trendle took credit for
creating the series. Striker never argued, because he wanted the paychecks to keep coming. THE LONE RANGER,
for example, Striker signed a contract to Trendle for the rights to everything he created -- THE LONE RANGER,
WARNER LESTER and THRILLS OF THE SECRET SERVICE for a small fee. It became a Trendle exclusive. Years later,
with more money than he knew what to do with, Trendle had Striker sign another contract. For $200, Striker
signed an agreement that as of then, no matter what, Trendle was to take credit for creating THE LONE RANGER.
Heck, if I had more billions than I knew what to do with, I myself might pay Marvel, Kirby and Lee to be
able to legally claim I created SPIDER-MAN. Anyway, since then, Trendle claimed creatorship. This has been
verified (I even have a copy of the contracts that were signed). Every time Trendle licensed anything related
to THE GREEN HORNET or THE LONE RANGER, he had a clause to stipulate he was to be credited on screen as the
creator. TV shows, movies, etc. Still goes on today. Historians know the truth, because the contracts
exist. However, for all intents and purposes Fran Striker is not credited as the creator.

Off the side, in the past two years I wrote a small booklet and a magazine article for two different companies,
about THE LONE RANGER and GREEN HORNET and each write-up caused a minor "issue" because I documented what I stated above.
Today, the parties that own the rights to both properties still insist NOTHING go to print to state Fran Striker's
involvement beyond being a "writer for hire." The property owners had reviewed my write-ups after licensing permission
for the products and magazine, and they disapproved of what I wrote. For one write-up I suggested they remove the
paragraphs stating Fran Striker as the creator, so the rest of the piece I wrote could run as it was and not cause an issue,
and the matter was promptly resolved. The other caused me to lose a writing job because, as it was told to me by a third person
later on, I was causing problems the magazine editor didn't want to deal with. I can understand the magazine editor's situation,
having paid the copyright holders for permission to feature an article about the radio program, and not wanting to piss off the
copyright holders soon after the agreement was signed. But the amusing part of the story? An OTR author called me up and quizzed me
on information about a radio program a couple months ago. Just this week I got a copy of the magazine, the latest issue, and it
seems that author wrote an article about the show -- which explains why he called me. Seems I was "unofficially" a consultant
for the magazine, but "officially" no longer an author of their magazine articles. I wonder if the editor knows this?

When the closing credits of the movie cited George W. Trendle as the creator, this came as no surprise. If the new
LONE RANGER movie goes into production, I have no doubt it'll say the same.
