Subject: 20 Years of Discovery
On Sunday, November 26, 2006, at 09:54 PM, Andrew Godfrey wrote:
Most of all I would like to know if any shows that had no existing
episodes previously available to the public have been discovered in
the last 20 years.
Yes.
And if your next request is a listing of all these programs, you're
asking us to write a book, since it would encompass thousands of
programs from hundreds of series. But to save us from breaking down
Charlie's site, I'd advise Andrew, if he is really serious about
learning the answer, to get a money order for $ 56. That will cover
the cost plus S & H for Jay Hickerson's "Third Revised Ultimate History
of Network Radio Programming and Guide to ALL Circulating Shows." (And
for another five bucks, Jay will send you the Oct 2006 supplement to
this book, just so Andrew will also know what discoveries occurred in
2006.)

Subject: You Bet Your Life
I've been looking at shows on the DVD of the "Lost Episodes" of You
Bet Your Life. In a number of shows in the mid-1950s, George
Fenniman at the end mentions that Groucho is on television every
Thursday night and on radio every Wednesday night. Then he said,
"and don't miss the big Chrysler Corporation TV show on another
network."
Anyone know what that show was?

Subject: RE: Hooper, Nielson ratings
Hello.
I am doing a paper on radio programming, specifically post-war detective
programs, and I would like to find complete Hooper and Nielson ratings of
radio shows. I have lists of the top twenties from 1945 - 56, but my
understanding is that complete lists do not exist, that they were released
only to subscribers. Are they available somewhere? I am relatively new to
this list so I don't know if this topic was discussed earlier.

Subject: "lost" Fibber McGee?
The recent discovery of lost Fibber McGee and Molly
shows give me hope that one day someone will open up
a drum barrel and out will pour lost Amos and Andy,
lost Vic and Sade or lost Blondie episodes.
While I don't want your point to be lost with this
information, I feel the need to point out that the
recent 15 minute Fibber McGee & Molly episodes that've
been released by First Gen were not lost. They've
been circulating in poorer quality versions for some
time. If you're a fan of the show, the set is still
worth having for the improved sound quality, but
there's a chance that these "lost" episodes are simply
upgrades to what is already in your collection.
I've discovered a few uncirculated Vic & Sade eps in a
private collection, but I don't have access to
actually hear them. My search for that particular
show carries [removed]

Subject: Car MP3
This is from Michael J. Emry of Tokyo, Japan who once subscribed to
this list but can no longer due to it no longer going to the Far East.
I have been reading in the OTR Digest about the use of mp3 players in
the car.
I have not noticed, but maybe you have seen some mention of the fact
that 20 makes, Ford, GM, Honda, Nissan, Mercedes, Jeep, Dodge,
Jaguar, Ferrari, Infiniti, Mazda, Mini, Scion, Suzuki, Volvo,
Volkswagon have either iPod specific or mp3 player connections as
options or standard in recent models. Some like Nissan allow
controlling the iPod directly from the car's stereo controls.
Also Alpine, Blitzsafe, Clarion, Kenwood, Dension, Harmond Kardon,
Monster, Pioneer, Peripheral and others offer third party gear for
installation to use with the iPod.
The features vary depending on the maker, but if buying a new car,
this is an option to using an mp3 player in the car.

X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: Alternative section used was text/plain
Earlier this year 100 more episodes of Burns and Allen became available.
This is suprising but happy news to me. I didn't see or hear talk of them at
FOTR this year. Where did these shows turn up, from what era of the show are
they from, and how can we hear them?

Sorry for the slow reply, I was traveling for the Holiday and am just
getting back into the swing of things. I don't know if Luster Cream
shampoo sponsored other shows, but I do know that they did sponsor OUR
MISS BROOKS.
The incident Charlie is referring to was an Our Miss Brooks recreation
at Cincy-con. It was the first time I was cast in a recreation, and was
lucky enough to score the part of the announcer. At least I thought I
was lucky until I learned I'd also have to sing the jingle. It ended up
being a lot of fun, and my singing didn't turn out too bad in the end.
It wasn't so hot in the beginning, though. I practiced and practiced,
but I still came in flat and had to hunt around for the right note.

Subject: OT: Kids Cowboy Book Series?
Forgive me for going off topic with this one, but I've wondered about
this, for years, and thought the gathered memories here--our nostalgia
gestaltgia, as it were--
;-)
Might help!
In the '70s, at my elementary school, decades after they were first
published, I encountered a series of books, for kids, about a cowboy.
The series may have been from the 1950s--or, more likely, my instincts
tell me, the [removed] As I recall, the lead cowboy may have been based
on a ranch.
These were slim volumes, stories written say, for, roughly, an eight
year [removed]
They also featured that type of one-color wash drawing that was often
used in childrens' books of the time.
I say kids' books, but there was quite a bit more story than in a
picture-book. Think of books roughly in the tall format of a Dr. Seuss
volume, but with about two-to-three times as much verbiage, per page.
And this was a series, that an elementary school, felt comfortable
buying, and then keeping around, for at least a couple of decades.
Again, for say, an 8-11 year old.
Any idea as to the series identity?
Thanks, so much!
