Subject: Hornet quality

I second Martin Grams comments on Radio Spirit's Hornet releases.

The sound quality is amazing. I think it was two boxed sets back (Spies and
Racketeers I believe) that the sound quality was so stunningly good that if I
had not recognized the voices, I would have thought it was a modern recording.

I received the new Lone Ranger/Hornet set yesterday.

I'll confess I'm not a Ranger fan. And while I did have the three Hornets
already - they were really spotty in quality. I loaded the new issues in
iTunes and listened to "Exposed" last night. While I was expecting good audio
quality, I was surprised by inclusion of two "Last and final" commercials for
the Green Hornet ring.

Way cool.

I sincerely hope they will run another multiple episode Hornet boxed set soon!

Subject: Martha Raye
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: from multipart/alternative
X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: Alternative section used was text/plain

I just finished listening to an eps of "The Edgar Bergen/Charlie
McCarthy Show" and the guest
star was Martha Raye. I gathered from the brief interaction between them that
Martha had just
returned from yet another trip to perform for our troops overseas. Several
people I've spoken with
said that she assisted them actively. Was she just a performer or did she
actually hold a rank in
the armed forces? I heard she was involved with the Green Berets and was even
a nurse at some point.
Is this true, or have I been misinformed?

Was she ever recognized by the government for her contributions to the
war effort? Most of the
celebrities I know of traveled with the USO shows and Bob Hope, but some
people have told me that
Martha actually saw some combat during her tours. Is this just a rumor or is
it the truth?

Was she the only celebrity to be recognized (if indeed she was) for
service to the US troops
during WW II?
