SAME TIME, SAME STATION

This might be the strangest line up of shows we've ever presented.

On this week's Same Time, Same Station A little news, and some
Mother's day shows, neither having anything to do with the other.

But May 6, 1937 was the 74th anniversary of the crash of the
Hindenburg. so we will hear a 15 minute program dealing with that
subject. It was heard the day after the crash from 05/07/37 from NBC Blue.

In 1976 PBS Television broadcast "The Good Old Days Of Radio". this
was a 1 hour program hosted by Steve Allen. During the rehearsal for
that program Frank Bresee (excellent Radio Historian) interviewed
several radio performers for KUSC Radio. these interviews were later
heard on Options, a weekly program then heard on National Public Radio.
One of those interviewed was Herbert Morrison. they spoke about the
crash of the Hindenburg, and we'll hear his comments.

Next, we will hear DICK TRACY
from 05/01/45 Episode (0556) The Case Of The Empty Safe. The reason we
are including this episode is that there is a war bulletin at the
beginning of the program announcing that Adolf Hitler is dead.

Following that program we salute the 66th anniversary of Victory In
Europe, (VE) day with the speech informing the nation. The speech was
delivered by President Harry S Truman from 05/08/45.

We begin our Mother's day salute by listening to THE BILL STERN SPORTS
NEWSREEL
show with guest LARAINE DAY" Episode (549) from 05/12/50

  Next, FAMILY THEATER
from 05/06/48 Episode (065) Mother's Halo Was Tight

  And lastly, THE FIRST NIGHTER
starring Barbara Luddy and her guest leading man Willard Waterman
entitled:

Subject: HOW IN THE WORLD DOES HE DO IT?

Walter Gibson created him. J. Randolph Cox studied him. Anthony
Tollin glorified him and now Martin Grams Jr, has provided hungry
SHADOW enthusiasts like myself and scores of others the most complete
and thoroughly researched volume (actualyy several volumes between
the covers of this encyclopediac tome)
In 836 pages we learn , in minute detail the Street and Smith
birth of the Shadow from print to air and back again. We are treated
to book long comparisons of the styles of the actors who portrayed
the Shadow, Margot, Weston,Shreve and others. And we are introduced
to the talents of the major script writers (including my own
favorite, Alonzo Dean Cole)..
Behind the scenes Martin reveals often neglected information
about production, direction, sound, sponsorship. We discover how
programs survive to this day as Mutual and Charles Michealson (my
source for the Witch's Tales scripts) expand the influence of their
product and profit by means of transcriptions.
The detailed episode guide alone, is worth the price of the book
and what we learn about the Shadow in Australia and South America is
quite revealing. If there is a photo ot illustration that Martin
ommited I would be shocked.
If you have not guessed by now,, you can't claim to be a reall
otr fan if this book (OTR Publisher, PO BOX 52, Whiteford MD 21160 /
443-286-6821 [removed],com) is not on your bookshelf''
