X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: from multipart/alternative

It is with great joy that I announce the Columbia Broadcasting System will be
heard once agin in Louisville on a regular basis. As of December 1st, 2006
Clear Channel Station WKJK 10,000 watts omnidirectional daytime at 1080 kc
will clear all CBS Radio News Hourlies 24/7. They will clear the hourly format
broadcast consisting of 3 minutes of news and one minute of commercial. How
did CBS Radio get back into the Louisville market? According to Lyn MacIntosh,
Senior VP at WestwoodOne it was a gift from CC General Manager (Kelley is his
first name) to CBS Radio for allowing the award winning CBS actualities to be
used as a supplement to the local WHAS Radio News. By contractual arrangements
between CC and FOX radio, WHAS must use FOX as their first affiliation.
However, the news people at WHAS really dislike the quality of FOX radio news.
In comes the Columbia network as a white night, becoming the secondary souce
for WHAS news. WHAS was so impressed with the quality of CBS that they offered
to clear CBS on WKJK as gesture not only of gratitude but it made good
business sense. Ironically, CBS Radio has now 2 Louisville stations where
their news can be heard. I have listened to the local WHAS news and they are
using CBS reporters much more often. WKJK has only a .5 rating, but I know
they will gain one more loyal listener - our own Jim Cox. Jim, I do not know
where you live in Louisville, but WKJK goes directional at night, nulling to
the NE to protect CBS owned station WTIC in Hartford and nulls South to
protect CBS owned station KRLD in Dallas. I have been complaining to Westwood
One for years about no CBS in Louisville. I guess it finally paid off
:>)))....Fr. Mike Paraniuk, Pastor of St. Mary Church in Hillsboro, Ohio. Avid
Columbia Network collector and listener to the CBS for 48 years.

Subject: Green Hornet Shows Identification

Hi All,
I wonder if someone can identify these two Green Hornet shows for me.
The start of each has been edited out also the ending credits etc.,

The title that came with the first show is Oliver Perry's Car. It
starts, crooks in a speeding stolen car being followed by another
car. The boss (Mr Coleman) orders the driver to stop the car on a
bridge. One of the occupants, a double-crosser is knocked out with a
sandbag on the order from the boss, the crooks get out of the car,
and the car smashed through the side of the bridge into the river the
driver jumping clear at the last moment.
Further on there's talk of Oliver Perry laying a trap for the Hornet.

The other title as it came to me is The Black Cat Killer. This also
has the start edited out. It starts with the words "The black car
with the Green Hornet slid through the darkened back streets of the
city like a purring ?. It was after midnight and behind the wheel,
the Green Hornet himself expertly manoeuvred the long gleaming car.
Further one the Hornet and Kato enter a museum and are about to open
a mummy case when a black cat appears from behind some packing cases.
When they do open the mummy case they find a body of a man.

Any help would be appreciated.

Subject: New found shows?

Andrew Godfrey asked

Most of all I would like to know if any shows that had no existing
episodes previously available to the public have been discovered in
the last 20 years.

I myself have found about 30 additional showsfrom series such as Mr
DA, The FBI in peace and war, The Whistler, ando so on, in the last
year not listed by the Old Time Radio Researchers.
I trawl the newsgroups. Try these, the main ones,

It's surprising what you can find. The thing is you cannot always
trust the title they are posted under, listen to the show and check.
When I do find new shows I send copies to Jim Beshires at OTTR, the
guys and gals there verify them then add them to the database if they
are correct. They do a great job for OTR.

Subject: "airwaves", jerry chapman, and joe webb

thanks to jim widner for the mention in today's digest. i occasionally have
contact with jerry chapman, who left his native chicagoland for california
many years ago. he is well, married, and has a son. he no longer collects otr
but stays in contact with some otr acquaintances now and then from the 70s.
jerry was a great influence on my collecting and introduced me to many shows
that i would not have otherwise taken the time to notice.

i took an otr hiatus in 1985 because of work, grad school, and starting a
consulting practice. almost 20 years later i find myself collecting again and
actually enjoying it more.

i have found many of the old newsletters i did, airwaves and collectors
corner, and they are being scanned as pdfs and one day will find themselves
in the OTRR library. i also found some other newsletters, the earliest one
being "epilogue," the third issue, produced by a collector named george
jennings. i suspect it was from 1973-ish, so if anyone has any background on
it, it would be appreciated. it looks to have been produced on a desktop
offset printer (usually what people referred to as "a gestetner machine",
common in schools and churches at the time; in comparison to today, even bad
word processing is better than the effort to make that equipment work well).

i could not find any of my old copies of "radio historian" published by some
fans in the milwaukee area. i doubt i have them anymore. if anyone has pdfs
of those, please let me know. i remember an article someone had written with
the mathematical formula that would convert reel counter readings into time
increments. ah, yes, the fun of open reels. mine are all gone, thankfully,
and all of the things that i recorded from discs in the 1976-1980 period are
up on the OTRR hub.

X-Converted-To-Plain-Text: Alternative section used was text/plain

I am trying to find a particular Johnny Dollar show. It is one of the 15
minute - 5 day a week shows. In the one I am looking for Johnny is doing an
investigation in a town which is very suspicious and defensive. It reaches a
point where a number of additional insurance investigators are sent in to
assist him and they pair up to enhance self protection as they contnue to
solve the matter. I thought that it was "The Open Town Matter" but have
listened to it this week and that was not the one. I know I could just listen
to all of the 15 minute shows until finding the one I am looking for but
thought I would use the vast knowledge base of you list folks to save me some
time.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Subject: Awards

I may have asked this question before, but why is it that radio never
had programming awards? Movies have their Oscars, television have
their Emmys, music, or what passes for music today, have their
Grammies, but radio had nothing like that. Yes, I know that radio and
radio programs did get individual awards, the Peabody is one example.
But, no awards for best comedy, best drama, best western, best
daytime drama, or soap operas if you prefer, etc. Is there a reason
for this? Or was it just an oversight.

Subject: Marla Slosberg, RIP

I was just advised by Marla's son, Lee, that she died peacefully in her
sleep Monday evening, November 27th. She had been battling pancreatic
cancer for many months but her doctors were able to control the pain
through medication. Marla had slipped into a comma on Sunday and died
quietly the next night in the company of her relatives and medical
staff.

Her funeral will be 1 PM on Thursday, November 30th at Beth David
Cemetery in Elmont, Long Island, NY. As per her wishes, it will be a
small graveside ceremony there.

Lee wanted to thank the OTR community, and particularly those
affiliated with FOTR, who rendered so much help and support to him and
his mother during this last difficult year. She often expressed her
gratitude for all the well-wishers who were so kind to her during her
struggle with cancer.

Cards of sympathy to her family can be sent to:
