My name is Fabris [removed],38 years [removed]'m studying, and loving
Elvis Presley since I was 11 years old.

Specifically I'm an Elvis researcher expecially on the early [removed]
particularly
like the Louisiana Hayride,Opry,Saturday Night Country Style days,Opry shows
and so I started doing researches on this and trying to meet and interview
as much
people as I could.

Researches who took me in many places in the world and recently at Library
of Congress in Washington to dig through 16" AFRTS discs they have there of
some Hayride Shows and Saturday Night Country Style, but alas! no early Elvis
recordings there .......

Mainly all these researches are in relation to a book/CD project for the
Elvis
fan club network I've been asked to [removed]'s a 3/4 CD 200 pages book about
Elvis stay at SUN records done by Ernst Jorgensen which I'm now helping
detailing the period
from July of 1954 through the end of [removed] is BMG chief at Elvis music
archive.

The book will consist of more than 400 early photos - half of them
previously unpublished. It's not an attempt of once again write the story of
Elvis Presley, but more a collection of information, photos, memorabilia and
stories shared by fans who
where there at the time. The book will not deal in gossip or other
unpleasant material
it's all about the innocence of the time and the impact of Elvis'music.

We are trying to document every single show Elvis did, and we have
come fairly close. So I'm looking for photos, recordings from Louisiana
Hayride
or Opry,or any live radio gig or interview .... ANYTHING IS WELCOME
FROM THE 50s!!

And I'm doing researches on 16" AFRTS discs produced on Saturday
Night Country Style (Ref END 536) and Hayride (Ref END 658).We know for
sure many were produced (more than 969 on Hayride) but I'd like to know if
you've
lists of songs or broadcasts,if you've tapes or metal stampers in your
[removed] is welcome.

Any 'old' DJ out there working for AFN radios at the time, working to produce
discs, anyone with infos or tapes or discs (.....).WE DON'T WANT TO KNOW
WHERE YOU GET THOSE BUT ONLY COPIES TO SHARE WITH THE ELVIS FANS AND THE
[removed]
AND WE'RE READY TO PAY FOR THIS OF [removed]

As told I located some at the Library of Congress and listened to them but
no Elvis songs were on [removed]

Of course I took all of matrix numbers of the discs I heard and
made also photographs so I could send them to you if you wish just to take a
look.

I have some lists of bases where AFRTS Los Angeles sent the discs but I'd
really appreciate your help.

As told another interesting info would be to have connections to DJ working
in those radios overseas or in the Navy who got also those [removed]

Or maybe archivists working in the bases like Mrs Gisela Breitkopf (she died
recently alas!)
in [removed]

Have you early Elvis unreleased material in your archives ?
Could we study an agreement to use them?

Have you ever come across people owning early Elvis gigs recordings or
photos?

I have a complete list of all dates when Elvis [removed] I could
send you a complete sketch after your answer.

Hope to hear from you soon and that this is not too much of an
intrusion.

Pls answer me on my home e-mail plcpf@[removed]

Sincerely yours

Fabris [removed] Elvis researcher

Subject: NBC Red and Blue

Many thanks to everyone who has suggested books that contain information
about NBC. I've ordered a couple but it's such a shame that there aren't any
devoted exclusively to a detailed history of the network. Until there is
such a book, I'll continue to ask about the things I'm most curious about
here if that's OK.

One question I have concerns the supplemental stations, that could be fed
either a Red or Blue network programme. What I would like to know is what
happened to these stations after the Blue Network became a separate company
from NBC but still within RCA. Were these stations divided up between the
two networks, or did they all become Red network stations? The later would
have left NBC with a bigger network than the Blue, but I suppose would also
have made the Blue Network less attractive to many potential buyers.

A third possibility could be that the stations were given a choice at this
stage whether to join the Red on a permanent basis or go with the Blue and
eventually become a competitor of NBC.

Anybody know what really happened?

Many thanks

Steve

Subject: The Magnificent Montague

I was pleased to see someone mention "The Magnificent Montague" this past
week. I have never seen that show discussed anywhere else, nor are episodes
featured on any of the OTR collections on cassette and CD that are available
at the local library. I heard maybe a dozen episodes on the Armed Forces
Network out of Frankfurt around 1970 (not sure when it dates from, but I'd
guess the mid to late 1950s?), and found the show immensely enjoyable.

For those unfamiliar with it, Monty Wooley played an aging Shakespearean
stage actor who has been forced by the times to do a radio show called "Uncle
Goodheart" -- a schmaltzy, advice-giving character who has tons of loyal fans
-- that he can't help despising. Montague is a natural grouch forced to
pretend to be a warm, loving, avuncular personage because his radio show is a
hit. Of course he longs for the good old days on the boards.

The other regulars on the show were his wife, a pleasant and sincere sort,
and Agnes the maid, a sharp-tongued gal who takes none of his guff. At the
station, Montague often showers sarcastic barbs (usually misread and
therefore harmless) on his director, a goofy-voiced shlemiel named Mr.
Zinsser, I think -- and the more blustery sponsor whose name escapes me.

It was a terrific show, and given Wooley's performance on it, and his triumph
in the movie of "The Man Who Came to Dinner," I'm surprised that he was not
better known, at least as far as I've seen.
