Subject: Truman Bradley on Friday
Just dropping a friendly note that I'll be a guest on Neal Ellis and Ken
Stockinger's LIVE SHOW on the evening of Friday, September 9. The two
subjects of the night are TRUMAN BRADLEY. Truman Bradley, for those who keep
thinking the man is familiar, was the commercial pitchman for the Roma Wines
commercials on SUSPENSE, and the voice you hear on GEORGE BURNS AND GRACIE
ALLEN and JACK ARMSTRONG, THE ALL-AMERICAN BOY (among others). If you did not
know he invested his radio salary on a cosmetics firm, or that he had
multiple wives, you're in for a treat when you discover the behind-the-scenes
biography about Bradley. We'll talk about SCIENCE FICTION THEATRE, the
television program he hosted, and Fred Ziv, who syndicated the program (as
well as THE CISCO KID and BOSTON BLACKIE.)
We will talk briefly about the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention (pre-paid
attendance is twice of last year's!) which is held Sept. 22 to 24, including
the selection of radio re-enactments of "lost" episodes (INNER SANCTUM this
year) and play the audio from Joel Blumberg's interview with actress Marsha
Hunt, from last year's event. Remember, Marsha Hunt was Blanche Bickerson for
a time when Frances Langford was unavailable, so you'll hear a fascinating
interview about her screen and radio career!

Maybe I missed it in the digest, but didn't see any mention of the
passing of Stetson Kennedy who died about a week ago. Kennedy was known
as a man who fought racism by going inside the Ku Klux Klan and then
revealing some of their secrets of the Klan's rituals which was parodied
in the the radio Superman episode series "The Clan of the Fiery Cross."

Subject: Shadow movie
Recently ran across The Invisible Avenger on Retrovision. It was
made in 1958 (for about $[removed] I think). Some may like it, others
won't, like most films made from radio shows. There's no Margo Lane, as
in the pulps, but there is a teacher of Oriental mysticism who is
Cranston's mentor and close friend.
The Shadow is able to make himself disappear and cast a shadow on a
wall, etc.
It's about an hour long and appears to be have been more of a failed
pilot for a Shadow tv show. (There was another in the early '50s that
was a failed pilot that is floating around the net as well, for forget
the name, much less the url.)
