Subject: WXYZ Corrections
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to bring up two corrections to the recent "Those Were The
Days" postings. Before I do that, however, let me be very clear on one
very important [removed] is by no means a criticism of Joe Mackey
and the fine work he does. Joe, I thank you so much for taking the time
and effort to put the "Days" postings together. I always enjoy reading
them, and you do a great job putting them together. Joe is not
responsible for any errors in content; he is getting this information
off the internet. And I for one am very appreciative of his time and efforts.
Just trying to set the record straight here.
The Lone Ranger actually did not premiere on [removed],1933. Mr. WXYZ
himself, Terry Salomonson, discovered this while doing research on "The
Lone Ranger". It actually premiered on Jan. 31,1933. I'm sorta glad that the
date was the 31st; I just never liked the fact that the Masked Man
premiered on the same day that Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of
Germany. Also (and this mistake was recently in an AP story about Disney's
upcoming Lone Ranger movie), the Lone Ranger (as originally created) did not
have a first name. Martin Grams researched this a few years back
and found that giving the Ranger the first name of John came about during the
filming of "The Legend of the Lone Ranger" in 1981.
Speaking
of the Disney Lone Ranger movie currently in production, I've seen
sketches for the werewolves that are scheduled to appear in the story. I
hear that a lot of the movie will involve Tonto and Native American
mysticism/supernatural powers. This could make last year's "Green
Hornet" movie look like "Citizen Kane".
