Greetings! I'm looking for any information regarding the series, 'Mission
Accomplished.' I tried looking in the usual places for the information, but
alas, no information at all. I only have one program of this series titled,
'The Keys To Davy Jones Locker.' The host is William Conrad, and is dated
11/17/49.
Thanks

Subject: My new website

Hi all,

Here is the link to my new site:

[removed]

It is not too spectacular, but it is a start. I
created it for a class I just had and am able to leave
it up on the server until I graduate (which means it
will be up for a LONG time - ha ha) and am planning to
expand it as time goes on.

There is a show to download each week. If anyone has
suggestions for shows I should post, don't hesitate to
ask.

If there is an image on the site that I grabbed from
another site and the owner wants it taken down, just
send a polite email and it will be pulled immediately.
Many old radio images that I have are from sites from
all over and do not want to infringe on anyone's
rights.

There is a registration page. Sometimes it works and
sometimes it doesn't. If you want a guarantee that
you will be registered for updates, the link to my
email is on that page as well.

Well, I have gone on enough for now. Enjoy!

PS: I hope that I am not breaking any rules about
posting the link to my site. It is OTR related and I
wanted to share it.

Kurt Yount asked how long did Command Performance go on. I have a MP3 with
many of these shows and the latest show date on this CD is October l8, l949.
After listening to it I find that it does not state if this was the last
broadcast.

What was the common thread between all of these shows.
"The Wonder Show"
"Renfrew of the Mounties"
"Sky Blazers"
"Pretty Kitty Kelly"
They were all sponsored by Wonder Bread.
Still looking to buy or trade for any of these shows,

Subject: Jack Benny-Mel Blanc "Si, Si, Sue" routine

Does anyone know of the existence of the above routine either on tape or
video? For years I have sought a copy of what to me was one of the most
brilliant yet simplest of all comedy routines. In a retrospect after the
death
of Jack Benny, Mel Blanc in an interview, stated that Jack Benny, whether on
Radio or TV, never was able to finish the routine completely as rehearsed
because he invariably broke up before the finish. A great feeling of
indebtedness on my part if anyone out there can help me. Thanks much.

Subject: Godfrey and Huck Hound?

This is a tad off subject, but there is a connection. Read on.

I've recently seen a claim that Arthur Godfrey was "the inspiration for the
cartoon character Huck Hound". This is new to me.

I've heard of the character, but that's all. If there's anyone out there
who knows about Huck Hound, please write me with background, dating, and if
you've also heard this claim! If I can learn who the cartoonist was/is,
perhaps I can contact the cartoonist and learn more there as well.

Many thanks. Lee Munsick That Godfrey Guy leemunsick@[removed]

Subject: Texaco Ends Met Opera Sponsorship

I was saddened to read just now that Texaco has decided to terminate its
historic sponsorship of the New York Metropolitan Opera radio broadcasts
after the 2003-2004 season. The move was attributed to cost cutting by
the oil company and the Met stated that it is in the process of seeking
new sponsors. Texaco began sponsoring the Met broadcasts in 1931 and
became sole sponsor in 1940. The report I saw did not disclose how much
funding is required but, given the size of Texaco, I wonder how much
money was really in involved. A comparative drop in the bucket I would
suspect.

This is a sad day for radio and for classical music. It will be
interesting to see what companies, if any, step up to the plate.

Subject: Memorable Old Time Radio Shows

I enjoy the memories of the old time radio shows but I would like to
recall some of my favorites that I have not seen mentioned here. One was
Harry Horlick and his A & P Gypsies. Phillips Carlin was one of the
announcers. I knew Phil in later years when he was an agency account
executive. We listeners could picture the group sitting around a campfire
somwwhere in Europe. Then there was the Cliquot Club Eskimos. Harry Reser
was the conductor of his banjo orchestra broadcasting from their igloo in
Nome, Alaska, via short wave or so we imagined. Then there was the Sunday
afternoon Trianon-Aragon hour originating live from those two ballrooms
in Chicago. Jan Garbo and Wayne King played waltz music.

On Saturday evening we had the the Lucky Strike dance orchestra conducted
by B. A. Rolfe. They played dance music with a martial beat. .New Years
Eve was a great night with the networks switching to name dance band
remotes to usher in the new year from each time zone. Much more exciting
than the present highly contrived studio programs. From eleven to one
o'clock AM every evening the networks broadcast name dance orchestras
from nightspots across the country. Local stations also had there own
late night dance band remotes. There were times when a band would be
called in mid afternoon to broadcast from an empty ballroom to fill an
empty spot in the station's schedule. Having a "wire" was an asset for
ballrooms and nightclubs in hiring bands, as the leaders leaders enjoyed
the publicity it promoted for his organization. If one was driving on the
road late at night these remote broadcasts were great company.
