The actor who played the Henry Aldrich role in those early movies ... (was)
Jimmy Lydon ... (who) has been a fixture at many recent OTR conventions
... his warm personality, acting talents, and ever fascinating stories
about
his
experiences in show business are worth the price of admission
Almost sounds like a description of ol' Smilin' Hal hisself!
(Though he might even agree that NO ONE bests Jimmy in the
Raconteur dept.!)

The original "Chiss sweese" flub was made on the Jack Benny show of
October 27, 1946. Jokes about it continued the next week and on. Edward G.
Robinson had a line about "chiss sweese" on the November 24 show. You can go
as far ahead as May 8, 1949 to hear Benny make a crack about "chiss sweese."
I have this information at my fingertips because I've just finished
writing a chapter about the bloopers on the Benny show for an upcoming book
by BearManorMedia.

ok, i'm asking this more as amusement factor than anything else, but
my husband and i cant help wondering, was there ever a time that
lamont got tired of margot screeching at the top of her lungs every
time she a) saw something in the road b)heard a wierd sound c) saw a
minor threat to their walk down the street? and what about all those
times he told her to "wait outside til your called" and she came
banging on doors while he was inside as the Shadow with the bad guys,
and she's shouting "LAMONT ARE YOU OK?" how did he keep his secret
identity so long (other than the fact that he took justice into his
own hands sometimes of the bad guys obligingly killed themselves or
were shot by someone else). My husband cant help laughing every
time we listen t a show and she starts her screeching because
somebody is crossing the [removed] "lamont LOOK

In today's Radio Digest, Norm Schickedanz asked for
the date of the Jack Benny Program where Mary messed
up the name of a Swiss cheese sandwich. According to
Jerry Haendiges radio log, this program was dated Oct
27, 1946.
And, if anyone asks the date of Don Wilson's "Drear
Poosen" booboo, my collection has it dated Jan 8,
1950.

Dixon Hayes commented about "That Man Himself" Arthur Godfrey:
***"That Godfrey Guy" Lee Munsick once told me that the Arthur Godfrey line
"How-are-ya, how-are-ya, how-are-ya?" was something greatly exaggerated by
mimics of the day much like the scenario where Ed Sullivan impressionist Will
Jordan was the one who came up with "...rilly big shew."***
Lee is of course the expert, but I once heard Arthur open his CBS show
that way, obviously mimicing the line while poking a little fun at
himself. I believe that it also was meant to refer to Arthur's ukelele
playing during the Haleloke era: "Hawai-ya, [removed]"

Are the any recordings extant of the original Ed Morrow series "This I
Believe" (ca. 1951-55)?
I am particularly interested in one done by Robert A. Heinlein.
Thanks,
Dick Backus

Subject: Re: Captain Z-ro
In the mid 1950's, there was a syndicated TV show called Captain
Z-ro. It was produced in San Francisco, California. In the last
1960's, I lived in the bay area and worked for the company that
produced that show. One of the people connected with the program had
given me a print of the program to watch and I was always interested
in the show.
Recently I had the opportunity to contact the star, writer and
producer of the program and work out a distribution agreement. We
have created a web site that will hold everything you ever wanted to
know about Captain Z-ro. The building of the site is just starting,
so there will be more information posted over the weeks and months to
come. Please take a look. [removed]

I've been trying to decide how to put my thoughts into words ever
since this nonsense about The Lone Ranger being a bad guy started ...
you have done a very eloquent job of it ....
I never said the Lone Ranger was a bad guy, just that he was a
deserter from the Texas Rangers.
