Subject: Vince Turdo
My daughter, a dialysis nurse in Kingman, Az, has run across a man named
Vince Turdo who claims to be an old radio performer on "many network" shows
in the 30's-40's. He was a radio singer and speaks of appearing on Lux many
times but I doubt that it was Lux. But perhaps a similar film-variety series
[removed] Gulf Screen Guild for example. I've not found any mention of him in the
usual references. The name could be Turado or Trudo. She would love to find
an example of his radio work to present to him. Feel free to contact off
line.

Next, we listen to Paul Frees, in a one man show called:
STUDIO X
The Player ep02 Frozen Justice.
After our look at the Old Radio calendar, we'll hear our actor of the
month for May.
Herb Ellis began his radio work in San Francisco. We'll hear a spelling
game show done from KGO San Francisco with Herb Ellis as the announcer.
THE GOOD WORD
Second show in series.
After our look at the radio calendar, we'll hear an early
GRAND HOTEL

CLASSICS & CURIOS
"Echoes of Songs and Laughter"
Episode 26
Big Band Night with Teenager Benny Goodman
Our first big band show features Isham Jones, Ted Lewis, and the first
band Benny Goodman fronted called Benny Goodman's Boys. Benny was 18,
and among musicians in his band were Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and Ben
Pollack. Jones was known for his polished and rich sounds, and Lewis
early in his career was considered a jazz pioneer. Some of the tunes
include "A Jazz Holiday," "Dip Your Brush in Sunshine,"Muskrat
Scramble," "Swingin' Down the Lane," a pre-lyric "Star Dust," and "I'll
See You in My Dreams." Making a special curio appearance will be the
"Happiness Boys" with a 1925 recording of "That Certain Party."
Eddie Hubbard's Big Band Remote Tour
Here's one of legendary DJ Eddie Hubbard's many great shows: a "Tour" of
big band radio remotes. We'll hear a portion of Benny Goodman's
triumphant 1938 classic concert from Carnegie Hall. To make things even
more special we'll hear a collector segment of a Harry James remote from
Ocean Park's Casino Gardens. Harry broke his leg playing baseball so
Tommy Dorsey answered the call and filled in for him on Harry's radio
broadcast, leading the band on tunes like "Sweet and Lovely." Eddie's
brief "Tour" of remotes also includes Louis Prima, Artie Shaw, and Chuck
Foster with such songs as "O, You Beautiful Gal" and "Go Fly a Kite."
Peggy Lee is an Eddie "extra added attraction," along with the
Carpenters who close Eddie's show with "Top of the World." We hear
Eddie's "Tour" just as he did it for his (undated) ABC radio show and
just as Jerry Haendiges transferred it for us from Eddie's original
studio tape.

Subject: What's the Name of that Song?
I sent a question about this quiz show; it was not answered, and it didn't
appear anyplace, so I guess I was wrong in directing it to the Webmaster. I
hope I have chosen the right place this time. Anyway, I would appreciate any
information I can obtain about the show, as it was one of my favorites. I ask
here because I have never been able to find any reference to it despite
repeated Internet searches. I can't pinpoint when it was broadcast, but it
had to have been in the early 50s. Finding any reference to the show seems to
be almost impossible, but I'm going to make an even more difficult request:
Are there any remaining recordings? If so, where can they be found?
Sincerely,
Warren Jones
