Subject: THE FIRST NYOTR SUCESS

Dear OTR Lovers:
Well now, cast aside all worries and woes about the continuity of OTR
Conventions at Newark because I've got news and it's all [removed]
The first annual NYOTR Convention held at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Newark
was a resounding success, so those of you who missed it will take heart
that it most definitely will return next year with the very few bugs worked
out and a growing cast of radio stars and reenactments and those of you who
were there witnessed the creation of a new and burgeoning success.

I was humbled and rather bowled off my feet Saturday evening to be the
recipient of a rather hefty and Oscar-like 'Acting' award as well as joining
the other recipients Katie Summers for her and her dad Charlie's new show
"Summers Time" and newcomer Curtis Cook [removed] me having a dream come true
by playing Edgar Bergen while working with Charlie and Mortimer who were
with us on stage as well as the appearance of Marilyn Monroe in the episode
where Charlie gets married to Marilyn, directed by Gary Yoggy with Bart
Curtis running the mic dept and sound effects single handedly.

The great radio actors Simon Jones, Larry Conroy and Craig Wichman
brought the episode to life with me but the real delight was Erika Smith who
is a
ringer for Marilyn.
When I introduced her in the script and she walked into the room in a
stunning outfit the place went crazy! Wolf whistles and cheers made her
performance a hit and her singing "I Wanna Make Love to You" to Arthur
Anderson
on stage was a musical and comedic highlight nobody will forget.
There's video somewhere I'm sure.

It was a great honor for me to be involved in a magnificent afternoon and
evening at the old stomping ground and we have Jill & Marcus and their team
to thank for the daunting task of organizing and realizing this event that
is dear to many of us and of great interest to many more.

Also to my delight was the fact that ten 6 disc packages of my first
production as a reader of the pulp fiction tales of the evil genius "Dr Yen
Sin"
produced by Tom Brown of [removed] were autographed and sold out
in less than half an hour!
Guess I'll be doing more and its a new thrill for me.
Now I don't have to go on the 'set' to perform and that'll make it easier
on my face not to have all that make-up to perform as an 'evil genius' AND
the [removed]

Stay tuned, more will be revealed as we wend our way into 2013 and the
growing of NYOTR.
Thanks to everybody involved for a great job well done.

G'night everybody!!!

Subject: Jack Benny Speaks of Fred Allen

David VanNostrand asked if anyone could identify the episode of the Jack
Benny Show in which Jack talked about the death of his friend Fred Allen?

I suspect the episode was actually a special radio broadcast usually
distributed as "A Tribute to Fred Allen." My copy has an air date of
March 18, 1968. In that special broadcast, Jack spoke fondly of his
friend and their contrived feud.

Subject: Re: Jack Benny and Fred Allen's Death

Can anyone out there tell me the episode of the Jack Benny Show that has Jack
talking about the death of his friend Fred Allen?

IS there such a show? Fred died in March, 1956, and Benny's show on radio
ended in May, 1955, according Haendiges' log. And according to the same
source, repeats of Benny didn't begin until October of '56. (Hmm, so what
happened in the intervening year on Sunday evenings at 7?)

I'll be interested to know what the answer to this question is.

1949 named Renee? I know he had a girlfriend prior to 1947 named Betty.
