Subject: Photo Still Identification

Anyone have photos of old-time radio stars and cannot identify the cast in
the photo? Can't name the movie they were photographed for? Here's the
solution!

MOVIE STUDIO PRODUCTION CODE LOG
Features 25,000 Production Codes
Breakdown of the Production Process
Spiral Bound and Lays Flat for Easy Use
How to Use Production Logs

The book is $40 regular price but I picked up a flyer at the recent Cinevent
convention that offers a special Cinevent price, $30, special price thru June
15. Five dollar postage.

Ed Poole
Po Box 3181
Harvey, LA 70059-3181

This means you can use this book to identify the movie using the numbers
scratched on the bottom of the photos. If you have a photo of Jack Benny from
a movie but the publicity still isn't clarified and no one knows truly what
movie that still is for, this book should help.

Passing on the info for what it's worth.

The June issue of "Radio Recall," celebrating the 25th anniversary of

If Gracie Allen had married comedian Fred Allen instead of George

Subject: 1937 Radio Question

I just listened to a radio broadcast from the summer of 1937 and a crime
fighter actually arranged for a wire tap on the phone lines for the suspected
criminals to learn their activities. I know today the police cannot post a
tap on a phone line without a warrant but I was wondering what the police
procedures were in the summer of 1937. Was that illegal at that time?

Subject: Benny violin surrogates

Joe Postove asked:
During the radio run of Jack Benny, was it Jack actually playing the
violin
when called for in the script, or was it a band member?

Certainly sometimes Jack played the violin himself, as in the episode where
he played "The Bee". I also thought that Jack probably always played his
own violin, until I got an E-mail a couple years ago from the nephew of Hy
Shertzer, violinist in the Benny Goodman Orchestra, saying that he subbed
for Jack's violin playing when the Goodman Orchestra appeared on Jack's
program.
