Subject: Jack Armstrong, the All-American Boy

Every year I make the same plea, hoping someone out there will be able to
steer me in the right direction. Since there's always new people who
subscribed to the OTR Digest since last year, hopefully I'll strike lucky and
someone will know the answer to my question. For everyone else, it's a story
they'll find shocking, disturbing or amusing.

A few years ago someone posted more than 12 years worth of JACK ARMSTRONG,
THE ALL-AMERICAN BOY radio scripts, bound in volumes, up on eBay. I learned
about the auction way too late. End result was someone bought the scripts. I
later found out who and I contacted them, offering to pay them (in advance)
the entire amount they paid to buy the scripts, if I could borrow them
temporarily to compile an episode guide. I have files and files of
information about the series, but without access to the scripts, the material
I have has little value for a book about JACK ARMSTRONG. The owner told me he
was not interested - they were only interested in reading the scripts and
collecting them. I respected their answer and left it at that.

A year or two later I contacted the same owner (I'm not mentioning his name
because he's a known person in this hobby) and made the same offer. This time
they claimed they sold the scripts to someone else. I asked if I could
contact the new owners so I could make the same offer. After all, the scripts
were probably sold for four-digit figures and who wouldn't want that
reimbursed? This time they told me they saw no reason why anyone would want
an episode guide, and they felt certain the new owners would have the same
opinion. I told the former owner that if the new owners planned to do a book
with the scripts, I'd like to then mail what I have regarding the series to
them, to ensure a good book is done on the subject and asked if he knew
whether or not they planned to do a book. He didn't reply to my e-mail.

Since then I have not been able to trace the scripts. I've spent hundreds of
dollars on classified ads in an effort to find out who out there has the
bound volumes of JACK AMRSTRONG scripts. Just this afternoon someone reminded
me about this so I'm asking the following question: Anyone on the Digest have
a clue or know who has the scripts? Contact me off-list if you know.

[removed] There's a moral to this story -- the preservation of old time radio goes
beyond remastering recordings. it includes scanning scripts, inter-office
memos, backing up those scans, and
documentation in the form of magazine articles and books. And sadly, there
are individuals out there who will
hamper preservation for reasons that don't involve bragging rights or money.
