Subject: #OldRadio IRC Chat this Thursday Night!
A weekly [removed]
For the best in OTR Chat, join IRC (Internet Relay Chat), StarLink-IRC
Network, the channel name is #OldRadio. We meet Thursdays at 8 PM Eastern
and go on, and on! The oldest OTR Chat Channel, it has been in existence
over nine years, same time, same channel! Started by Lois Culver, widow
of actor Howard Culver, this is the place to be on Thursday night for
real-time OTR talk!
Our "regulars" include OTR actors, soundmen, collectors, listeners, and
others interested in enjoying OTR from points all over the world. Discussions
range from favorite shows to almost anything else under the sun (sometimes
it's hard for us to stay on-topic)...but even if it isn't always focused,
it's always a good time!
For more info, contact charlie@[removed]. We hope to see you there, this
week and every week!

Martin, the first sponsor in your listing obviously refers to the Salerno-Megowan biscuit company. That Chicago baker made delicious Salerno butter cookies back then - yummy.

What can anyone tell me about an OTR series called "Rogues Gallery"?
I've
only just heard about it. It sounds like it might be a detective series. Who
starred
in it and was it very popular? General information, specific facts, anything
at all
would be helpful.

[ADMINISTRIVIA: I'm a little surprised Rogue's Gallery isn't better-known; as
another of the Dick Powell detective series, I'd think everyone in the hobby
would have heard one or two at least. To rectify this, I've posted an episode
from October 25, 1945 to the blog's podcast at [removed] -
you can listen using the on-line player or download the show to your
favorite portable MP3 player. And if you subscribe to the podcast's RSS feed
with a podcast client (Juice, or even the bloated iTunes) you'll
automatically receive these podcasts as they are made available.
So you know, I didn't encode this show (I downloaded it from USENET a long
long time ago), so it may not be up to my usual standards. But it _is_
listenable and enjoyable, so [removed] and enjoy. --cfs3]

2. Do you use OTR as your sleeping aid? I have a pillow speaker under my
pillow, and an MP3 player that lets me play one
show and then it will turn itself off.
My problem is that I'm usually asleep after about five minutes.
So I have hundreds of shows that I've heard the first five minutes!
I have been reading the OTR DIGEST For 3 or more years and I get the
feeling that many collector of OTR have lot of radio show that they have
never heard
. I have about 9,000 thousand show on cassette tapes and I have heard
every radio about two or 3 time and some more than that. I never bought
any OTR. I recorded off radio and copied shows from friends
For 15 years my wife and I drove to Florida from McHenry, ILL. Took
about 500 cassettes in the car and listened for 1440 miles in 2 1/2 day.
When traveled by air, I brought a small player and some cassettes on
long flights
Need less to say, I love OTR
