Subject: Voice Over Talent
Gary Dixon brought up a great subject as I am sure lots of the OTR announcers
worked in this field following the demise of network radio. I wish someone
would list this for future generations on a web site.
I do remember hearing Fred Foy working for ABC TV and radio during the 60s. I
seem to remember him introducing soap operas during the afternoon, on a few
of those occaisions when I skipped school. He also did trailer voice over dubs
for MGM. He also did advertising for MGM during the 60s. I have a radio disk
of commericals from the late 60s reissue of Gone With The Wind, with Fred
uttering stirring words like, "in the grandeur of Cinemascope and Stereophonic
sound". his style of delivery just added grandeur to the commerical itself.
Also William Conrad (of Gunsmoke, Cannon) was the narrator on Rocky &
Bullwinkle and did many (or so I'm told) voiceovers in the early days of
television.

Subject: Halls of Ivy Theme
I had a request via my website as to whether the theme song for "The Halls
of Ivy" was ever released, and if so available, as a single. Any ideas out
there?

Subject: End of TV Golden Age
I think the day the so-called Golden Age of Television
died was probably the end of the quiz show scandals.
Artistic decisions handled by ad agencies were then
handled by network hacks with very little sense of
where the public was in terms of taste. This led to a
great blandness of fare during the 60's which would
not be broken until CBS dumped most of their
"rural-leaning" programming in favor of edgier fare
like "All in the Family."

Subject: Mary Livingston
I noted the birthday of Mary yesterday. I wonder if what I read many
years ago was [removed] Jack made arrangements for roses to be
delivered to Mary every day after he passed away. I always considered
this a wonderful gift of love.
Great demonstration of fidelity. ~Ralph of San Angelo

Subject: Soviet WWII era radio drama scripts
I may be getting acccess to some Soviet WWII era radio drama scripts in late
spring--for which I will probably have to make some payment to an archivist
in Moscow. If anyone is interested in chipping in, I may be thus able to get
more than just one or [removed] off line
I will be doing the translations into English

Subject: Cherry-picking radio offerings ny affiliates
I'm not sure about radio, but I know if a VHF network
affiliate did not want to carry a network program,
usually the independent UHF station
carried it (they usually did not have much programming
available to them anyway and some signed on in the
afternoon or as early as 12 noon). This would have
been about 1965 or so.
